The Purpose of Life (Your Life)

How about a little quiz? Don't worry, it's only one question—Do you control your ego, or does your ego control you? Many of us have been taught to regard the idea of ego with suspicion and judgment. We hear that ego is synonymous with selfishness and try to do whatever we can to get away from it. The truth is, the ego is an integral part of your being, and an important ingredient to designing a healthy, balanced life. The trick is just to be in control of it, rather than letting it guide your life. If at the core of your actions is a desire to help others and add value to their lives regardless of your own benefit, but you understand the need to also make a living, you probably have a pretty healthy ego. On the other hand, if at the core of your actions is a desire to get noticed, to receive accolades, and to be remembered, then your ego is probably getting a little ahead of you. No need to worry, though – there is hope for us all! In this episode, you will… Learn how to transform purpose into profit Understand how to go from ego-driven to purpose-driven for a happier, more successful life! Discover the distinction between mission and purpose and why you need them both Determine whether or not your mission and purpose are aligned for success Hear how to re-engineer your ego to have a more meaningful life I had to go on an ego-balancing journey myself, and I'm here to tell you that after reducing ego, I began to experience more happiness, fulfillment, and success than ever before, because my goals were more than just "me"-centered pursuits. If I can make the change, so can you! Tune in! Radical Generosity: Why Appreciation Is Your Ultimate Key To Success (with John Ruhlin, author of Giftology)

Friends, today's episode is a conversation with one of my best friends, John Ruhlin, and I'm grateful to be able to share his story, and his strategies for "Radical Generosity" with you. This guy has taught me so much about appreciating others, personally and professionally, and his new book Giftology (and our podcast interview) give you the shortcut to gaining the wisdom that has taken him 20+ years to acquire. Publications like Forbes and INC Magazine have deemed him the world's leading expert in a topic that we can all learn more about – "Appreciation." You may not have even known that there was a study of gift-giving – What's there to study anyway, right? Giving gifts has become so automated in our culture that we have to remind ourselves to actually put thought into them, and even when we do, the thoughts often end up being more about ourselves than the recipient – we're good people, so what gives?? Like everything else in our lives, learning to give personalized, thoughtful gifts, is a practice, and you won't want to miss John's masterful insights about it. In this episode, you will… Realize why giving things away is the best way to 'get' what you seek! Understand how to make gifts about the recipient, rather than yourself Learn about radical generosity and how to incorporate it into your life and business! Hear how gift giving allows you to become a fixture in the recipient's mind Discover the amazing difference it makes in your life to show gratitude, often Tune in to learn how thoughtful giving can begin transforming your life, and the lives of the people you begin giving to. Being a Go-Giver | An Interview with Bob Burg

It is generally agreed upon that entrepreneurship is the engine that drives an economy upwards and is primarily responsible for its growth. However, one need not start one's own business in order to be an entrepreneur. You can be entrepreneurial within a company setting (often called "intrapreneurs") and you can lead from anywhere you happen to be positioned. Our guest today is Bob Burg, the bestselling author of one of my favorite books, The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea. He is an advocate for, as well as supporter and defender of, the Free Enterprise system. He believes that the amount of money one makes is directly proportional to how many people one serves. Bob is committed to inspiring the entrepreneurial spirit in all of us. In today's podcast, you'll discover: Why you needn't be an entrepreneur… to be entrepreneurial. Five Laws that will bring you both personal effectiveness and professional success. Why asking if something will make money isn't a bad question…it's just a bad "first question." One thing to absolutely AVOID doing when seeking out a mentor. Why being a "Go-Giver" is absolutely congruent with human nature. Tune in and go give 'em!
