Chaos Monk w/ Steve Dee

Monastic practice is powerful and transformative but we can’t all quit our life for the cloisters. That’s why Steve Dee is back on the show to tell us about his new book “Chaos Monk: Bringing Magical Creativity to the New Monastic Path” which deals with bringing the spirituality of the monastery into our day-to-day spiritual lives. And if you think this is going to be staid, Steve is influenced by both the renownedly wild Chaos Magick tradition, Gnosticism, and other powerful and “alternative” currents. You ask the questions about Gnosticism and we do our best to answer them. Bishop Tim Mansfield joins Deacon Jon and Jason to give our Gnosis and speculation and thoughts on questions submitted by you, the audience. Profound questions are asked and we go long but I feel like there’s something in this ep that everyone will love and something everyone will hate and each of those things will be different for every listener. This one goes deep and we talk a lot about trauma and abuse at the end of the ep so here’s a few resources for any one going through similar situations or knows someone close to them who is: Take your ACE Test https://www.verywellmind.com/what-is-complex-ptsd-2797491 https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/low-cost-or-free-mental-health-services [https://ia902501.us.archive.org/4/items/gnostic-questions/Gnostic%20Questions.mp3] —————– Become a patron: http://patreon.com/gnostic

Gnosticism Hiding in Medieval Poetry & Literature w/ Natanela Elias

Rather than being a quirky religion from almost 2000 years ago, Gnosticism weaves its self through Western culture and history, sometimes hiding, sometimes prevalent. In her book “The Gnostic Paradigm,” Natanela Elias uncovers gnostic undercurrents in the literature of late medieval England—and she’s our guest and guide as we examine the mystical knowledge hiding in some of the most renown English literature of the Middle Ages. The Gospel of Judas w/ Dr. David Brakke

For more than 2000 years, Judas Iscariot has been THE villain and betrayer. So you can guess interpreting this text isn’t easy so that’s why we’re joined by Dr. David Brakke who has a new book “The Gospel of Judas: A New Translation with Introduction and Commentary” and serves as our guide to this fascinating Gospel. The Cathars: History, Myth, Or….? w/ Dr. Justin Sledge

The Cathars were medieval dualists who lived in what’s now Southern France/Northern Italy and created an alternative parallel Gnostic church of peace and light until they were wiped out by crusade and inquisition… um…right…? The Cathars have captured the imaginations of artists and storytellers for millennia but but BUT *some* scholars now believe that much of what is said about the Cathars is myth, in fact maybe they were made up by heresy hunters! To explain this debate and to take us through the topic of the Cathars we’re joined once again by Dr. Justin Sledge of Esoterica! Check out Dr. Sledge’s channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/ESOTERICAchannel Hit up his vids on the Cathars: https://www.youtube.com/c/ESOTERICAchannel/search?query=cathar [audiosrc=https://ia601402.us.archive.org/0/items/the-cathars-justin-sledge/The%20Cathars%20Justin%20Sledge.mp3] —————– Become a patron: http://patreon.com/gnostic

Johannite Gnostic Tradition & Fabré-Palaprat w/ Bishop Shaun McCann, Pt 1

In the early 1800s in Paris, the physician Bernard-Raymond Fabré-Palaprat discovered (or claimed to discover, or was led to believe he discovered) a secret Gnostic tradition that stretched back in time to the medieval Templars and then even further back to John the Baptist, Jesus, and John the Evangelist. To talk to us about both Palaprat and the Johannite tradition we’re joined by Bishop Shaun McCann, Patriarch of the Apostolic Johannite Church and…hey that’s the church that sponsors this show! And the one that Jon and Jason are in!! And that’s why this is a great ep as the Bishop Shaun, with the help of Jason’s penetrating questions, illustrates why this tradition is a living reality and why a French heretic doctor still matters 200 years later. This is part 1 of 2 and we’re hoping to do more on the topic…. The Gnosis of Georges Bataille w/ Emmalea Russo & Nic Laccetti

Georges Bataille (1897–1962) was a French philosopher, author, surrealist, poet, writer of erotica, sociologist, a master of transgression and filth, a founder of a secret society, and a mystic…well a mystic of some sort…you’ll see…and a whole lot of other things! To get a handle on this unique thinker, one who associated some of his own thinking with the ancient Gnostics, we have returning guests Emmalea Russo and Nic Laccetti. Read Bataille’s “Gnosticism & Base Materialism” in this collection of some of his work here (essay 13): https://ia801603.us.archive.org/17/items/BatailleTheBatailleReader/Bataille%20-%20The%20Bataille%20Reader.pdf Take Emmalea’s Fall 2022 Bataille course at the Global Centre for Advanced Study: https://gcas.ie/ Hit up Nic’s blog at: https://thelightinvisible.org/ [audiosrc=https://ia902501.us.archive.org/32/items/george-bataille/George%20Bataille.mp3] —————– Become a patron: http://patreon.com/gnostic
