EP 188: The Present is Your Present ~ Finding Magic in Recovery this Holiday Season | ED🎄Recovery Guide
Ekkk Happy Christmas Eve!!!
I hope your week is starting off great as we all patiently wait for the big guy to come down the chimney! I wanted to drop a brand new pod episode into your inbox for you to listen to while you finish your gift wrapping and last minute "to-do's".
In Episode 188, I share THE BEST gift you can give yourself and others this Christmas and how you can find magic in recovery this holiday.
~
So yesterday I was at Santa with my boys and it hit me. While everyone around us was rushing, stressed about perfect pictures and checking their phones, my kids were just Present.
It was like time stood still to them. They were living in the pure magic of the moment as they waited in line to see Santa. And it got me thinking about how often we miss these precious moments. My kids are 6 and 10 and I look at it as a very pivotal year because I am hanging on to my 10 year old with the expectation that he's always going to want to stand in that line.
And the reality sis, is I know that we're on the last leg of moments like that one. How about your reality? Well when you're struggling with an eating disorder, it literally sucks all the good moments from your life. So many moments are missed because you are caught up in those eating disorder thoughts.
So many moments I missed. And so I wanted to bring you this episode today not to be a negative Scrooge. But actually quite the opposite.
It's time to take a stand against spending ONE more Christmas at war with your body! No more giving your best gift away for a false sense of control. And that gift, friend? TIME.
~
The boys and I went to a family gathering last night after Santa, one that in past years would have sent me into a tailspin. I mean, yes, it was the kind with all the festive dishes, a charcuterie board, espresso martinis, all the tasty festive treats, enter the cookies, the brownies, the shortbread...there was banana pudding. It was amazing!
And while my recovered-self enjoyed every bite of nourishment. I couldn't help but realize just how fast time flies. I questioned myself, "do I live here in all the right now moments? Or am I living back there and how it used to be or fast forward to what hasn't even arrived yet?"
I don't know about you, but I want to remember all these moments that I have left, all of them.
It's so important to really get real and present with ourselves. And that's what I wanted to do was to question your current state. If you are feeling drained, overwhelmed, and maybe the holidays are just not your thing because of past traumas, or because of the eating disorder or because of lost loved ones. I totally get that, but there is still something so magical about this time of year.
Here's the thing. The magic of recovery, just like the magic of Christmas, it happens in the NOW. It happens in the present. And it happens when we choose to be here, even when it's super, super uncomfortable.
So my hope for your this holiday is that you LIVE in the PRESENT and make a commitment to your future self to get the help and support you need to combat your eating disorder.
With so much love and recovery hugs,
lindsey

EP 187.5: Do You REALLY Want to Recover from Your Eating Disorder? | The Pain of Recovery vs. The Pain of Staying Sick⚖️
Hey there girl!
Can you believe we are falalalala-ing all the way into a brand new year in a matter of weeks?
I always find myself at the end of a year thinking about the things that I clung to, & the not so good things that clung to me. & I wonder how I can make the next one even better.
Sadly, I used to wonder how I was going to exercise away Christmas food choices, avoid weight gain & get back to a rigid routine as soon as the clock struck midnight. So much so, that I became completely chained to my eating disorder.
~
If your lifestyle requires you to track, monitor & count every food morsel, carb, calorie, or pound on the scale.....then ask yourself -> are you really living?
I know one thing is for sure...freedom from disordered eating is REAL, because I myself have escaped her chains. I myself broke the patterns of unhealthy diets, restrictions & behaviors that year after year kept me trapped in my own mind & body.
And, YOU can too!
In Episode 187.5, I share all about ambivalence in recovery & I talk about the path of pain.
Tune in to the show today sis! It's a goodie!
Plus, I'd be honored if you shared this one with someone you love that may struggle with disordered eating & could use a positive dose of inspo leading up to the holiday.

EP 186: Recovery Portions Made Simple! Break Free From Food Anxiety & Portion Distortion Using the “Dollop Method”
Hey girl, welcome back to the Her Best Self world! On the podcast today, I'm talking about how you can nourish your body when maybe you have portion anxiety or a fear around weight gain and so you simply don't know what portions to have.
Do you find yourself asking these questions?
"Am I eating too much? Am I eating too little?" If so, Episode 186 is New and just for you!
I hope that your week is starting off strong, sis, just as you keep getting stronger in the truth and more grounded in the reality that you are no longer hanging out with this wannabe friend, the eating disorder.
She isn't coming with you in 2025~
Which brings me to reflect on 2024 and I just wanted to share my gratitude with you for reading my emails, listening to the show...all the things.
I am honored to hold your hand as you recover!
Did you know, when you become a client with HBS Co., I have this board that I put your name on and that's for all clients, whether you're a current client, whether you're a past client, whether you're one of my coaching clients to become a coach, to help other clients, like It doesn't matter. Your name goes on the board. And typically when I'm recording the show, I look at that board.
I have it right next to me because it is a constant reminder of the lives. The change that happens when you step forward, raise your hand and make a commitment to do something differently....with support!
Sis, if you've sought out help. And whether that's me as your coach or another coach that you are also listening to, I want you to know I'm proud of you. It takes a courageous person to step out in faith, scared to death and realize they don't want this for their life anymore. And so I see you, I continue to look up at that board and just relish and the names that are there.
I mean, it is wild. I love it because it is a constant grounding reminder of the work that happens when you invest in yourself and step into truth.
Here is truth for your Tuesday: Freedom is possible for you. And this fear of what if I can't stop eating? Well, I want to pull up a seat at your table friend and love on you because I lived in this exact terrifying reality.
Here comes the tough Lindsey love: Nothing changes, sis, if nothing changes.
Everything that you are doing in your life right now is a result of actions and beliefs that you have put on up to this point. In order to see a change, you're going to have to change and you're going to have to do something differently.
You're going to have to take action. And in my own personal recovery, I remember being in this exact spot and not really knowing how or what to do next. I knew I couldn't trust myself, but not really knowing who to trust.
And so I want to invite you today. If you're looking for support, please don't do this another year by yourself. Fill out a client application BEFORE our 2025 rates kick in and let's connect!

EP 185: Breaking Down Recovery Myths ~ Masterclass Must-Know Moments + What TRUE Freedom Really Feels Like ⛓️💥
Hey girl, it's a great today to have a great day!
Today I have a special treat for you. I have been getting questions in my inbox about the masterclass that we recently did in November, where I shared all about the common misconceptions of eating disorder recovery and what you can do right now today if you're struggling with disordered eating.
I had so much fun in that masterclass that I just wanted to bring a couple of bits and pieces of that class and that experience to you in case maybe you wanted to attend and you were unable to attend, or maybe you're new here and you knew nothing about it.
(We will be doing an upcoming masterclass very soon in the new year, but until then, I'm going to share with you some highlights from the masterclass that I feel like you can use right now.)
Episode 185 is going to help you end the year strong and start a new year even stronger.
Let's dive in!

EP 184.5: The #1 Mistake You're Making in ED Recovery (& 2 Simple Strategies to Help You Fix It) **FAV ALERT!
Hey sis, oh my gosh, have we made it? Have we arrived? Is everyone in one piece?
I feel like the days and weeks up to the holiday can be treacherous. Am I the only one? I just feel like the 'to-do' list never ends and everyone's running around like crazy pants. I'm just over here trying to be Mama Elf without forgetting to move the Elf on the Shelf after putting the boys to bed. LOL
Anyways, let's dive in to today's show. I'm talking all about that huge mistake that you're most likely making right now as you battle this unhealthy relationship with food and your body. And I'm going to give you two strategies that you can implement today that are going to help you overcome and actually get to freedom.
If you're always looking for 'the thing' that is going to set you free and you just don't understand why this feels so hard for you...Then today's podcast episode is FOR YOU SIS!
One of the biggest mistakes that I see in coaching countless of women in recovery, (including my own self and my own recovery journey) is you get to a point of functioning, but you're struggling so much and you're like, "is this it?"
"Is this as good as it gets?"
ALERT ->This ISN'T IT for you sweet friend! And today I wanted to shout into your ear that your dream is achievable. There is more for you. You haven't arrived yet, and that's okay. I want you to know you're okay, you're here, I see you, you're right where you need to be. And if you're always looking for the next thing, then you're most likely doing it wrong from the start. (And I say that with so much love because I did it wrong for so very long.)
The struggle is certainly real, but in order to build a battle plan for your recovery, you need to let go of it needing to look a certain way.
I'm going to say that one again for you. To build a battle plan for the blueprint of your recovery, you need to let go of it looking a certain way.
~
Tune in to this one girl & share it with a friend!
I hope it inspires you & encourages you to step out with courage, as you challenge yourself this holiday season to stop settling & start thriving!
Let's go!

EP 184: Hope for the Exhausted Perfectionist -> Your Brain Can Change! Here Is the Science Behind Your Struggle
Hey sis,
How has your week gone? I don't know about you but I am exhausted...yet not the same level of exhaustion that I use to operate at when I was stuck in the destructive cycle of an eating disorder. But I share this with you because maybe you have been trying to do everything "perfect" this season, yet you feel like you've failed. Sis, the cost of perfection left me perfectly exhausted. It left me stuck in the messy middle of anorexia.
~
Society will tell you to be thin, but not too thin. Be confident, but not overly confident. And be successful, but not too successful.
If you're with me and you experience the pressure to be perfect, this is a perfect paradox and it is time to dump the impossible standards that are destroying your mental health, linked directly to eating disorder behaviors, and it's time to stand in your truth.
In Episode 184, I share scientific research about the cost of perfection and what you can do about it as you step into the best you in the upcoming year.
I'm so excited for your listen of today's show.
I truly believe it's going to CHANGE the way you show up for yourself.
xo,
lindsey

EP 183.5: Stop Comparing, Start Living! 6 Keys to Recovery Freedom That Will Have You Scrolling Instagram Less, While Loving You More
Happy Tuesday sis!
I hope you are enjoying the pre-Thanksgiving vibes & hopefully you are getting ready for turkey day! I am all over the place as I LOVE this time of year, but to be fair your girl needs more TIME in the next few days....so I'm playing one of the most favorite episodes on the Her Best Self Pod today. My hope is this will hit you right where you need it. I just know it will change the way you experience your holiday this week.
~
Have you ever caught yourself scrolling through social media, feeling like everyone else has it all figured out? Like somehow you're the only one still struggling?
Today, we're breaking down the science of comparison, perfectionism, and most importantly – the six research-backed strategies that can help you break free.
The first step to self-acceptance is to STOP unhealthy comparison.
As humans we are going to compare ourselves to others. It is in our nature to watch others. This is how we learn. But, if we look long enough, we will find someone who has done more, who has more & who seems to have it all together.
In the eating disorder world, comparing your journey to someone else's does NOTHING but rob your TRUTH.
In today's show, I discuss 6 strategies to help you stop the comparisonitis, so that you can start showing up & comparing you vs. you.
You have so much to give to the world.
When you are captivated with purpose, you won't be stuck in comparison.
Do you need a break-up with social media, so you can experience a breakthrough in your recovery?!
If so, this could be your saving grace.
I am so happy to have you here!
Here is your reminder today if you struggle with comparing yourself to others: "You are God's Masterpiece, & He has created you a new in Jesus, which He prepared in advance for you to do!" ~Ephesians 2:10
Friend, stop keeping yourself from your best self. Stop looking around & start looking UP!
If you enjoy this episode, let me know!
& if you need more support reach out directly @info@lindseynichol.com & ask for your complimentary consult following the submission of your client application.
with love & purpose,
lindsey

We have arrived. Actually, I secretly wish I could sleep the day away because my bed is cozy & even though I do enjoy this time of year there is just SO MUCH To DO! Speaking of which, are you ready for turkey day? I will be showing up at my in-laws pies in hand & ready to enjoy all the holiday brings. However, this wasn't always the case for me. For a decade I spent my life dreading this holiday. I would legit fantasize about how I could get out of being around "all that food" & even around my family, who I thought was watching me with each bite. Are you feeling this way?
You don't have to sit in this mess & let it become who you are and that be it.
This is just a speed bump.
This is just a blimp in your journey here.
If you are a loved one of someone who struggles with an eating disorder and you are unsure of what to do next, you don't have to have it all figured out, but it is important to get as educated as possible so you can help support your person.
In Episode 183, I'm going to be talking about boundaries & what to do when your family just doesn't understand.
~
Boundaries are a better you, & in order to be the BEST version of you, you have to put some boundaries in place. It's so important.
If you struggle with disordered eating, it's vital that you understand in some form or fashion that it affects and hurts every person close to you in your life. Yes, this is an isolating disease, but it echoes to everyone around you.
It's like a domino. It just dominoes over & you can be in your own feels & you can think that it's not harming people that are in your circle.
But if you don't have energy, you're snapping at your kids.
If you don't have energy, you're nasty to your husband.
If you aren't nourishing yourself or eating properly, you're not honoring yourself and therefore you're not giving your best version to everyone else.
My goal today is that this helps you as you head into the holidays & that it encourages you to keep walking along your path to freedom.
I believe in you sis!
sending all the recovery hugs,
lindsey
