Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang, from the tech bubble to the age of AI: 100TH EPISODE OF OPENING BID

Not many internet companies from the past 30 years conjure up the allure of Yahoo. The tech pioneer was the first guide for people to the fast-growing internet in the mid to late 1990s. Along the way came legendary products such as Yahoo.com, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, Yahoo News and Yahoo Mail. These timeless products endure today as the go-to trusted guide for millions of people around the world in their respective categories. Amidst its rocketship-like success also came a dose of fascinating headlines in the 2000s, ranging from an offer by Microsoft (MSFT) to buy the company for $45 billion and a decision to make an early investment in then Jack Ma-led upstart Alibaba (BABA). In the milestone 100th episode of the Opening Bid vodcast, Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi sits down with Yahoo co-founder and AME Cloud Ventures Founding Partner Jerry Yang. Yang shares leadership lessons learned from the early days of Yahoo and how the next generation of entrepreneurs could apply them to achieve success in the era of AI. Yang also wades into the outlook for the internet as it continues to experience disruption amid the rise of AI and ChatGPT. While Yang reflects fondly on his time creating the Yahoo juggernaut, he has since gone on to be an early-stage investor in many of the companies powering the world today, such as Zoom (ZM). Yang offers insight into how he is investing today and why.Yahoo Finance's Opening Bid, brings you a high-octane take on the freshest analyst calls, wildest stock moves and shrewdest commentary in the business world. Rate cut decision was a 'close' call: SF Fed's Mary Daly

The market wasn't surprised by the Federal Reserve's decision to cut the fed funds rate by 25 basis points on Wednesday. But the outlook that showed FOMC members only expect two rate cuts did, sending stocks plummeting. In an interview with Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi on Opening Bid, San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly said the decision to cut was a "close call" that "took a lot of deliberation" but that she ultimately decided "it was appropriate to reduce it 25 basis points. That will be a hundred basis points of recalibration. And I see that as right-sizing the policy rate level to the economy we have, recognizing the progress on inflation, recognizing the labor market's now well-balanced. There's one job opening for every unemployed worker. That's a perfect balance."Daly sees the "recalibration period" as "completed" meaning the Fed can now make decisions more slowly as they get more data to process. On the issue of the 2025 outlook, Daly stresses that it is a projection but that the Fed remains committed to bringing inflation down, "and that will mean restricted policy through the year in all likelihood." Daly says if inflation were to rise, she wouldn't rule out raising rates, but that's not something she sees on the horizon. Ultimately, Daly says, "I do not see that we're done cutting rates. I just see that we're going to adjust rates at a slower pace."So what will Daly be watching to make her next rate decision? Inflation and employment data, of course. But also what she is hearing from those who live and work in her district. What are they seeing on the ground? Are businesses hiring? Laying people off? On that point, she says, "I'm hearing that they're not really brushing off their layoff plans, they're just thinking carefully about the amount of hiring they do, and they're thinking carefully about whether they refill jobs if people attrit or leave the jobs."Yahoo Finance's Opening Bid, brings you a high-octane take on the freshest analyst calls, wildest stock moves and shrewdest commentary in the business world. The Trump bull market is just beginning: former TD Ameritrade CEO

Corporate America is gearing up for Trump 2.0, having already gotten a flavor of what Trump has in mind. Potentially crushing fresh tariffs on China, even if it means higher levels of US inflation. Mass deportations come with their own set of economic risks. And soon, a new leader atop the Federal Reserve. Is there any way a top executive could prepare for uncertain outcomes tied to these initiatives from the Trump administration? How does one lead their teams when uncertainty begins to reign supreme again? Yahoo Finance executive editor Brian Sozzi sat down with former TD Ameritrade CEO and former head football coach at Coastal Carolina University Joe Moglia. Moglia is not only considered a market master for his work from 2001 to 2008 building TD Ameritrade into a trading powerhouse but also a leadership expert honed while coaching college football. Moglia shares his perspective on the record-setting year for markets, what’s next for investors, and how to lead with a clear focus in 2025.Yahoo Finance's Opening Bid, brings you a high-octane take on the freshest analyst calls, wildest stock moves and shrewdest commentary in the business world. Nvidia stock sell-off — should you be worried? Yahoo Finance names Nvidia Blackwell Product of the Year

Stocks don’t go up in a straight line, and that pertains to the market’s favorite name Nvidia as well! Shares of the chip-maker have fallen into correction territory, dropping by 12% from their November highs. Pros point to several factors for the sell-off, ranging from only an OK third quarter earnings report to signs of new competition from Amazon and Broadcom. Comments from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on chip supply have also weighed on Nvidia sentiment. Even still, Nvidia managed to secure the 2024 Product of the Year award for its work with game-changing AI chip Blackwell. Yahoo Finance executive editor Brian Sozzi is joined at the roundtable at the Nasdaq in Times Square by one of Wall Street’s most respected chip analysts, Bofa’s Vivek Arya. Arya has been a long-time bull on Nvidia, giving the company high marks for its leadership in chip design and execution. But despite that bullishness, he hasn’t shied away from urging caution on the stock in key periods for the company. Arya dives into his current thinking on the AI chip darling of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, and offers up a few predictions that will surely garner the attention of the many Nvidia bulls.Yahoo Finance's Opening Bid, brings you a high-octane take on the freshest analyst calls, wildest stock moves and shrewdest commentary in the business world.
