Marion “Nan” Bascom: Love & Wisdom Straight from My Grandmother

How do you make ends meet when you're as poor as church mice? Today, we have a very special show for you. When I first started this show about 10 years ago now, I bought a cheap video camera and I decided to go to my grandmother Nan's house and interview her… she's just about my favorite person in the universe. And as many of you know, Nan's wisdom runs throughout my work—this podcast, of course, my blog with all recipes that we have, and especially The Wild Diet—you'll find lots of Nan in The Wild Diet. But who is Nan, anyway? Well, Marion Bascom, affectionately known as Nan, was a nurse, a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and a city girl who married my grandfather, Horace, a dairy farmer, and then took on the challenges of tending to an organic veggie garden, dairy farm and homestead while raising 7 children. After living for almost a century, Nan passed away this year at 97 years old. I'm very happy, though, to be able to share her wisdom with you here today, especially now. I didn't know exactly what I'd be doing with the interview with Nan all those years ago. She's technically going to be my first video interview on this show. It’s very cool, and I'm really happy to share it with you. We could all benefit from listening to some wisdom from a grandmother right now, don't you think? Get ready to smile, you're going to love this one. So in this conversation with my grandmother, Marion Bascom, we're chatting about: Incredible stories from raising 7 children on a farm with almost no money The low cost of food when you grow it yourself Family meals, gardening, canning and foraging for wild edibles behind the house What Nan did when she thought one of the kids was on drugs How to make homemade bread, ice cream, yogurt, jellies and pickles… she even made her own root beer Nan’s secret to a good long life And tons more… Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/marion-nan-bascom-love-wisdom-straight-from-my-grandmother/ Join The Wild Guild and get freebies on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/abeljames  Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/fatburningman  Follow me on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/fatburnman  Let's be friends on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fatburningman/ And click here for your free Fat-Burning Kit: http://fatburningman.com/bonus

Colin Stuckert: How to Counter Fragility & Take The Path of Most Resistance

Are we being mind controlled? What's wrong with a sterilized culture, where speaking out against the status quo gets you shadow-banned and censored across platforms? When free speech and free expression on all sides are egregiously squashed by unelected technocratic powers with zero accountability, it's clear someone is trying to influence or control the conversation. That's why it's more important than ever to do your homework and think for yourself, especially when your health is concerned. You have to take on that responsibility. And joining us today is the perfect guest to talk through some spicy and timely topics, our friend and fellow podcaster, writer and founder of Wild Foods, Colin Stuckert. We need all the good people we can get to make it through this circus with our health and sanity intact. Colin is doing great work and I'm honored that our messages and businesses are so aligned. Todd White: Biodynamic Wine, Bartering & Social Media Burnout

What's worth more? A $20 bill or a bottle of wine? In a pinch, I've realized real world pleasures like wine can be worth more than cold hard cash. With rising food inflation and obvious issues with our supply chains, it's a good time to make sure you're stocked up on provisions for whatever life throws at you. Which is why, even if you don't drink or you're not drinking right now, having a supply of high quality biodynamic natural wines can be a worthy alternative investment. (Hey there legal eagles, this is not investment advice.) When a friend recently turned down payment in the form of money—actually a couple of crisp $20 bills, he just would not take them—but he gladly accepted our bottle of wine. And that just reinforced the notion that having a diversity of items available to barter and trade could come in mighty handy in the future that we're facing. So returning to the show today is our very good friend, Todd White. Todd is a serial entrepreneur, writer, speaker, and founder of our all-time favorite supplier of natural biodynamic and organic wines, Dry Farm Wines. After 15 years in the wine business, Todd's life is dedicated to educating and helping people make better choices about food, nutrition and how they think about consuming alcohol. We're getting into some fun and interesting topics on today's show, including: How social interaction with friends, family and the community is a nutrient that we all need Daily practices like gratitude, meditation and fitness at home How to spread love and inspire each other, especially in workplace environments Social media and fake news burnout Why it's cool to barter with gifts from the land And tons more…   Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/todd-white-biodynamic-wine-bartering-social-media-burnout Check out and support Todd White, and try Dry Farm Wines yourself and get a bottle for just 1 penny: DryFarmWines.com/wild Join The Wild Guild and get freebies on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/abeljames  Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/fatburningman  Follow me on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/fatburnman  Let's be friends on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fatburningman/ And click here for your free Fat-Burning Kit: http://fatburningman.com/bonus
