Ep 201: Why Member Engagement from Everyday CRNAs Is Vital to the Health of the AANA

Every member of the AANA is taking an active approach by paying dues and being a part of the organization, but the success of the AANA relies on participation by each and every CRNA. On this episode, we sat down with a CRNA that took that step to move out of her comfort zone and voice her opinion on issues that affected her and many of her peers. Jenny Andersen, CRNA, was a flight nurse in Alaska for many years, which is as adventurous as it sounds. But she eventually had an illness that kept her from continuing and that eventually led her to become a CRNA. Here are some of the things you’ll learn on this show: How do you engage the member that doesn’t take an active approach? (9:55) What drove her to the microphone to speak for the first time. (13:13) How can the Board of Directors to build trust with members? (22:08) What factors drive some of the mistrust? (27:33) The guidance that Jenny would give to people who are hesitant to speak up.
