Today's guest is Ken Rabe. He is a Founding Partner and Creative Director at Rabe & Co in Beacon NY. During this episode we talk about: -how his three older brothers "forced" him into drawing and artwork. It's not bad, he explains it. -the teachers that helped him build a portfolio to get into art school once he decided that was the direction he wanted to go. -his time bouncing back and forth from large agency to smaller studio and why. -the vinyl album cover artwork that really stood out to him and why. -the two agency designers and how they helped him shape his likes and styles. -the silkscreen printed and laser cut invitation project he was a part of and why that was so cool.-the crossroad he faced in his career where he was working tirelessly on just pitch design after pitch design and what he did about it. I was introduced to Ken through Craig Valentino who is the Senior Designer at Rabe & Co and who I interviewed for Episode 64 of the Quickie Podcast. She is also the author of an adult guide to lettering book called "Please don't do coke in the bathroom".During this episode we talk about:-her creative childhood and the Grade 10 marketing course that introduced her to exactly what graphic design was and how it lit her creative fire.-the museum she went to that inspired her type related Instagram channel-How that Instagram channel led to her getting a book deal for her book "Please don't do coke in the bathroom".-the early days of Best Studio, how and why her and her other CoFounder Mariko started the studio. -the branding project that didn't go well at first and the panic it caused because of where they were at in the Best Studio start up. -two beverage branding projects that she is really proud to have been a part of. Today's guest is Ben Connolly. He is the founder and creative director of Angel & Anchor in Belfast Ireland. He is also part of Final Final which is a studio supply brand for designers.
