Practicing Street Epistemology by "campfire". Some of the videos on this channel, including this one, illustrate "Collaborative Street Epistemology", where other SEers ask the questions to friends/family members via Discord.
The interlocutor in this video is a family friend, Jean. She lives across the street and has been a good friend of the family for a number of years. For this Collaborative SE session, we had @SE After Dark (the Live session moderator) speak aloud during the down times so that she could communicate with the Discord audience the direction she wanted to see this conversation go. Then, the Discorders will typed their questions - which appear on the left side in this video, and the questions that she picked (based on relevance) will pop up on the right side of this video. Those are the questions that the Interviewer (me) asked Jean along the way.
Before we started, Jean chose to not be shown on camera, so her face is blurred. I asked her if she wanted to participate only 24 hours prior to this talk, and she knew nothing of SE. I did, however, tell her that strangers on the internet would be asking her questions about deeply held beliefs! In the end, she enjoyed the talk and was happy to have done it. As a general rule, I leave conversations intact, so as to not be accused of cutting out some important part of the IL’s belief… however, I cut out some of this talk, with Jean’s approval.
Perhaps one thing this session illustrates is an answer to the question “should SE always strive to gently challenge someone about their beliefs no matter what, or when there are times when people that are hanging onto deeply held beliefs mostly because it makes them feel better - should we back away so that the IL doesn’t risk being challenged too deeply on something that helps them get through their day or life?"
I think this talk illustrates a time when it’s best to not let the Socratic method interfere with a belief that makes someone feel better in certain situations. SKIP TO 40:09 TO SEE HOW THIS PLAYS OUT AT THE END OF THIS TALK.
Jean - Topic: A Convert has stronger faith/conviction than someone born into religion + 100% confidence that God exists.

Ep 371: Dialogue | Anthony Magnabosco | Cristina | Dependency (Anti-Natalist on Suicide)
Summary: Christina returns for a fourth talk where we initially set out to explore her antinatalist view that it is unethical to bring a person into the world without consent, but quickly explore her personal position on end-of-life options.
Watch video of talk here: https://youtu.be/LKF_-dFEv0c
Wikipedia': "Antinatalism, or anti-natalism, is a philosophical position and social movement that assigns a negative value to birth. Antinatalists argue that people should abstain from procreation because it is morally bad."
My first three talks with Cristina were in my view, inconsequential to this topic, and will likely never be uploaded. We are hoping to meet again soon on camera to revisit the morality of anti-natalism, as I regret not having spent more time on that.
Cristina and I worked out many of the details surrounding the release of this video and I hope she feels comfortable keeping our channel of communication open should she wish to talk again.

The goal of SE is not necessarily to change a belief, but to exercise and explore good reasoning for how we know what we know. Is it possible to resolve differences of belief without debate?
Are we open minded to the idea that we are close minded? What would it take to change our minds?
I am an amateur philosopher. I can be wrong about my beliefs and would be happy to discover that I am.
I encourage my viewers to consider this approach the next time we misunderstand or disagree with someone.
Please consider multiple examples of this Conversation style before making a final judgment about it.

What? Practicing “Street Epistemology" by campfire - speaking with folks about what they believe and why. HOWEVER, in this particular interview, we decided to allow other “Street Epistemologists” the opportunity to partake in the questioning via Discord social media application. This was the first known attempt at this method of “co-operative, group SE”. There was no rehearsal or prior knowledge regarding the specific topic. Lauren had watched only 1 of Anthony Magnabosco’s SE videos (“Martiza”) prior to this, and the Discorders listening had no idea what she would be discussing. #streetepistemology #groupSE #collabSE
Why? “Open-ended Socratic questioning is a highly effective and respectful way to address dogmatic beliefs supported by logical fallacies—without arguing or debate.” - Dr. Tyrone Wells.
Background: Lauren and I had gone years and even decades without having this discussion, or anything like it. My studying Street Epistemology opened the door for us to finally have this respectful talk that was LONG overdue. We are now closer than ever!
Lessons: Because of the amount of time it takes for the Discorders to type their questions after the “# next question” prompt, the flow of conversation was disrupted. (I therefore edited out this downtime for the sake creating a fluid video - the raw video was about 1H20M). HOWEVER, these downtimes allowed Lauren the opportunity to think deeply about the questions and her answers. This type of SE chat can probably only take place in a controlled environment for these reasons.
This group method proved to be an effective way to communicate with a close family member since I wasn’t the one asking most of the questions. I can imagine that it could be even more helpful with a family member that is less obliging, less open, or less intellectually honest.
Respect: It's possible that my interviewee will read the comments, so be respectful.
