Ascension: A Lost Doctrine with Ross Hastings
When is the last time you heard a strong, inspiring sermon on the ascension of Christ? Ross Hastings has noticed how churches, Protestant churches in particular, neglect the doctrine of the ascension in their preaching and teaching. Why is that? It is central to the New Testament story and the continuing story of the gospel. Dr. Hastings joins David Capes on The Stone Chapel Podcast to talk about his book, The Glory of the Ascension: Celebrating a Doctrine for the Life of the Church. You'd be surprised how many teachings and Christian practices tie into this neglected doctrine. Here is a transcript for today's podcast episode. Another Awakening in Germany?
TSCP 268 Another Awakening in Germany? with Benjamin Marx and Jurgen Schulz In 1958 a quiet awakening came to an area of southern Germany, led by a German Lutheran Pastor. That awakening spread to southern Germany and into parts of France. As it came, a movement was founded which fostered a Protestant religious order of men and women, who took vows of poverty and chastity. They became the backbone of the movement in Adelshofen. In this podcast we explore a bit of the history, mission and uniqueness of this school with Dr. Jurgen Schulz, the president, and with a lecturer in New Testament, Dr. Benjamin Marx. Is the Awakening back again? You can listen to more episodes of The Stone Chapel Podcast here. Here is the direct link if you'd like to offer financial support for Adelshofen. 'Under Her Wings' With Jennifer Houston McNeel
One theme in the New Testament that has not been studied: mothers and motherhood. That is until now. Dr. Jennifer Houston McNeel, a New Testament professor at the St. Mary's Ecumenical Institute in Baltimore, MD, has now written that book—"Under Her Wings: Mother and Motherhood in the New Testament." She joins David Capes on "The Stone Chapel Podcast" to discuss how themes of mother and motherhood shape the story of the Gospels, but also leaders like Jesus, Paul, and John. These men talk freely about themselves as church leaders not only in fatherly tones but also in motherly as well. And they extend those qualities to God himself. It's an important book for pastors, church leaders, and scholars alike. "The Stone Chapel Podcast" is part of the ChurchLeaders Podcast Network.
