Ben Higgs is the founder of The Rise Foundation. A foundation that exists to educate and teach the everyday practical tools we can use so people no longer have to suffer with mental illness or poor mental health.I have seen close up how serious mental health can be, so I do not treat this subject lightly. Neither does Ben. He sees his role to be an educational light to those suffering and those living with people suffering. Even though he has experienced his own battles, he does not think he is the poster child for mental health, nor does he want to be. He simply sees there are hurting people who need help to get through their days and has put up his hand to do what he can.With mental health becoming a subject we are increasing facing head on and many men and women are embracing their struggles openly and publicly, we are normalising issues that were once seen as a weakness. That is the point of this chat. To hit this head on. To gather as communities and rally together to see change. (Dec. 11, 2019) Angela Ceberano has been my friend for over a decade. We first met when my husband Guy signed to the music label BMG (later becoming Sony Music) after winning the very first Australian Idol!  Ange was his assigned publicist at the label.The first thing I noticed about Ange was her Hollywood actress looks and her kind nature. I was very new to the world of the public eye, so anybody who showed me genuine kindness and was down to earth, I clung to! We grew closer over the years and it has been a pleasure to watch Ange blossom into the business mogul she is today.With all her music industry and PR knowledge, she decided to start her own agency. She named it Flourish. She and her team handle huge clients on all things publicity and branding. She has also recently released her very own range of candles called Marco and Co. which she lovingly named after her beautiful horse Marco. As a busy entrepreneur and working woman, Ange has had her fair share of challenges. Earlier this year, her husband Phil and her went through a heart renching miscarriage. She was brave enough to share her thoughts and feelings around that in our chat. Running your own business, juggling staff, a marriage and all that goes in between has lead Ange to take some time to reflect, pause and really take head of what is important in life. Her mission is to inspire but to also encourage people to find a lifestyle that is right for them. This includes rest and doing things you love. She believes it feeds your soul and fuels your passions. (14 Feb 2019) Who are you when you are sitting in your true self?I first discovered Alison Rice through her podcast Offline. I was instantly hooked, then obsessed, then I stalked her down and demanded she had tea with me!  What I love about Alison, is her raw approach to self-discovery. Resigning from her high powered job in the digital space, she has taken some time to delve deeper into (her words!) exploring the often confronting concept of true self. Along for her ride are her wonderful guest who are women behind our favourite Instagram accounts. (July 20, 2019) Mother of 3 beautiful children and Founder and Director of Blacklist Jaynie Johnson and her husband, Nate started the business 11 years ago and have built a loyal following in the creative space. I love their description of what they do - 'We create art. By dreamers, for dreamers.' Make sure you check out their work.I first met Janie a few years ago and I was struck by her calm and positive nature. She’s one of those people who seem to glow from the inside out. The more I got and get to know her, the more impressive she becomes – not only because she oozes coolness, but she has a strength and wisdom that is rare. When Jaynie and Nate became pregnant with their second child Dare, they were to discover at birth that he was born with down syndrome. I’ll leave it to Jaynie to tell the unfolding of life after Dare, but I think you will agree with me that this family know how to do family right. Their goal is to raise their kids to be resilient, kind and loving humans, to show them that anything is possible in life, no matter what the circumstance.Jaynie is an example that building a successful business along side raising a strong family unit is very possible. I want encourage anyone listening that knows somebody raising a child with additional needs, to pass this interview onto them. I know they will benefit from hearing Jaynie’s story. (Aug. 10, 2019) The sweetest episode of Tea with Jules yet! I first met Katherine Sabbath when I was hosting an event for Pandora, and Katherine was commissioned to make the yummy desserts. We chatted, I loved her immediately, I ate the cake and that was it! Fwwends - awww!I was struck not only for her incredible talent for building cakes, but her genuine passion for it. I had a million questions for her (mostly things like, 'how do you work an oven?' and 'can I pretend to have made this cake, and bring it home to impress my children?'  so, I invited her for tea - and she brought CAKE!!Katherine is a colouful, insightful and thoughtful human. (June 28, 2019) Samantha Wills is one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of meeting. The first time I met her I was asked to style her for the cover of The Collective magazine. I was already a wreck with nerves come the day of shooting, but Samantha made the day so easy with her down to earth nature and cool, casual approach. Not to mention, the girl looks good in ANYTHING!Samantha is someone I have always wanted to have on Tea with Jules, and when I heard she was in town (she lives part time in New York city!), I jumped at the chance to gather her pearls of wisdom. She didn't disappoint.Samantha is an inspiration to not only budding entrepreneurs but any woman who wants to be brave in life and business. She explains that kindness and assertiveness can co-exist (yay!) and that authenticity and empathy makes a great leader. (Aug. 3, 2019) My friend of over 3 decades, Alex Perilli joins me for this deeply connected conversation today. As some of you know about me, I grew up in a Pentecostal church in Adelaide. It’s a place that I hold very dear to me. It’s a place that helped mould me into the human I am today. The environment set me up with strong values and morals and a connection with God that I cherish and call upon daily. For me, it was a wonderfully positive experience where I made life long friends and even met my future husband!It is in this church that I met Alex. A life of the party, talented and all round awesome guy. He is magnetic, kind, thoughtful and fun. We were instant friends (albeit – we were 5!), and have remained close since then. Unbeknownst to myself and our close knit community of friends, Alex was in a battle we never saw – a struggle with his sexuality.His journey to get to this place of honesty was big, complicated and difficult. He is one of the best people I know, and him coming to share his story was one of the most emotional days I have had in the history of Tea with Jules.Just a side note – we talk about some heavy stuff in this chat, mostly about faith and sexuality – it might trigger someone listening or watching on, but stick with us. I truly believe that this will bring comfort and strength to anyone who might be experiencing something similar to Alex.
