TMHS 094: Sugar Addiction, Estrogen Dominance, And The Hormone Reset Diet - With Dr. Sara Gottfried

A statement that Dr. Sara Gottfried made at the end of this episode sent powerful chills right down my spine. She spoke to the powerful truth about a women's work on this planet, and how important it is to get your body in balance. When you hear this statement, you will know it. Leading up to that, we have one of the most valuable shows yet, with tips and insights about estrogen dominance (in men and women), sugar addiction, and how your gut microbiome is determining whether you are fit or fat. Dr. Gottfried is a Harvard and MIT trained physician who really knows her stuff. She diligently scoured through nearly one thousand research papers to create The Hormone Reset Diet so that people can take what works and discard the rest. She concentrates everything down into a way that makes sense. It's easy, doable, and (most importantly) it's backed by hardcore science. She's not tossing out ideas that may or may not work. She's here to share with you strategies that are proven to be effective. All you need to do is listen in, apply some of the things you learn, and see the results for yourself. In this episode you'll discover: Why so many people who focus on calories struggle to lose weight. What the 7 hormones of metabolism are. Why reseting estrogen is an important first step for both women AND men. How estrogen dominance can lead to unwanted deposits of fat on your body. Why conventionally raised beef is incredibly problematic for your health. How dietary fiber helps eliminate estrogen from your system (this is critical!). What your estrobolome is and how it shapes your health. Why compartmentalizing your health is a huge problem. Simple tips you can use to move your body more throughout the day. What some of the underlying causes of sugar addiction are. Why sugar substitutes may be even worse for you than sugar itself. THMS 091: Conquering Diabesity - Natural Solutions For Diabetes And The Obesity Epidemic

A new term has been coined to demonstrate the parallel line between diabetes and obesity. Diabesity is the realization that diabetes and obesity go together like peanut butter and jelly, like spaghetti and meatballs, or like Doritos and chili cheese dogs (if you grew up like I did). The real underlying issue is that obesity and being dangerously overweight has become a societal norm. You will be shocked and a little disturbed when you find out what the statistics are today. But, more so, you're going to be driven like never before to not have your name listed in the ranks of people who are stricken with diabesity. This condition has become a societal norm because, as Dr. Francine Kaufman says, "Our ancient genes and our modern environment have collided." You can not go more than a couple miles in this country and not see a chain of fast food restaurants, we are bombarded by chemicals in our food, water, and air supply, and we are more overworked and under-rested than at any other point in human history. What we are seeing now is a result of our collective decisions, but this can all change starting now. Today you're going to learn the ins and outs of how diabetes is created, how it's reversed, and how to prevent it from happening in the first place. You're also going to learn EXACTLY how body fat gets created in a way that you've never heard before. In particular, we're going to focus on that especially troublesome fat that accumulates in the midsection, so that you can finally take control of the Battle of the Bulge. Plus, a little bonus with today's episode. To celebrate surpassing over 1 million downloads, I'm giving away several gift packs of Onnit foods and supplements. All you have to do to enter yourself is 1) Follow me on Instagram right here and 2) Tag me in a photo of where you're listening to the show. I'll be selecting a few winners all this week! We've got so many powerful and exciting episodes coming up for you. It kicks off today with this masterclass on reversing diabetes, eradicating obesity, and taking back control of your health. In this episode you'll discover: What diabesity is and where it originated. What the symptoms of diabesity are (you can look down now and see if you have it!) How the rates of diabetes have changed in the last 100+ years (this will shock you!) What blood test you want to get when monitoring systemic inflammation and potential blood sugar problems. How diabetes is actually created (the step-by-step process - this is powerful!) What insulin really is and how it works. The specific tissues that are most responsive to insulin (this can mean life or death...) Why storing unwanted fat is actually a very healthy response of your body. The surprising impact that whole grains have on your blood sugar. How your amazing liver assists in managing healthy blood sugar levels. What the different types of body fat are and how they work. Why women and men store fat differently. How genetics relates to diabetes and obesity (the good, bad, and the ugly!) Why statin drugs increase diabetes risk. The 8 steps to completely reverse diabetes and obesity-related symptoms. What category of foods will help your leptin sensitivity and control your appetite. Why exercise can NEVER compete with your diet. How you can use exercise to treat diabetes (it's a compliment, not a cure!) What supplements are effective in treating diabetes naturally. How stress can lead to diabetes and what to do about it (you need to know this!) Why optimizing your sleep can help you successfully prevent and treat diabetes. TMHS 090: Defeat Stress, Deepen Relationships, And Master Your Mindset - With Prince Ea

Benjamin Franklin made a powerful statement when he said, “There are three things extremely hard: steel, a diamond, and to know one’s self.” Consistent happiness, success, health, deeper relationships, and an empowered mindset are all predicated on your ability to know who you truly are and what you're about. Your success is going to be dependent on your ability to connect with the people and the world around you. But the question is, if you don't understand yourself, how can you expect to truly understand anyone else? Most of us have been programmed (by default) to pursue success somewhere outside of ourselves. We have lost sight of the fact that happiness and success is an inside game. Your ability to master your own mind and perception of reality is the key to seeing the results you want in the world around you. Here's the catch... Benjamin Franklin noted that this is not for the weakhearted. It can be very hard work. Yet, the rewards are bigger and better than anything you've ever imagined. So, whether you're all about the Benjamins or not, listen closely because you're about to get a first class ticket back to the most important person on the planet: Y-O-U. Today we have a very special episode with music artist and thought leader, Prince Ea. He has recently gained worldwide recognition for his powerful spoken word pieces highlighting how we can live with less stress, more happiness, and bigger overall success by following some basic principles that have been around for thousands of years. The way that he packages up and delivers the information are second to none. And what's more powerful is that it doesn't have to be as challenging as you may think to achieve the happiness and self-awareness that has eluded so many people over the centuries. It's never been a matter of "can you do it," it's really a matter of whether or not you have the right strategy in your hands. One idea, just one idea, can dramatically change the quality of your life. The only question is, do you have the heart to take action for yourself to make it happen? My guess is (if you've made it this far) the answer is a resounding yes! So, just click play, get ready, and let the transformation begin. In this episode you'll discover: How great historical figures like Lao Tzu and Buddha relate to hip-hop artist today. How life is actually qualifying you for the things you'll be faced with. Why your perspective is so powerful in influencing your thoughts and actions. The #1 tactic you can use to deal with the haters in your life. What often stops people from pursuing the things they're passionate about. The huge difference between compassion and sympathy. How labeling things inherently creates conflict in our lives. How I first became interested in meditation (you might laugh at this :)). Why technology can prevent the creation of meaningful relationships. What little technology guideline I use to keep my family connected. How health and fitness relates to our mental and spiritual health. What 3 step process you can use to instantly defeat stress. TMHS 089: 180 Pound Weight Loss And The Ketogenic Diet - With Jimmy Moore

It's pretty astonishing when you see the before and after picture of an individual who's had the resolve to lose 80, 90, or even 100+ pounds. It's truly an act that puts them in a fraction of a fraction of the population who's been able to accomplish a feat like that. If they accomplished this naturally (without the use of drugs and surgery), you will often find that these individuals carry a secret that many people never hear about. Sure, they've "worked off" a lot of pounds by the decisions they've made in the kitchen and in the gym, but there was something more profound at work. If you were able to talk with them before and after the weight loss, you'd find out very quickly that, yes, they look different - but they are literally not the same person. The way they talk is different, their perception about reality is different, the way they carry themselves and relate to the world is often totally different. They changed who they are; not just what they do. The real secret is: Weight loss must never be the intended target. Getting fixated on weight loss will often lead to a series of ups and downs, and a whole distaste for the idea of shedding pounds in the first place. So, what should the real focus be? If not obsessing over the numbers staring back at you on the scale, what should the intended target be so that you will actually arrive at the health and beauty you deserve? The intended target must be on becoming the type of person that you need to become to have the health and body that you really want. Health is not something you chase after in hopes that you will capture it one day. Health is something that you attract to yourself by the person that you become. This is where the real work is, because the scale will look you right in the face and not tell you the whole truth. Now, how do we do a show talking about a 180-pound weight loss when we don't want the focus to be on weight loss? Well, it's pretty easy when you have on a guy like Jimmy Moore. He's a humble leader (probably too humble to say that he's a leader), and someone who knows where the path of weight loss tactics and self-perception intercept. He's one of the most gifted people in compiling and sharing health-related information that I've ever met. But, he'll be fast to tell you that he's not perfect. He's accomplished astonishing feats of weight loss several times, and he's arrived at a place that's truly inspirational because he now knows that it's never been the most important thing. The most important thing is that you are happy. That you are happy, grateful, and proud of who you are right now. Only that can be a catalyst for long-term happiness and health. Even though you're going to learn some wonderful tactics for physical transformation today, what it's really about is having the audacity to take responsibility for your life. Only you have the power to change the course and direction of how your life unfolds. It begins by taking full and complete responsibility for your life, dropping the blame and excuses, and knowing that you have the power to change at any moment that you choose. In this episode you'll discover: How our health practices as an adult get programmed at a very young age. What controversial book helped Jimmy lose 180 pounds (unbelievable!!!) The truth about low-fat diets and the interesting side effects they have. Why dietary fat is so important. What ketosis is and how it happens. The big mistake that can happen on the Atkins' Diet that causes people to regain weight. How something called "gluconeogenesis" can stop you from becoming a fat-burner. Why you need to find your unique "carb tolerance" and "protein threshold". What type of carbs trigger fat storage. A secret about fat-soluble vitamins most people overlook. What types of "healthy fats" you should be eating. What type of olive oil you should NEVER use. The healthiest nuts that you may not know about. The most amazing tip about weight loss that I've ever heard (thank you Jimmy!) TMHS 088: Simple Ways To Boost Your Happiness Hormones And The Food-Mood Connection - With Evan Brand

There's a wonderful old quote that says, "Don't put the key to your happiness in someone else's pocket." It's one of the grave mistakes we make as human beings to believe that it's up to someone else to make us happy - or that someone else even can for that matter. Our significant others, friends, and family members don't have some magical pixy dust that they sprinkle on us to make us feel some type of way. How we truly feel, how we experience the emotions of happiness, are due to our own biochemistry, and our own perception of reality. You see, when you feel good, that's you, your brain, and endocrine system releasing hormones and neurotransmitters that make you feel that way. No pixy dust. These are chemicals that YOU produced. Not to negate that our loved ones and the world around us can influence how we feel. It's absolutely true that they can. But, it's because we allow them to. It's your own innate perception that decides whether or not the people/conditions in your life will make you happy or otherwise. Your happiness, is, and always will be, depended on your perception. You can literally program your mind to think that every time it rains it's a joyous occasion. It's cause for celebration! Many ancient cultures have seen it that way. However, most of us unknowingly built a belief that the rain is slightly depressing, a hinderance, or even something we'd rather avoid all together. The truth is, there are no flowers without the rain. So, we can choose to see the good that the rain brings and instantly up our levels of happiness. Or, we can decide that the rain is a problem and your biochemistry will respond accordingly. Is it really that simple to experience more happiness by changing our perception? Well, yes and no. Most of our core beliefs are very hardwired into our nervous system and endocrine system. Your brain doesn't want you to "decide" how you feel about every-little-thing that shows up in your life. It wants to put as many things as it can on automatic so that it can free up space for something new. Your brain is always hungry to grow. This said, to change some of our more deeply ingrained beliefs, it takes practice, repetition, and/or a very emotionally charged event. These things help to create a new neuropathway, and weaken the old neuropathway that had become our default. This can take some work, but it simply starts with the awareness that you CAN change, that you CAN be happy, and that you CAN have more influence over your happiness if you make the decision to. There are several things that you can do to immediately shift how your brain is operating and boost your happiness hormones. Today we have special guest, Evan Brand, on to help us understand how this all works and to provide us with some great strategies for feeling more joy and happiness in our lives right away. We are also covering the food-mood connection, and how diet plays into this whole equation. So tune in, get focused, and let's have some fun! In this episode you'll discover: What a diagnosis of IBS really means and why conventional treatments often fail. Why the standard pre-game food for athletes needs to be changed. One of the major ways that your diet can affect your mood. How your attitude, stress, and mood inherently impact your food choices. How sharp increases in blood sugar lead to eating MORE sugar. What your overall "stress load" is and why it's important. Why having a great body will be unfulfilling without this secret ingredient. How human contact and intimacy can instantly boost your happiness hormones. Why humans have a limited ability to see energy and how that affects our interactions. What your "life wheel" is and how it can help identify imbalances in your life. How stress can actually be beneficial to you. Simple practices you can use to reframe stress and make it positive. What shinrin-yoku is and how it can transform your health. A cool trick to add beneficial essential oils into your family's daily life (thanks Jade!) How to super-charge your nervous system so that stress never breaks you down. TMHS 086: How To Create A Sleep Sanctuary And Get The Best Sleep Ever

We spend approximately 1/3 of our entire lives in a bedroom. That's a long time to be anywhere... This is what makes your bedroom such a special place. And the environment in this room, whether you realize it or not, has a huge impact on your health and longevity. How can a room actually dictate your health? To put it simply, humans are a direct product of their environment. Our brains are constantly creating and strengthening neuro-associations to the places we are the most (i.e. your bedroom!). This helps to automate our behavior. So, basically your bedroom has you programmed like a robot. That's right, you're sort of like a robot. Not as cool as Terminator 2, but not as clunky as the robot from Short Circuit. In all seriousness, your brain has evolved constantly looking for ways to automate things to free up mental energy. Your bedroom setup will inherently influence your behavior, and if great sleep is a behavior you want to take part in, then listen to this closely. There are certain things you're about to learn that turn the average person's bedroom into a danger zone. The surface experience may be that they're waking up tired each day (how ironic is that to wake up tired?!). But the deeper issues that a dangerous bedroom set up can bring are diabetes, cancer, birth defects, or even SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and I've got the science to prove it. The good news is, you're also about to learn how to create your very own sleep sanctuary that invigorates your health, adds to your vitality, and helps you to get the best sleep ever. This is because humans aren't just products of our environment, we are also creators of our environment. And with a few simple tweaks you'll be getting the best sleep of your life every night. In this episode you'll discover: How our brains are always trying to automate things. Why humans actually have 3 different brains.
