In this episode, we chat to Akiba Leisman, CEO of Mako Mining Corp who is a publicly listed gold mining, development, and exploration company operating the high-grade San Albino gold mine in Nicaragua. Akiba is a chemical engineer by background and worked in investment banking and holds a few board roles. It has been Mexico’s highest-grade silver mine since production commenced in 2005 Brendan has a background in law with a proven track record within the mining industry and talks about the fortunes of Excellon Resources and their Silver City project in Saxony, Germany which has a long history that many know. In this episode, we chat with Richard Williams, CEO of Cornish Metals who is an Associate Company of Osisko. They are building a portfolio of strategic metals assets in the United Kingdom and North America. Their near-term strategy is to focus on exploration of the near-surface high-grade copper and tin mineralization at the United Downs project in Cornwall, UK.  Richard is a Professional Geologist who has over 30 years of experience in the mining and mineral exploration sector. As well as the rich history of mining in Cornwall and what the area has to offer in the decades to come.  KEY TAKEAWAYS The Cornish South Crofty asset they acquired already has planning permission and a new mine permit. It is the highest-grade tin project in the world that is not yet in production. Tin is essential to the tech markets, Internet of Things, and electrification. There is still a lot of high-quality tin, and other metals, available in Cornwall. The community around the South Crofty site is extremely supportive. They know it will generate wealth for the area. Old workings mean that 100% of the tailings can be put back underground. There is also copper, zinc, lithium, and silver in the area. Something that has been re-confirmed by recent drills. It is estimated that there will be around 33/34 pounds of tin for every tonne of rock. Extremely high grade. The process they plan to use to dewater the mine is specifically designed to improve the environment. Opportunities to generate green energy using the resources available on site are being investigated. The surface impact is anticipated to be minimal. South Crofty should be in production within 5 years. In this episode, we chat with Phil Antunes and Tony Reschke of Simem Underground Solutions. They provide custom mining solutions, designs, engineers, and manufactures site-ready Paste Backfill, Shotcrete, and Grout plants with pumping systems for on-surface and underground mining which plays an important role in the mining process. Phil is the technical director and Tony is the Vice President and they tell us more about the company and the importance of backfill solutions within mine production. In this episode, we chat to Mike Ferguson, President, and CEO of Gensource Potash who are a Canada-based fertilizer development company, which is focused on developing resource opportunities with a specific focus on potash development. Mike is a professional engineer with over 25 years of experience in potash and uranium and is leading the development of this greenfield property and tells us all about the company and their Tugaske project and the sustainable production methods used.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Gensource Potash trades on the Toronto Venture Stock Exchange and the London AIM Market. Financing was very Europe-centric, so London is a good fit. Taking a modular approach enables them to start small and easily find finance, then ramp up as fast as the market allows. A single module of 250,000 tonnes production is a strong economic unit all by itself. These small modules can be run at 100% capacity from day one, which improves capital efficiencies. All product for the Saskatchewan facility is presold. A setup that virtually eliminates risk. Gensource is turning potash mining into something more akin to a manufacturing process. No salt tailings are created, which means no surface brine ponds. All of their power and heat are self-generated. They plan to become a true net-zero operation. Tugaske will be co-owned by Gensource and their partner Helm. The cyclical mining approach they use enables them to use 75% less freshwater per tonne of product. Working with Helm, Gensource is disrupting the market providing an alternative supply in a market where just five producer accounts for 75 to 80% of the supply. Gensource´s supply chain has been greatly simplified, which saves a lot of money. It also has an extremely low carbon footprint. A growing global population means demand for potash will continue to grow. In this episode, we chat with a returning guest who appeared in Episode 117 in February 2021. Matt Salthouse is the Chief Executive Officer at Kainantu Resources. An Asia-Pacific-focused gold mining company with two highly prospective gold projects in a premier mining region, the high-grade Kainantu gold district of Papua New Guinea (PNG).  Matt gives us an update on what’s been happening in PNG and with Kainantu Resources over the last 10 months when he was last on the podcast. We discuss the May River acquisition, the north, and south program, and the FSE listing and capital management.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Over the past 10 months, their focus has been on mapping resources in KRL South. They are in the process of closing their copper-gold May River deal, which brings together three concessions. In this episode, we chat to David Stein, CEO of Kuya Silver who is developing first-class, high-margin sustainable silver mining operations in Peru. They are focused on growth and cash flow with a focus on low-cost silver operations in mining-friendly jurisdictions David has a background in geology and engineering and founded Kuya Silver back in 2017 so he talks about their flagship project Bethania and their newly acquired silver project in Northern Ontario.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Bethania, Peru was in operation until 2016 and Kuya is due to start production again by the end of 2022. Most of the veins at Bethania have been made bigger and new veins have been discovered nearby. The Ontario acquisition is the first step in becoming a multi-mine producer. In the episode, we chat to Galen McNamara, CEO of Summa Silver Corp that is a TSX-listed explorer focusing on developing the Hughes Property in the prolific Tonopah district of Nevada. They have also commenced drilling at Mogollon, New Mexico Galen is a geologist by trade and has over 15 years of experience in discovery and capital markets. Apart from heading up Summa Silver, he also sits on a few different boards. In this episode, he talks about both projects, the progress they have made and gives us an update on the current silver market.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Summa Silver is a new silver exploration company that focuses on the Southwestern US. They have two historic properties that have not been explored using modern technology. At the Tonopah, Nevada project they are getting grades above one thousand grammes per tonne on multiple targets. The best hole at Tonopah is 4408 grammes per tonne silver equivalent over 2.8 meters. They are about to start drilling at the New Mexico Mogollon project. Currently, between 60 and 70% of silver is used for industrial purposes. In the future, that percentage will rise sharply as demand from the electric car industry grows. Good silver assets are hard to find, so servicing that demand is going to be hard. Another reason prices are likely to rise. Despite doing a lot of drilling Summa Silver is still quite well-financed- The outlook for the silver market for 2022 is good. In the podcast, Galen explains why.
