S01 E96 - Roll of the Dice #2

We continue with the roll the dice to see what film we're going to see before we go back and put them in order, and finally...96 movies in, we get a good one 😁 But is it really just a "cliché". We discover the actor version of Andy, shockingly we cover off another high school movie (we might need to give Freud a call). We get into some hot water with fake news 😬 And we have a huge exposure of Woody's love life 😱 Kev is overly confident in the algo battle, there are some crazy 3-star reviews, what more could happen as we cover John Wick's prequel, join us at episode 96 for Grosse Pointe Blank.IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245429/@longplayvideolongplay.video

S01 E95 - Roll of the Dice #1

We crack the top 6 films this week where Freddie joins us as we try something a little different and roll the dice to see what film we're going to see before we go back and put them in order. As the roll is kind (?) to Freddie we discuss Andy's favourite actor that he's only seen in 1 this film, Kev's recent musical theatre background and remember Freddie's great singing from a previous episode. Freddie comes armed with an impressive one word response that Kev clearly is jealous of but give him some life changing advice, 'always sell out'. Join us for episode 95 as we watch Tick...Tick...Boom!

S01 E94 - #7 Brick

We’re up (down) to the last few films and the last noir (maybe) on the list. When Andy mentions the budget, Kev drops what could be the quote of season 1, saying he’s ‘Intrigued and slightly apprehensive’. We discuss if Clue is a noir like Big Sleep, will this film be like Clue and will we ever find out or all have died before we do!? We ask the big question for any teenager, 'where do you eat lunch?' Andy admits that this film often divides people he recommends it to and we get a glimpse of what 2006 Andy is like, totally different from 2005 Andy! Join us as we talk about, at number 7, Rian Johnson's, Brick.Quote: "I've got knives in my eyes. I'm going home sick"IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0393109@longplayvideolongplay.video

S01 E93 - #8 Interstellar

This week we complete science by watching what Andy confidently calls the most impressive film of the 21st Century. Carla (or is it Michael Caine) joins us again to ask just how many science people they need to make this film (the answer is 3) and Kev talks about how little he likes space stuff, without getting too technical! Whilst talking about the cameo, Kev reveals he definitely doesn’t remember this film and Carla and Kev use exactly the same one word response for number 8 on the list, Interstellar!Quote: "Everybody good...plenty of slaves for my robot colony"IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0816692@longplayvideolongplay.video

S01 E92 - #9 The Royal Tenenbaums

This week we answer the question that has come up most in the shop over the last 94 weeks, where’s the Wes Anderson film on the list? Andy feels an Andy film and a Wes film is comparable (bold), we preview where The Garfield film will fit into the seasons and discuss if this is a top 3 performance by every actor in it. At number 9 on the list it’s The Royal Tenenbaums.Quote: "Anybody interested in grabbing a couple of burgers and hitting the cemetery?"IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0265666/@longplayvideolongplay.video

S01 E91 - #10 Ferris Bueller's Day Off

This week we ask the big questions the world is facing, like do teenagers still put posters up on their walls? We witness a great economics lecture from 1986 talking about how tarrifs don’t work but it is a bit boring so no one pays any attention to it. We discuss what happened to Matthew Broderick’s career trajectory without doing simple research on him that would have explained a lot and wonder if Kev would have ended up hating him as much if he went on to have Tom Hanks’ career. A much beloved 80s classic, cracking the top ten at number 10 is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.Quote: Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it"IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091042/@longplayvideolongplay.video

S01 E90 - #11 Star Wars

"This week Poppy quickly proves she's the Jedi master. We get to the bottom of the real question: Why is Luke so whiny?Poppy questions why she isn't on a podcast designed for her, Rob is forced into an impromptu pop quiz that could destroy his credibility forever, and we try to figure out once and for all....are the Sand People secretly planning something?Plus, we've got some hilarious three-star reviews, a completely random tangent about the film Backdraft, and a debate over the top film in the original trilogy. At number 11, join us for Star Wars: A New Hope"Quote:"Whos the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?"IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076759/@longplayvideolongplay.video

S01 - Bonus Episode

It's bonus episode time! In a truly wild start, Andy kicks things off by telling us exactly why he doesn't like this film. 😲 Can this film even make it into the top 100? As we talk through all the twists and turns, we introduce some major spoilers for our season 2 rankings and see if Edgar Wright can complete the trio to claim Kev's top 3 spot. We make the obvious comparisons between this, Happy Gilmore 2, Wes Anderson, and Chef (don't ask). So what can this film be? Well, as we discuss, it's obviously a remake of Point Break. Join us for the bonus everyone was asking for Baby Driver 🎬

S01 E89 - #12 The Big Sleep

This week in the shop, we go digging through the dust — all the way back to 1946. The war was over, the drinks were stiff, and the men had faces like crumpled maps. We're talking about a film, where the plot’s a maze, the dames are dangerous, and nobody says what they mean unless it’s with a gun.We ask the real questions: Did people really age that badly, or did everyone just look like they'd already buried a few secrets? Did we give noir the cold shoulder too fast… or was it just that one Robert Downey Jr. mess that soured the bottle?Natalie’s back — sharper than a stiletto in a silk stocking — drawing a straight line from this flick to The Empire Strikes Back. Same writer, same trouble. Her whole family showed up to the shop this week, turning movie night into a full-blown reunion with shadows on the wall.Kev confesses he's never seen a film from the '40s. Never knew black-and-white could bleed so much. Andy’s got his own skeleton to drag out: this one used to be number one on the list. Now it's parked at twelve, but maybe that's just the way things shake out in a town full of bad luck and worse lighting. At number 12, The Big Sleep. It's not just the title. It's a warning.

S01 E88 - #13 The Matrix

This week in the shop we question if we’re really in a shop and if we aren’t, why’s the internet so bad? We travel back to 1999 or is it 2199, either way there’s a lot to say! We wonder if it’s time for this film to be reconsidered as more of a classic than it is and discuss how sequels can impact the memories of the original film, even when no one has memories of the sequels. Kev has no hesitation saying he wants to live in the Matrix up until he hears it might be a bit like living in Instagram…Andy just wants BT to send a man, to fix his f*****g broadband. At #13 on the list, we watch The Matrix!Quote: "Stop trying to hit me....and hit me"IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/@longplayvideolongplay.video
