Anthony R. Reibel - Beyond PLC Lite: Evidence-Based Teaching and Learning in a Professional Learning Community at Work. This is episode 699 of Teaching Learning Leading K12, an audio podcast. Anthony R. Reibel, EdD, is the director of research and evaluation at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois. In 2006, he became a Spanish teacher at Stevenson, where he served as a curricular team leader, core team leader, coach, and club sponsor. In 2010, Anthony received recognition from the state of Illinois, and in 2011, Illinois Computing Educators named him Technology Educator of the Year. He currently sponsors two clubs: (1) KIVA, which gives microloans to entrepreneurs living in areas lacking financial institutions, and (2) FIRE, which promotes equality and respect among Stevenson students and staff through conversation and advocacy in school and throughout the community. Anthony is the author and coauthor of seven books on education. Some titles include Embracing Relational Teaching: How Strong Relationships Promote Student Self-Regulation and Efficacy; Small Changes, Big Impact: Ten Strategies to Promote Student Efficacy and Lifelong Learning; Proficiency-Based Assessment: Process, Not Product; and Pathways to Proficiency: Implementing Evidence-Based Grading. Each of these explores the relationship among student efficacy, pedagogy, and learning. Anthony is also the publisher and chief editor of The Assessor(www.assessormag.com) a publication that features short articles written by teachers and administrators to support conversation about formative assessment. Anthony completed his doctorate, which studied the effects of cognitive bias on teachers’ evaluation of student performance, at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Kevin Benson serves as Executive Director for Cooperative Purchasing Agency (CPA) and the Southern Education Retirement Consortium (SERC). In his CPA role, Kevin oversees a warehouse that provides office supplies, janitorial supplies, furniture, and USDA commodities, directly to 35 school systems in North Georgia.  Kevin also provides all school systems in Georgia access to national contracts through the Association of Educational Purchasing Agencies (AEPA).  Most recently, Kevin created the Southern Education Retirement Consortium (SERC).  In this role, Kevin strives to provide school systems and their employees, regardless of size, with unprecedented pricing, oversite, and control in the 403b and 457 markets. Kevin has been an educator for over 25 years as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and safety director. Kevin began his tenure at CPA in 2017 and has increased yearly profits tenfold. In 2021 Kevin won the AEPA Outstanding Sales Growth Award with a 745% increase in sales.  Kevin has a Bachelor of Science from Kennesaw State University, a master's in education from the University of Georgia, and an Educational Specialist degree from Liberty University.   A little about Danny Kofke After being an elementary school teacher for 18 years, Danny Kofke recently left the classroom to work with Mentoro - a financial education company.  His love of teaching and personal finance led him to write five personal finance books including The Wealthy Teacher: Lessons for Prospering on A School Teacher’s Salary. Danny’s everyday approach to handling money has led him to appear on numerous television shows including Fox & Friends, The CBS Early Show, CNN’s Newsroom, the 700 Club and The Clark Howard Show.  He has also been interviewed on over 600 radio shows and featured in a number of publications including USA Today, Yahoo.com, The Wall Street Journal, Money Magazine and The Atlanta Journal Constitution.  He wants to show others if this former schoolteacher can do well financially, they can too! R.J. Stewart - Crazy Hawk: A Post-Apocalyptic Thriller. This is episode 696 of Teaching Learning Leading K12, an audio podcast. R.J. Stewart, the author of the post-apocalyptic thriller, Crazy Hawk, is best known for developing, writing and producing Xena: Warrior Princess (starring Lucy Lawless), once the highest-rated television show in syndication.   He started out as a teamster for nine years and a fledgling stage actor, until he got his first break, writing for the NBC romance detective drama starring Pierce Brosnan, Remington Steele. It would parlay into a 22-year Hollywood career that includes writing credits for movies The Rundown, starring Duane “The Rock” Johnson, Major League 2, starring Charlie Sheen, and television’s Cleopatra 2525. He also worked on projects with Kevin Costner, Rebecca De Mornay and James Garner.  Stewart was born in Brooklyn, New York, but has lived most of his life in the American West. His youth as the son of an Air Force sergeant was spent across six states and Greece, Italy, and Germany. His American family roots trace back nearly two centuries.  He has spent thousands of hours riding a trail horse and likes to collect historical documents specializing in 18th century history.  Stewart graduated from Florida International University.  He lives on a San Diego County horse ranch with his wife of 51 years, Kat O’Connor. Barbara W. Cirigliano, EdD, is the former principal of Willow Grove Kindergarten and Early Childhood Center in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. She has more than 40 years of experience, focusing on early education, elementary education, and special education. At Willow Grove, Dr. Cirigliano led the implementation of a professional learning community. Along with her staff, she created a collaborative culture and developed a guaranteed and viable curriculum supported by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Their creation of common assessments and a pyramid of interventions has built the foundation for student learning in this high-performing district. The National Association for Young Children has accredited Willow Grove for the past several years. This rigorous accreditation process identifies high-quality early learning programs and schools.
