Dr. Venu Menon, Section Head of Clinical Cardiology and Director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at Cleveland Clinic talks with Dr. Paul Cremer and Dr. Penelope Rampersad about Advances in Cardiac Critical Care. Beginning with a historical look at CCU care, Dr. Menon reflects on the changes in critical care over the years. This is followed by a discussion of what CCU care means today, how training has changed, research and quality outcomes, and the role of palliative care in the CCU.

Innovations in cardiac pacing, including new strategies and emerging data, presented within the context of an interesting case presentation. Dr. Kapadia and Dr.Krishnaswamy discuss the focus of current trials and outcome measurements, and point out important considerations in the treatment of tricuspid regurgitation

Dr. Lee Kirksey, Vascular Surgeon and Vice Chairman of Vascular Surgery talks with staff vascular surgeon Dr. David Hardy , vascular medicine specialist and director of the vascular lab, Dr. Natalia Fendrikova Mahlay and imaging/diagnostic radiology specialist Dr.Paul Schoenhagen about vascular imaging. They discuss types of services that are offered in a vascular imaging lab, how cardiovascular CT and MRI work with clinicians to help diagnose conditions and plan treatment, the integration of imaging systems allowing both health system hospitals and external hospitals to share images easily, quality initiatives, as well as imaging considerations in special populations such as aortic disease and chronic kidney disease.

Dr. Cho discusses research based and guideline directed strategies to initiate in patients with these risk factors.

Dr. Steven Nissen, Chief Academic Officer, Chief Academic Officer, Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular talks with Dr. Stan Hazen, Co-Section Head, Preventive Cardiology and researcher about the gut microbiome and how it relates to cardiovascular disease. Dr. Hazen provides a description of TMAO and how it is related to diet and risk of heart and vascular disease. He describes what specific bacteria is involved with this type of activity, how they are approaching future research and treatment of cardiovascular risk gut microbiome and why the Mediterranean diet may be so effective in preventing heart disease.
