Effect on Emotions
Mindfulness helped me recognize what emotions I was actually feeling and what was creating that emotional state; my thoughts.
Mindfulness has also taught me how to stay present with myself and create more good feelings.
Thoughts on Breathing
Breathing is so core. I find myself, periodically through the day, taking time to take deep breaths because it brings everything back to center for me.
I'm an athlete and breathing is key, in terms of cycling and running. The human breath is really everything.

Effect on Emotions
I probably am a bit more easy going than I used to be, because I view now this life has just being almost like a temporary stop of consciousness.
So if that's true, I think I still take things seriously, but there is this fall back of understanding. There's a much bigger picture going on beyond whatever small problems I have on a daily basis.
So I think it's really helped me rethink things that might have stressed me out or caused anxiety.
Thoughts on Breathing
I'm much more open now to the effects of breathing, especially after seeing things like holotropic breath work, which is basically a way of inducing a psychedelic state. I haven't experienced it, but it's often talked about.
Also, the Wim Hoff method (www.WimHofMethod.com), that's something where, I think, everyone who does it experiences an altered state of consciousness by over-oxygenating the brain, effectively.
You breath heavily in and then you let the breath go, so you end up netting in more oxygen than you're letting out. And when you do that for a long time and then hold your breath, like he suggests, it's almost like a state of euphoria just from breathing.

My wife. She is very realistic and grounded. She helps me put my life in perspective as I think that all of us tend to lose sight a bit of our center. She has done a good job.
Effect on Emotions
I think without mindfulness, I couldn't do the job. I think you gotta know who you are, know what you are doing and keep in touch with reality. I think those things are part of mindfulness.
If there is a chance to transfer some of that mindfulness to the patients and relatives, it will be precious and I try to do that too.
Thoughts on Breathing
I don't focus on breathing, not at all. For some reason, I don't need relaxation techniques or anything like that. I just work and it works for me. Right. My breathing is just on automatic pilot.

403 Listening To Smile With Composer Ian Morris
Ian Morris heals with sound. He has over 20 years experience in the creative arts field. He uses sound and frequency and healing vibes to create something he calls, Frequency Minded Music. Ian’s goal with this music is to help those that struggle and feel alone, so that they find hope and become empowered to heal, grow and be whole again. Frequency minded music incorporates various melodies that are introduced throughout the duration of a song and are played in a key which resonates for healing in each specific client. This method of sound healing follows a different approach compared to traditional sound therapies such as those using tuning forks, gongs or singing bowls. Ian has worked with organizations such as United Way, Hospice, and Meals On Wheels.

Effect on Emotions
When I was younger I definitely had a lot of anger issues and I think I attributed it to the frustration of being bullied and going through the frustration of wanting my mind to be working like everyone else's. And it wasn't.
And so I was constantly in a state of frustration and anger. And, I think what mindfulness and meditation has done for me is it's helped me to realize that everyone's not the same and that we all have our strengths in certain areas. And to be okay with that, to let go of needing to be like everyone else and to become more me.
You are the only you and that's your true power.
Thoughts on Breathing
I would say breath is probably the biggest for me in the meditation routine because I feel like 10 slow inhales and exhales can change anyone's mood, just in the snap of a finger. And I think that it gives more oxygen to your body, your organs work different, your whole system functions differently when you give it the oxygen that it needs.
We go through life in such a hustle-bustle that we forget that we're not even breathing at all. We're just kind of surviving there. And so breath is very, very powerful for altering moods and setting the tone for my meditation. It's very powerful.

Bullying Story
Yeah, so right off the bat, the first thing I think about is having dyslexia. I was made fun of a tremendous amount in school. In dealing with that learning disability. I took longer for tests and I had a hard time in school when I was younger.
The big thing was that you would read chapters and then copy those chapters to page and they wanted you to learn from that. And I was just not that kind of person. Plus I had a hard time from that transference from the book to the page. But if someone would talk about it in front of me, I would remember every single thing that they said.
I was very into the auditory learning. You know, basically sound and voice. Still to this day, if an actor comes on screen and if I don't see them, I can just recognize them from their voice even if it's an obscure person that was on a show from six months ago that was just like a guest appearance. That was just always the way I learned.
I was called dumb and stupid and just had a really hard time. Fourth grade through eighth grade, it was just really hard. I got bullied a lot and had a lot of issues where I didn't want to go to school.

402 Science and Spiritualism With Spiritual Atheist Author Nick Seneka Jankel
Nick Seneka Jankel is a Cambridge-educated scientist who, very reluctantly at first, was called to become a spiritual teacher. He struggled for many years with how to reconcile his profound experiences of the transformational power of spirituality and meditation with his belief in science and reason (and his disdain for superstitions of any kind). Realizing millions of people who identify as “spiritual not religious” – around 25% of the US population today – struggle with the same thing, he has spent the last few years writing a book that tells of his quest to unite science and wisdom into a rigorous and radical life philosophy that ensures we can heal ourselves, transform our problems and thrive in life, in love, and in leadership. Nick is not a traditional spiritual teacher and transformational coach. He has taught at the business schools of Yale & Oxford, spoken at No.10 Downing Street by invite of the Prime Minister, contributed to The Economist and The Guardian, and was a TV host on a network show for the BBC. He has also been a guest on Hay House Radio, spoken at Google HQ, headlined at Conscious Life Expo in LA and shared his ideas on science and spirituality at Aspen Ideas Festival.

Effect on Emotions
It's made me a more calm, level, and relaxed person. Understanding that I can't be perfect nor will I ever be perfect, what I do is, I simply try to be the best version of me. I have my bad moments, but I catch myself. I'm more self-aware now.
Thoughts on Breathing
Breathing is the key to mindfulness. If you are holding your breath you are turning on the fight or flight.
You are most likely either chest breathing or you are stimulating what is called the sympathetic nervous system. It's hard to be relaxed, it's hard to produce gaba, serotonin, all the relaxation neurotransmitters if you are holding your breath. Most people do. I used to. Or chest breathing under stress.
What you do is you go back to belly breathing. You can look up diaphragmatic breathing or belly breathing. I did an interview on this with one of the foremost doctors on breathing. You want to breathe in through the nasal passages and if you have clogged nasal passages, then you need to work on why they're clogged and inflamed like mine were.
You're going to focus back on the one thing you really can control, and that's your breath. By going back to your breath it will take your mind off the situation and then you can refocus back on that situation.

Effect on Emotions
Mindfulness has affected my emotions by just being aware. Awareness.
Sometimes we can really get drawn into someone else's bad mood or negativity or drama or issue, but when you're being much more mindful about your life you're much more inclined to be drawn into their issues and struggles as well.
Thoughts on Breathing
When I meditate in the morning, I really am connecting with my breath. That helps me connect with my being.
Whenever I find myself completely frazzled and stressed, I just come back to breathing, three deep breaths, breathing in, 1,2,3, and out, 1,2,3. It just centers you so you can get back to that place of present.

Effect on Emotions
I would say it affected my ability to respectfully call myself out, if I'm in that stressful mode. To recognize that even that stressful mode, anger, resentment, anxiety, whatever it may be, is a moment that from my language is already hypnotic in nature.
Let's use a simple definition of a word that some people would have connotations of, the word trance.
That's a loaded word, but my definition is rather simple: When internal perception carries more meaning than external reality.
So that mindful moment just to take a deep breath, observe the environment that I'm actually in, become aware of my body occupying space is often that number one strategy to solve whatever stress or frustration may be there.
Thoughts on Breathing
You always get to bring your breath with you, and as long as you're breathing, you're going with the old George Burns line that I woke up in the morning, I read the obituaries, I didn't see my name, it was going to be a good day.
But it has that ability to centralize the focus of the breathing and even at times to play with breathing that, from an almost hypnotic standpoint, to play with taking that breath and moving that in to a part of the body just dissolves away whatever stress or unresourceful emotion would be there.

Effect on Emotions
Let me put it this way. I was always so afraid of feeling myself because I was afraid of what I would feel. And it wasn't until I got mindful, till I got present with my emotions that actually my life changed.
So mindfulness has played a huge role in every aspect of my life because of the fact that I was willing to slow down and feel myself.
Thoughts on Breathing
Breathing, when I'm spinning, I can get really woo and spin and spray. So that's the key tool to coming back. I love taking in a very mindful breath of breathing in four seconds, holding it at the top and then breathing out four seconds and then holding it at the bottom.
And doing that just a couple of times that really centers me and it just, it, it makes me just take all my energy intention out of the world that I'm in or what I'm thinking about that I'm spinning about and just coming back to the moment and really grounding me. I do that a lot.

Bullying Story
I don't get bullied and I do not bully because I understand that the whole bullying situation is based on law of attraction. You have to have a victim and you have to have a bully and you have to have someone being willing to be bullied, whether they're aware of it or not. Because what's happening with the bully is that somewhere in their life they're being bullied and they're trying to find their power.
And what's been modeled for them; what is a source for them because that's what they've seen is that they then bully. And so I have a situation, I think it's been about four years ago now.
My son Maxim who is now eight, but when he was in kindergarten just going into kindergarten, there was a little kid named Gibson and Gibson would one day pretend to be his friend and then the next day would push them down and hurt him. I would get so angry. [I would say to Maxim], why aren't you speaking up? Why aren't you telling somebody? And he was just like, because I want him to be my friend.
And it's like, wake up Maxim, he can't bully you if you say no, if you stand up to him. The only way bullying can continue is if a person continues to allow it and doesn't do something about it. When you show a bully your power and you're saying no, not to me, the bully will go somewhere else or they'll try to find it somewhere else, but they're not going to bully you.
And we had to get in that with him in many, many conversations. And it was really interesting. He just finally woke up, I think it was about six years old and this kid was kicked out of the school and he went for his blue belt in karate. At the age of six and something just snapped in him. And he, he started with his brother, um, at like these little amusement park places.
There was a bully that was bullying other little kids and he walked up to the bully who was bigger than him and he said, hey, go pick on someone your own size, you know, standing up for this kid. He really grew in his power and now, if anybody was to ever to bully either one of my kids, they'd be like, what are you doing here?
Because they really own that, you're only going to bully me because you're trying to feel better about yourself in some way. And the only way that they know how to do that is because they need a power over somebody and you're not going to power over me. So they, they stand up for themselves.
