67. What to do When You Have a Student Who Struggles With Reading

Today’s topic is one that I think will resonate with every reading teacher, and that is what to do when a student is struggling with reading. There are so many reasons for students to struggle with reading, whether it is their vocabulary, background knowledge, or blatant boredom. No matter what the reason is for your student’s challenges, I am going to help you help them with these tips I’m giving you today! During this episode I want you to really think about one of those struggling readers that are currently in your class or a student that you’ve taught in the past. In order for you to determine what aspect of reading they are struggling with, I am going to give you seven questions to identify those roadblocks that are preventing your student from becoming a successful reader. It is so important to figure out what that specific hurdle is so that you can provide the appropriate interventions accordingly. By asking these questions you can narrow down the area that they need more support and close that gap.
