The Gnosis of Gurdjieff Part 2

In part two of our conversation with Richard Hodges of the Gurdjieff Foundation, we talk about Gurdjieff’s teachings on the development of the soul and the many “I’s” that a person identifies with. We delve into some of the origins of Gurdjieff’s thought, and we explore the Gurdjieffian view of the body, the essence, and the personality. The Gnosis of Gurdjieff Part 1

In this episode we are joined by Richard Hodges of the Gurdjieff Foundation to talk about 20th century Russian Mystic G. I. Gurdjieff. We discuss Gurdjieff’s background and his travels, his system, sometime called “The Work” or “The Fourth Way.” Gurdjieff taught many interesting and esoteric concepts, including that of “waking sleep,” which we go into, and also the benefits of doing The Work in groups. https://archive.org/download/TalkGnosisGnosisOfGurdjieffPart1/Talk%20Gnosis%20Gnosis%20of%20Gurdjieff%20Part%201.mp3 Special thanks to Bishop Lainie Petersen for filling in as co-host! Bodily Gnosis Part 4

The fourth and final part of our talk with Bishop Timothy Mansfield about bodily Gnosis delves into some esoteric anatomy and some spiritual practices that relate to it. Where do the emotions actually reside? How do we experience the emotions energetically? And we put to bed the discussion of reincarnation once and for all. https://archive.org/download/TalkGnosisBodilyGnosisPart4/Talk%20Gnosis%20Bodily%20Gnosis%20Part%204.mp3 Subscribe to the video on YouTube | Subscribe to the podcast via RSS | Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes | Subscribe to the podcast on Stitcher Start with part 1: https://gnosticwisdom.net/bodily-gnosis-part-1/ Part 2: https://gnosticwisdom.net/bodily-gnosis-part-2/ Part 3: https://gnosticwisdom.net/bodily-gnosis-part-3/ The opinions expressed in this show do not necessarily reflect those of the Gnostic Wisdom Network, the Apostolic Johannite Church, or any other organization. Bodily Gnosis Part 3

Part 3 of 4 of our bodily Gnosis conversation with Bishop Timothy Mansfield crosses the thin barrier between psychology and spirituality, addressing the very real problem of spiritual materialism, or how people use the trappings of spirituality to stroke their egos. We give some suggestions for some spiritual practices you can do with the body in mind, and we wrap things up with a discussion on queer issues in Gnosticism. https://archive.org/download/TalkGnosisBodilyGnosisPart3/Talk%20Gnosis%20Bodily%20Gnosis%20Part%203.mp3 Subscribe to the video on YouTube | Subscribe to the podcast via RSS | Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes | Subscribe to the podcast on Stitcher Start with part 1: https://gnosticwisdom.net/bodily-gnosis-part-1/ Part 2: https://gnosticwisdom.net/bodily-gnosis-part-2/ Part 4: https://gnosticwisdom.net/bodily-gnosis-part-4/ The opinions expressed in this show do not necessarily reflect those of the Gnostic Wisdom Network, the Apostolic Johannite Church, or any other organization. Bodily Gnosis Part 2

Part 2 of 4 finds us once again with Bishop Timothy Mansfield of the Apostolic Johannite Church discussing some bodily Gnosis. How do awareness and meditation techniques apply to the body? How did a 17th century fringe Christian theology called Jansenism have a profound impact on the development of world religions? The body and the passions are blamed for a lot wrong with the world, but are we really meatbag automata incapable of controlling our thoughts and actions? How can asceticism help us to grow spiritually? https://archive.org/download/TalkGnosisBodilyGnosisPart2_201608/Talk%20Gnosis%20Bodily%20Gnosis%20Part%202.mp3 Subscribe to the video on YouTube | Subscribe to the podcast via RSS | Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes | Subscribe to the podcast on Stitcher Watch part 1: https://gnosticwisdom.net/bodily-gnosis-part-1/ Part 3 coming August 16th The opinions expressed in this show do not necessarily reflect those of the Gnostic Wisdom Network, the Apostolic Johannite Church, or any other organization. Bodily Gnosis Part 1

In part one of our four part conversation about bodily Gnosis with Bishop Timothy Mansfield we compare the concepts of the body, the mind, the self, the brain, the heart, the soul, and the spirit. Phew! What a complex topic. We discuss these subjects through the lenses of Gnosticism, the kabbalah, and eastern religions. How did the ancient Gnostics view the body and the material world? What were the Valentinians really talking about when they divided humanity up into three types? Then we close things out by exploring how the body and the mind experience meditation, and how to use that knowledge to enhance your spiritual practices. https://gnosticwisdom.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Talk-Gnosis-Bodily-Gnosis-Part-1.mp3 Subscribe to the video on YouTube | Subscribe to the podcast via RSS | Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes | Subscribe to the podcast on Stitcher Or download the audio here: Bodily Gnosis Part 1 Part 2 coming August 9th The opinions expressed in this show do not necessarily reflect those of the Gnostic Wisdom Network, the Apostolic Johannite Church, or any other organization. Meet the Host: Jonathan Stewart – Podcast

Rev. Mr. Jonathan Stewart has been the host of the show for a while now, but we’ve never really heard his story. Well in this episode we remedy this and talk to Jonathan about his story, his views on Gnosticism and Buddhism, and his spiritual practices. https://archive.org/download/TalkGnosisMeetTheHostJonathanStewart/Talk%20Gnosis%20Meet%20the%20Host%20-%20Jonathan%20Stewart.mp3 Subscribe to the video on YouTube | Subscribe to the podcast via RSS | Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes | Subscribe to the podcast on Stitcher The opinions expressed in this show do not necessarily reflect those of the Gnostic Wisdom Network, the Apostolic Johannite Church, or any other organization. Special thanks to Dan Silvia and Chelmsford TeleMedia http://chelmsfordtv.org/ The Apostolic Johannite Church is an esoteric, Gnostic, Christian community. Many of us seek a real spiritual community which is loving, inclusive, spiritually lively and empowering of people of all genders, races and sexualities, both rich and poor. The Johannite tradition represents just such a community: founded by Saint John the beloved disciple of Jesus, rooted in the tradition of John the Baptist and guided by direct, experiential contact with the Divine, this tradition encourages personal responsibility and freedom of thought and practice. The Gospel of Mary Part 3

We finish up our discussion with Clark Aitkins about the Gospel of Mary with some thoughts on the nature of sin and the passions, what the Greek philosophers thought of the early Christians and Gnostics, and how we can apply the lessons of the Gospel of Mary to our lives. https://archive.org/download/TalkGnosisTheGospelOfMaryPart3/Talk%20Gnosis%20The%20Gospel%20of%20Mary%20Part%203.mp3 Subscribe to the video on YouTube | Subscribe to the podcast via RSS | Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes | Subscribe to the podcast on Stitcher Or download the audio here: The Gospel of Mary Part 3 Part 1: https://gnosticwisdom.net/the-gospel-of-mary-part-1/ Part 2: https://gnosticwisdom.net/the-gospel-of-mary-part-2/ The opinions expressed in this show do not necessarily reflect those of the Gnostic Wisdom Network, the Apostolic Johannite Church, or any other organization. The Gospel of Mary Part 2

Our conversation with Clark Aitkins continues, and the Gospel of Mary just gets more and more interesting. What instructions does the Gospel give? Is this a feminist document? Can we have a soul ascent as modern Gnostics? How does this document relate to Jewish mysticism? How doe the ancient view of the afterlife affect the development of Gnosticism? https://archive.org/download/TalkGnosisTheGospelOfMaryPart2/Talk%20Gnosis%20The%20Gospel%20of%20Mary%20Part%202.mp3 Subscribe to the video on YouTube | Subscribe to the podcast via RSS | Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes | Subscribe to the podcast on Stitcher Or download the audio here: The Gospel of Mary Part 2 Part 1: https://gnosticwisdom.net/the-gospel-of-mary-part-1/ Stay tuned for Part 3, coming July 19th The opinions expressed in this show do not necessarily reflect those of the Gnostic Wisdom Network, the Apostolic Johannite Church, or any other organization.
