Eleanor Pendleton on battling self doubt and finding her worth

(June 21, 2019) Eleanor Pendleton is intimidatingly beautiful, insanely cool and just to top it off, she’s really, really, lovely. She is the brainchild behind the beauty site and online magazine grittypretty.com and has build a cult following amongst beauty lovers. The site is dedicated to all things make up, skin care and hair. It’s a stunning site – make sure you check it out.Elle and I have has similar upbringings in terms of being raised in smaller towns by stay at home mum’s and stable families, but as we know, not everything is always smooth sailing in life. That’s what makes it beautiful. Elle shares her story on her rise to the top and the sacrifices she has had to make along the way to get there. What I love about Eleanor is that she is raw and honest and doesn’t hide behind anything shiny (except for maybe her immaculate skin!)– she is so real about what life looks like. It’s imperfect, it’s messy and she is very aware that everybody is fighting their own silent battles. She has fought her own battles, with confidence and self worth that she was so brave to talk about with me. I never take for granted the exchange that happens when I am chatting with someone. People’s stories are precious and I try to handle them all with care. Eleanor is no exception. She is insanely loveable, so very smart and has a determination to change the world for the better Here is Eleanor Pendleton for Tea with Jules the Podcast.Website: Gritty PrettyInstagram: @eleanorpendletonWelcome to Tea with Jules hosted by Jules Sebastian. Jaynie Johnson on raising a child with additional needs and letting love rule

(July 20, 2019) Mother of 3 beautiful children and Founder and Director of Blacklist Jaynie Johnson and her husband, Nate started the business 11 years ago and have built a loyal following in the creative space. I love their description of what they do - 'We create art. By dreamers, for dreamers.' Make sure you check out their work.I first met Janie a few years ago and I was struck by her calm and positive nature. She’s one of those people who seem to glow from the inside out. The more I got and get to know her, the more impressive she becomes – not only because she oozes coolness, but she has a strength and wisdom that is rare. When Jaynie and Nate became pregnant with their second child Dare, they were to discover at birth that he was born with down syndrome. I’ll leave it to Jaynie to tell the unfolding of life after Dare, but I think you will agree with me that this family know how to do family right. Their goal is to raise their kids to be resilient, kind and loving humans, to show them that anything is possible in life, no matter what the circumstance.Jaynie is an example that building a successful business along side raising a strong family unit is very possible. I want encourage anyone listening that knows somebody raising a child with additional needs, to pass this interview onto them. I know they will benefit from hearing Jaynie’s story. She is wise beyond her years, and has experienced first hand all the emotions that go hand in hand with living a very full life.  You will love Jaynie, she is a true light.  Here is Jaynie Johnson for Tea with Jules the Podcast.Nathan Johnson – @blackliststudioJaynie Johnson – @blackliststoreWelcome to Tea with Jules hosted by Jules Sebastian. Alex Perilli on faith, coming out and finding himself

(Aug. 3, 2019) My friend of over 3 decades, Alex Perilli joins me for this deeply connected conversation today. As some of you know about me, I grew up in a Pentecostal church in Adelaide. It’s a place that I hold very dear to me. It’s a place that helped mould me into the human I am today. The environment set me up with strong values and morals and a connection with God that I cherish and call upon daily. For me, it was a wonderfully positive experience where I made life long friends and even met my future husband! It is in this church that I met Alex. A life of the party, talented and all round awesome guy. He is magnetic, kind, thoughtful and fun. We were instant friends (albeit – we were 5!), and have remained close since then. Unbeknownst to myself and our close knit community of friends, Alex was in a battle we never saw – a struggle with his sexuality. His journey to get to this place of honesty was big, complicated and difficult. He is one of the best people I know, and him coming to share his story was one of the most emotional days I have had in the history of Tea with Jules.Just a side note – we talk about some heavy stuff in this chat, mostly about faith and sexuality – it might trigger someone listening or watching on, but stick with us. I truly believe that this will bring comfort and strength to anyone who might be experiencing something similar to Alex. If you are triggered and feel like you might need someone to talk to please do not hesitate to reach out for help. I’ll add some links in the show notes. You are never alone. This is my friend Alex Perilli for Tea with Jules the Podcast. If you are struggling and want to reach out, here are some great sites you can use.https://au.reachout.com/Welcome to Tea with Jules hosted by Jules Sebastian. Leane Flynn on living with ovarian cancer

(Nov. 22, 2019) I first heard Leane Flynn speak at 2 events I attended earlier this year. Her story sparked inside of me an urgency to get her message out as far and wide as I could, so I invited her for tea. I'm grateful she came to willingly deliver what I think is vital information to women everywhere.Leane was suddenly diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in April 2017. There were no obvious signs, no pain or convincing warnings that a large tumour was growing on each ovary and another tumour was growing between Leane’s diaphragm and liver. She had put her consistent bloating and frequent need to urinate down to menopause. After the appropriate surgery, she was diagnosed with Stage 3C advanced ovarian cancer. As a wife and mother of 3 daughters, her life was understandably turned upside down. She went through all of the emotions and the doctors recommendations for treatments, but the cancer has been relentless and has returned since her initial diagnosis and treatments. She continues to fight the good fight and encourage women to be aware of the signs their bodies may be giving them.To really grasp the understanding of some facts about ovarian cancer, I turned to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation website (www.ocrf.com.au) and included some of their helpful information around the disease.‘Raising awareness won’t save lives. In order to save the lives of Australian women, we need to first fund the innovative research that will find an early detection test, and then focus on widespread adoption.Currently, only 20–25% of women diagnosed with advanced-stage ovarian cancer will survive beyond five years. But with an early detection test, that would skyrocket to over 90%.Every year, an estimated 1,600 Australian women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The vast majority of these are at an advanced stage, as there is currently no early detection test, and symptoms are frequently misdiagnosed or not reported. The only way to definitively diagnose ovarian cancer is by taking a tissue sample during surgery. In Australia, one women dies every eight hours from ovarian cancer. Although tests and scans can show abnormalities, they cannot provide a diagnosis of ovarian cancer. The only way to currently confirm a diagnosis is by taking a biopsy during surgery and looking at the cells under a microscope.Ovarian cancer is the eighth most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian females, but the most lethal gynaecological cancer.Over 50% of the community incorrectly believes a Pap smear will diagnose ovarian cancer.’ The best way we can help as a community and individuals is to help fund research that will find an early detection test. As we have learned, raising awareness won’t save lives. Leane has put up her hand to be the voice of this horrific disease. Her mission, alongside www.ocrf.com.au is to see funds raised and for ovarian cancer to have early detection available for women.I hope you are as moved as I was by this chat with Leane – she was so generous in sharing her emotional journey, and I am forever grateful to her for this. This is Leane Flynn for Tea with Jules The PodcastFor the visuals that join this podcast you can visit the Jules Sebastian channel here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPRXmFFjSbMWelcome to Tea with Jules hosted by Jules Sebastian. Neale Whitaker on fighting fear, finding confidence and what he wants to be remembered for

(July 7, 2019) If the word ‘dashing’ could morph itself into human form-it would come the shape of Neale Whitaker. When you invite the former editor of Vogue Living and Belle Magazine, into your freshly built house, it comes with a mixture of sheer terror and equal amounts of curiosity for what his opinion might be. When he entered the kitchen I went into a minor meltdown about if we had put the dishwasher and the bin in the correct position in the kitchen! As we all know from Neale's legendary position as judge on The Block-these sorts of things can rob you of some costly points. Once I realised I wasn’t in fact on an episode of reality TV, but having one of the loveliest humans to grace the planet for a tea and a chat, I was put instantly at ease by Neal’s charm and charisma. His knack for interiors and style is unmatched but his deep level of thinking and firm grip on reality makes for beautiful conversation. We go deep on life matters and Neal reveals his truest heart. We talk about fighting fear, building and loosing confidence, the moment he realised he was gay and what he wants to remembered for. This chat got me good. I was blown away by Neal's wisdom, calm nature and his genuine want to impact others for the better.  He even offers some incredible relationship advice! I have been focusing on the subjects of  self worth, self confidence and what success means to people in this series of Tea with Jules. Everyone's answers have been very helpful to hear and Neal's thoughts are no exception. I will take what he said and apply them in my own life. I sincerely hope you love this chat as much as I did – both Neale and I didn’t want it to end – but he had to catch a flight – so I couldn’t let him miss that! It's a tear jerker - you've been warned!Welcome to Tea with Jules hosted by Jules Sebastian.
