It CAN be simple; Helping your mental health in motherhood with/Lauren & Megan of The Matrescence
One of my favorite topics and one of the reasons I started this podcast - mental health in motherhood. This week I talked with Lauren and Megan of the Matrescence about what things impact our mental health, how our mental health changes after becoming a mom, and how to support our mental health. The Matrescence was born out of a desire to provide more maternal support after a professional and personal recognition in the gap of care for women. We combined our medical, Lauren RN, BSN, Psychiatric Mental Health NP, and business (Megan) backgrounds—with our experience as seasoned mothers of three— to change the landscape of maternal mental health. We provide integrative mental wellness support and community to and through motherhood. Our global community, actionable tools + expert-curated guides, and bimonthly peer support calls encourage women to embrace the transformation, embody forever wellness, and enrich their motherhood journey.www.thematrescence.com@thematrescence on IG _______________________________________________________________Did you love this episode? Back to school can be hard AF...How do we make it easier? W/Alyssa
Alyssa stresses that many children feel dysregulated during the back-to-school transition and may experience a spike in separation anxiety. Because of this, she has a few tips for how parents can deal with their tiny human’s big emotions:
Preview and prepare: Request pictures of your child’s school and teacher to help your child prepare, or do a walk-through of the school at a time when your child is feeling regulated.
Create coping strategies: Put a family picture or favorite stuffed animal in your child’s backpack. This will help your child self-soothe while at school.
Create routines: Develop a healthy drop-off and pick-up routine that regulates your child’s nervous system and commit to no nightly activities for at least two weeks after school begins.
These are just a few ways Alyssa suggests regulating your child’s big, back-to-school emotions.Alyssa Blask Campbell is the founder and CEO of Seed & Sew, an organization committed to giving parents, teachers and caregivers the tools to raise emotionally intelligent humans. An emotional development expert with a master’s degree in early education, Alyssa co-created the Collaborative Emotion Processing (CEP) method with Lauren Stauble and researched it across the United States. She hosts the Voices of Your Village podcast and has been featured as an emotional development expert in publications including The Washington Post, Kids VT, and Family Education. Alyssa is deeply passionate about building emotional intelligence in children and creating a shame-free, judgment-free community of people interested in doing the same at Seed & Sew.Alyssa Blask Campbell, M.Ed., founded Seed & Sew You can also check out these free resources from Seed & Sew to learn more:Activities for Kids’ Regulation: Giving children the power of regulationthrough guided activities.
