Future of the West: Should Traditionalists Try to Take Back Control of Institutions or Just Give Up?

Our guest on this week's #SWYSI is journalist Tim Stanley, author of the new book: Whatever Happened to Tradition: History, Belonging & The Future of the West. For Tim, the West feels lost. Brexit, Trump, the coronavirus: we hurtle from one crisis to another, lacking definition, terrified that our best days are behind us. As Tim explains to Peter Whittle, the central argument of his book is that we can only face the future with hope if we have a proper sense of tradition – political, social and religious. We ignore our past at our peril. The problem, Tim argues, is that the Western tradition is anti-tradition, that we have a habit of discarding old ways and old knowledge, leaving us uncertain how to act or, even, of who we really are. The good news, he argues, is that tradition can also be rebuilt. It's been done before. The process is fraught with danger, but the ultimate prize of rediscovering tradition is self-knowledge and freedom. Sir David Amess's Friend Ann Widdecombe on His Murder, MP Safety, Religion & Online Safety Bill

In a special episode of Widdecombe, Webb & Woberts LIVE, Ann Widdecombe pays tribute to her good friend Sir David Amess, who was horrifically murdered in a frenzied attack during a constituency surgery. She reflects on their friendship and his career as well as his murder; and discusses the nature of the media and political attention it has received in the days following. Other topics discussed include MP safety (should constituents be vetted prior to meeting their MP?), the Online Safety Bill (is this a distraction given that there is no evidence it has any relevance to Sir David's murder?) and the conversion to Roman Catholicism of Dr. Michael Nazir Ali, formerly the Anglican Bishop of Rochester. #NCFWWW --------------- SUBSCRIBE: If you are enjoying the show, please subscribe to our channel on YouTube (click the Subscribe Button underneath the video and then Click on the Bell icon next to it to make sure you Receive All Notifications) AUDIO: If you prefer Audio you can subscribe on itunes or Soundcloud. British Police Have Transformed Into A Tool For Enforcing The State's Will -- Peter Hitchens

This time on #SWYSI, Peter Hitchens discusses the British police's historic transformation into a form unrecognisable from decades past. He agues that the British police were once unique in the world. They were an important conservative & very English institution which was set up in complete distinction from continental police forces. Parliament had seen European police forces become tools of oppression. They were armed & uniformed state police whose job was to enforce the will of the state -- and it was not felt that such a body should exist in Britain. Consequently, the British police force that was set up was very different: unarmed, not given special powers, limited in their abilities. This is no longer the case. --------------- SUBSCRIBE: If you are enjoying the show, please subscribe to our channel on YouTube (click the Subscribe Button underneath the video and then Click on the Bell icon next to it to make sure you Receive All Notifications)

George III - The Life & Reign Of Britain's Most Misunderstood Monarch -- Andrew Roberts

Our guest on this week's #SWYSI is renowned historian & biographer Andrew Roberts, author of a critically-acclaimed new biography of King George III. Britain's longest-reigning king, George III has gone down in history as 'the cruellest tyrant of this age' (Thomas Paine, eighteenth century), 'a sovereign who inflicted more profound and enduring injuries upon this country than any other modern English king' (W.E.H. Lecky, nineteenth century), 'one of England's most disastrous kings' (J.H. Plumb, twentieth century) and as the pompous monarch of the musical Hamilton (twenty-first century). Andrew Roberts's magnificent new biography takes entirely the opposite view. It portrays George as intelligent, benevolent, scrupulously devoted to the constitution of his country and (as head of government as well as head of state) navigating the turbulence of eighteenth-century politics with a strong sense of honour and duty. He was a devoted husband and family man, a great patron of the arts and sciences, keen to advance Britain's agricultural capacity ('Farmer George') and determined that her horizons should be global. He could be stubborn and self-righteous, but he was also brave, brushing aside numerous assassination attempts, galvanising his ministers and generals at moments of crisis and stoical in the face of his descent - five times during his life - into a horrifying loss of mind. The book gives a detailed, revisionist account of the American Revolutionary War, persuasively taking apart a significant proportion of the Declaration of Independence, which Roberts shows to be largely Jeffersonian propaganda. In a later war, he describes how George's support for William Pitt was crucial in the battle against Napoleon. And he makes a convincing, modern diagnosis of George's terrible malady, very different to the widely accepted medical view and to popular portrayals. Roberts writes, 'the people who knew George III best loved him the most', and that far from being a tyrant or incompetent, George III was one of our most admirable monarchs. The diarist Fanny Burney, who spent four years at his court and saw him often, wrote 'A noble sovereign this is, and when justice is done to him, he will be as such acknowledged'. In presenting this fresh view of Britain's most misunderstood monarch, George III shows one of Britain's premier historians at his sparkling best." For further info on the book please click here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/George-III-B... About the Author Andrew Roberts is a biographer and historian of international renown whose books include Salisbury: Victorian Titan (winner of the Wolfson Prize for History), Masters and Commanders (winner of the Emery Reves Award), The Storm of War (winner of the British Army Book Prize), Napoleon the Great (winner of the Grand Prix of the Fondation Napoléon and the Los Angeles Times Biography Prize) and Leadership in War. His Churchill: Walking with Destiny (2018) was acclaimed as 'undoubtedly the best single-volume life of Churchill ever written' (Sunday Times) and was a major bestseller in UK and USA. Roberts is a Fellow of the Royal Societies of Literature and the Royal Historical Society, and a Trustee of the International Churchill Society. He is currently Visiting Professor at the Department of War Studies at King's College, London, and the Roger and Martha Mertz Visiting Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. BBC's Shameless Double Standards In Coverage Of Trump Versus Biden - Sarah Elliott

Sarah Elliott is Chairwoman of Republicans Overseas UK, the official body representing the US Republican Party in the UK. In this interview with former BBC journalist Robin Aitken (author of "Can We Trust the BBC?"), Mrs. Elliott discusses her first-hand experiences of BBC attitudes towards Trump and the Republicans. Mrs. Elliott states that the BBC were lazy in their coverage of Trump, simply following the New York Times and Washington Post talking points. Mainstream media wanted Trump ("the big, bad orange man") to be a racist from the start, choosing to infer this from his immigration and border policies whilst drawing no such conclusion from Biden's actions. From abortion to BLM, Identity politics, immigration and the appointment of Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanagh, the BBC has left little doubt as to its preferences. This was never clearer than in the US presidential campaign, where Joe Biden's outrageous comments about Antifa and the scandals surrounding his son, Hunter, were completely ignored by the MSM, including the BBC. This interview was recorded for episode 5 of the New Culture Forum's landmark documentary series "Heresies" (#NCFHeresies). Migration Watch: Tory Government Is INCREASING Immigration, Which Is Already At Unprecedented Levels

On this week's #SWYSI, the Chairman of Migration Watch tells the stark truth about UK immigration, revealing that he does not trust the government. He argues that government policy will increase not reduce immigration. Indeed, rather than enabling British jobs for British people post Brexit, government policy has opened up the UK job market to 600 million people globally. In the past 20 years the foreign born population of the UK has doubled to 9 million. Net immigration of 300,000 per year already poses huge problems for integration, problems that will become worse over time -- and highly damaging to society and the nation. Alp Mehmet is a former British diplomat and was one of Britain's first 2 ethnic minority Ambassadors. He succeeded Lord Green as Chairman of Migration Watch in 2019. --------------- SUBSCRIBE: If you are enjoying the show, please subscribe to our channel on YouTube (click the Subscribe Button underneath the video and then Click on the Bell icon next to it to make sure you Receive All Notifications) AUDIO: If you prefer Audio you can subscribe on itunes or Soundcloud.
