Discussing the Development and External Validation of AI Model for Identifying Radiology Reports Containing Recommendations for Additional Imaging
Full article: https://www.ajronline.org/doi/abs/10.2214/AJR.23.29120 With the exponential rise of AI, and with radiology being at the forefront of this revolution, this article breaks the model by taking a unique approach in performing experimental and validation studies using natural language processing modules and focusing on recommendations for additional imaging alone. Aruj Chawla, DO discusses a new study that details the utility and limitations of current applications.

Complete Neurovascular Imaging After Transient Ischemic Attack May Lead To Subsequent Stroke Prevention
Full article: https://www.ajronline.org/doi/10.2214/AJR.23.29352 Transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) are very common in the United States, and prompt diagnosis of TIAs is important as they are associated with an increased risk of subsequent stroke. Jesi Kim, MD provides a discussion and critical analysis of an important article that demonstrates increased odds of subsequent stroke in patients who had incomplete neurovascular imaging after an emergency department encounter for TIA.

All Eyes on the Kidney: Predicting the Risk of Contrast-Associated Kidney Injury for Patients With Cancer
Full article: https://www.ajronline.org/doi/abs/10.2214/AJR.23.29139 Most patients with cancer will undergo multiple contrast-enhanced CT examinations in the diagnosis and treatment on malignancy, raising concern for contrast-associated renal injury for often medically complex patients. Juliet Alla, MD discusses an article that seeks to develop and validate a model to predict the risk of contrast-associated acute kidney injury in patients with cancer. We discuss the implications kidney injury risk stratification for the imaging care of patients with cancer.

Is Mucinous Degeneration on MRI After Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy a Good Predictor of Response?
Full article: https://www.ajronline.org/doi/abs/10.2214/AJR.23.29002 Mohanned Alnammi, MD discusses a study that assessed the frequency of mucinous degeneration following neoadjuvant therapy and to compare outcomes among patients with nonmucinous, mucinous tumors, and those with mucinous degeneration on MRI. It revealed that mucinous degeneration is relatively uncommon and did not have a clear association with cancer recurrence or patient survival. The study emphasized the limitations of MRI in differentiating between cellular and acellular mucin and indicated a need for more advanced imaging techniques.

Safety of Continuing Antithrombotic Therapy for Breast Biopsies
Full article: https://www.ajronline.org/doi/abs/10.2214/AJR.23.29164 Stephany Mazur, MD summarizes findings from a recent article demonstrating no significant increase in image apparent hematoma, palpable hematoma, or need for post-biopsy bleeding-related intervention for patient on anti-thrombotic therapy as compared to those not on therapy. Only breast bruising was seen more frequently in patients on antithrombotic therapy as compared to those not on therapy.

Neuroradiology Diagnostic Errors: Major Associations
Full article: https://www.ajronline.org/doi/abs/10.2214/AJR.22.28925 Eymen Ucisik, MD presents a recently published AJR article exploring the possible risk factors for diagnostic errors by attending neuroradiologists in a single large academic center. These findings should be considered when designing workflow-related interventions to reduce imaging interpretation errors.

Burnout in Radiology: Addressing Moral Distress
Full article: https://www.ajronline.org/doi/abs/10.2214/AJR.22.28968 Moral distress may cause burnout. Abdul Khan, MD, discusses a recently published AJR article in which investigators evaluate the prevalence of moral distress and evaluate for causes of moral distress as well as potential solutions for moral distress.

The Role of 18F-Fluoroestradiol PET/CT for Invasive Lobular Carcinoma
Full article: https://www.ajronline.org/doi/abs/10.2214/AJR.22.28809 In this podcast, Mostafa Alabousi, MD discusses a prospective pilot study by Dr. Covington et al. which assessed the performance of FES PET/CT in comparison to standard-of-care evaluation and FDG PET/CT in individuals with invasive lobular breast carcinoma.

Association of Unexplained Distal Pancreatitis with Cancer Diagnosis
Full article: https://www.ajronline.org/doi/abs/10.2214/AJR.23.28999 Wenhui Zhou, MD, PhD reviews a recent AJR article which described a unique association of unexplained acute distal pancreatitis with subsequent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Awareness of this imaging finding may facilitate upfront endoscopic ultrasound sampling for early detection of pancreatic cancer.

Following COVID-19 Booster Vaccine Resolves Quicker Than After the Initial Vaccine Series
Full article: https://www.ajronline.org/doi/abs/10.2214/AJR.22.28970 Leo Jia, MD discusses a new study that finds the time to resolution after a booster dose supports the current recommendation for follow up of at least 12 weeks for suspected vaccine-related lymphadenopathy.
