John is 81 years old and is originally from the U.K. and he has been in ministry since he was 17 years old, when he gave his life to Christ at a Billy Graham meeeting. He has been in ministry for over over 40 years in Pittsburgh.This is an important talk for all of us to listen to. John has paid a huge price to obey the call of God on his life. He is not at his finish line yet, but he has made it further than a lot of other Christian leaders. My pastor says that he believes 2% of Christian leaders make it to their finish line. If that is true, you should be all the more eager to listen to what John has to say. This isn't someone who has talked a good game. This is someone who has lived a good game. I'd be absolutely thrilled if I knew my life would look anything like John's when I'm 81. The best part is, he's not slowing down. You'll hear about his newest Kingdom initiative in the talk. John Guest's Bio:Dr. Guest was born and raised in Oxford, England, "…just an ordinary lad from London," as he describes himself. At the age of 18, while studying to be an engineer, he attended a Billy Graham crusade and committed his life to Christ. Shortly following his ordination, he moved to the United States as part of a Christian rock band, “The Exkursions.”He began his ministry in Pittsburgh nearly 40 years ago, serving as a youth pastor and then, shortly thereafter, as senior pastor and rector of Sewickley's St. Stephens Episcopal Church for more than 20 years.As co-founder of Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (TESM), Guest had the opportunity to influence the Episcopal Diocese in Pittsburgh. During a very turbulent time in the Episcopal Church, he held firmly to conservative Biblical values and helped to establish a reforming influence nationwide.Guest has authored 10 books on the Christian lifestyle.He also participated in the Lausanne Committee on World Evangelism and co-founded the South American Missionary Society. Additionally, he helped found the Coalition for Christian Outreach (CCO), a ministry designed to support and equip young Christian college students. He is widely credited with putting together the Super Bowl XL and the Super Bowl XLIII teams in Pittsburgh along with owner Dan Rooney, president Art Rooney II, and coaches Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin.A Pittsburgh native, Colbert grew up not far from Heinz Field on the city's North Side and attended North Catholic High School and Robert Morris University. Colbert has experience in coaching and managing teams in baseball and basketball alongside his primary sport football. After graduating from Robert Morris University in 1979, he served as a graduate assistant coach on Robert Morris's basketball team from 1979-1981 and also was the head coach of the baseball team in 1981. In 1981, Colbert moved to Ohio Wesleyan University to be their backfield coach and recruiting coordinator from 1981-1983, and served as the school's head baseball coach in 1984.In 1984, Colbert joined the BLESTO Scouting Organization and from there was hired by the Miami Dolphins as a college scout from 1985-1989. Colbert joined the Detroit Lions as the Pro Scouting Director in 1990, where he was responsible for scouting players at the pro level (the NFL, the NFL Europe League, and the Canadian Football League as well as assisting with college player evaluation. He joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2000 as the Director of Football Operations, assisting in the assembly of two Super Bowl winning teams. He started by doing his homework – clocking hours in the library, reading how to best gain entry to the world of the homeless – before suiting up one night in tattered clothes. “I was rubbing dirt in my hair,” he says. “My kids thought I was crazy.”But street folks embraced him, Withers says, and he them. “I found great professors of medicine – and life – in alleyways and abandoned buildings, on riverbanks and under bridges.”His initial project gained patients, volunteer clinicians and students to the extent that, in 1993, Withers officially launched Operation Safety Net under the auspices of not-for-profit Mercy Hospital, which kicked in $50,000 to fund the start-up.
