"Having the deeper discussions mainstream media won't provide."
Founded in 2006, the NCF is one of Britain's leading conservative think tanks. Our mission is to challenge the cultural orthodoxies dominant in our institutions, public life and wider culture.
So What You're Saying Is... (#SWYSI) is our weekly interview programme, NewSpeak is our weekly "in-house" discussion show, and CounterCulture is our panel discussion with experts and significant figures from the political, cultural and academic worlds.
Our goal is to provide what the MSM won't: a platform for leading voices & experts from politics, culture, academia etc. to engage in calm, constructive and enlightening discussions on the most critical issues of today.

Charles Moore On BBC Bias - 'BBC Assumes White People Are Bad & Black Or Brown Are Good'
Former BBC journalist Robin Aitken (author of "Can We Trust the BBC?") interviews Lord (Charles) Moore, former editor of The Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph & The Spectator and official biographer of Margaret Thatcher.
In a wide-ranging discussion, Lord Moore discusses Mrs. Thatcher's attitude towards -- and attempts to reform -- the BBC, the BBC's failure to understand how or why the public could vote for Thatcher, Brexit or Donald Trump and the *British* Broadcasting Corporation's sneering & snobbish attitude towards patriotism.
He also discusses the BBC's uncritical obsession with BLM as well as Islam, towards which it is very protective whilst being overtly hostile to Christianity -- failing, for example, to properly cover Christian persecution around the world. Lord Moore & Robin Aitken also consider whether reform of the BBC is desirable and achievable or whether the institution should be scrapped completely.
This interview was recorded for episode 5 of the New Culture Forum's landmark documentary series "Heresies" (#NCFHeresies). Written & presented by Robin Aitken, "BBC Bias Exposed: An Insider's Story", may be seen here (and features excerpts from this interview): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i7yG...

In a wide-ranging discussion covering their experiences at the institution, the gradual erosion of BBC impartiality and the decline of trust in the organisation, Rod Liddle and Robin Aitken also consider whether reform is desirable and achievable or whether the institution should be scrapped completely.

A Journey Across Muslim Britain - Why Prof. Ed Husain Is Worried
Islam is the fastest-growing faith community in Britain. Domes and minarets are redefining the skylines of towns and cities as mosques become an increasingly prominent feature. Yet while Britain has prided itself on being a global home of cosmopolitanism and modern civilisation, its deep-rooted relationship with Islam is complex, threatened by rising hostility.
There is much media debate about embracing diversity in our communities, but what does integration look like on the ground, in places like Dewsbury, Glasgow, Belfast and London? How are Muslims, young and old, reconciling British values - of individualism, the rule of law, free speech & equality between the sexes - with literalist interpretations of their faith? And how is this tension, away from the public gaze, unfolding inside mosques today?
In this episode of #SWYSI, author & academic Prof. Ed Husain discusses how his new book "Among the Mosques: A Journey Across Muslim Britain" took him into the heart of Britain's Muslim communities in a search for answers.
Travelling the length and breadth of the country, Husain joins men and women in their prayers, conversations, meals etc. He tells their stories here in an open and honest account that brings the daily reality of British Muslim life sharply into focus - a struggle of identity and belonging, caught between tradition and modernity, East and West, revelation and reason.
Ed Husain is an adjunct Professor in the Walsh School of Foreign Service in Georgetown University. He is also a writer and political advisor who has worked with leaders and governments across the world. He has held senior fellowships at think tanks in London and New York, including at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) at the height of the Arab uprisings (2010-2015). While at CFR, his policy innovation memo led to the US-led creation of a Geneva-based global fund to help counter terrorism.
Husain was a senior advisor to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair (2015-2018). From 2018-2021 he completed his doctoral studies on Western philosophy and Islam under the direction of the English philosopher Sir Roger Scruton. He is the author of The Islamist (Penguin, 2007), The House of Islam: A Global History (Bloomsbury, 2018), and Among the Mosques (Bloomsbury, 2021). His writing has been shortlisted for the George Orwell Prize. A regular contributor to the Spectator magazine, he has appeared on the BBC and CNN and has written for the Telegraph, The Times, the New York Times, the Guardian and other publications.

Legendary Pollster Frank Luntz: The British Public Are Deeply Disillusioned
This time on #SWYSI, we are joined by legendary pollster Frank Luntz. As the world's leading expert on political language & communication, Dr. Luntz is extremely well known in both his native USA as well as the UK, where his advice is eagerly sought by governments and senior politicians.
Dr Frank Luntz, has spent the summer working with the Centre for Policy Studies on a landmark survey of the British public’s language and values. He has conducted one of the most extensive polling exercises yet seen, uncovering the public’s sentiments on language and values. (Full report here: https://www.cps.org.uk/media/press-re...)
His headline findings are:
Britain is not as divided as America - but an alarmingly large segment of the public is deeply disillusioned.
Voters are almost as fed up with business as with politicians - presenting a huge challenge for supporters of capitalism and enterprise.
Tory and Labour supporters are united by their values - but fundamentally split on policies and priorities.
Concern about climate change is cross-party - but ‘woke’ attitudes are far less mainstream than in the US.
Voters prefer the Tory party of today to its predecessors - but all voters prefer the Labour Party of Tony Blair to that of Starmer or Corbyn.
43% of Britons feel they are invested in their country, but only 27% feel it is invested in them.
70% of respondents said politicians were in it for themselves or their party, with a mere 9% believing they prioritised their constituents.
The key words people chose to describe their attitudes towards politicians were ‘disappointed’ (40%), ‘ignored’ (36%) and ‘fed up’ (30%). Nine of the top 10 answers were negative, with only 14% saying they made them feel ‘hopeful.’
Two thirds of respondents agreed that their attitude to politicians was 'F*** em all', including 78% of Labour voters and 46% of Conservatives.
Only 34% of voters think Britain is ‘an exceptional country’ - while as many as 22% think Britain has ‘failed its people’.
