S8E10 - Jeff Carter: How Can You Be Investable?

“You can’t be an entrepreneur without resilience. You just can’t. Because you’re gonna get knocked down, and you have to get up, and you have to always get up. It’s kind of like ants. When I was little kid I used to like to mess with anthills. And you’d watch them re-dig that hill over and over again. And that’s what the entrepreneur has to do. If you look at wild animals…and you look at lions attacking hippos or whatever, the fight for life to survive is so strong that they will do anything to do it. Entrepreneurs have to be that way.”Full show notes available at www.discoveryourinnerawesome.com. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

S8E9 - Beth Bond: How Can You Be A Social Entrepreneur?

"For the social entrepreneur, or the social enterprise, you are quite often changing behavior. And that is so much different than trying to get someone to buy something that would benefit them."Beth Bond, Founder of Community Startups, joins us.Full show notes available at www.discoveryourinnerawesome.com Hosted on Acast. S8E8 - Tim Wales: How Do You Prepare For Failure?

“...We had every kind of client you could imagine. We had $20 million deals, but every time we would get on the brink of major success, something would impact us. (We had an embezzlement) but we didn’t let that embezzlement bring us down. We instead took it, and when we would sit in front of another investor or corporate partner, we would be honest with them. And it’s interesting because some people will not want to work with you--they think you’re irresponsible because you let it happen. They blame you. Are you kidding me? We’re just trying to innovate and drive business here. And when someone is a professional at hiding things, you should just be happy we found it within 4 or 5 months. And oh yeah, by the way Mr. Investor, we lost our house.”Tim Wales, Cofounder & CEO of Kadima Ventures, joins us.Full show notes available at www.discoveryourinnerawesome.com. Hosted on Acast. Episode 100!! RJ Pahura: How Do You Scale Your Knowledge?

We've reached our 100th episode!“So many times, we don’t even know when we should ask for help. As entrepreneurs, we want to be a jack-of-all-trades and do it all ourselves. But when someone offers to help, or take things off your plate, it was one of the biggest things I realized this year. Instead of me saying ‘no thanks, I’ve got it’, I said ‘sure, let’s give it a shot. I would love it if you could help me with X, Y, Z.’ And that became one of those things that did take a couple hours off my plate. And it enabled us to, even more so, feel joined at the hip as a team when others started taking over tasks.”RJ Pahura, Founder & CEO of Venture Connects and FUND Conference, joins us.Full show notes available at www.discoveryourinnerawesome.com. S6E6 - Shirley Yang: How Do You Find Satisfaction?

"I think that moment where I realized I really needed to do something was when I saw those empty bottles of sleeping pills. I felt broken-spirited, and I knew that this was not the answer. And I had that epiphany of getting rid of your ego. There's something deeper than just what I'm pursuing. And that's when I realized that--you know what--MAYBE there's a chance to be satisfied. Maybe not forever, but having a taste of it. And to be reminded of it, and be able to pull it back out and feel it when you want to--that's enough."Shirley Yang, Founder of Muses, joins us.Full show notes available at www.discoveryourinnerawesome.com. S8E5 - Patrick Tannous: How Do You Do Business With Friends?

“I don’t want to live a life where I’m behind an office, and when I have to reach out to my CEO or my business partner it’s uncomfortable. We just got done with a trip to Germany, and we took a weekend in Amsterdam, and that was our business trip! If you’re gonna spend so much time working, and make that such a big part of your life, why in the world would you do it with someone you don’t like. Why?”Patrick Tannous, Cofounder & President of Tiesta Tea, joins us.Full show notes available at www.discoveryourinnerawesome.com Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

S8E4 - Kimberly Jackson: How Do You Start With Zero Experience?

“...That’s what I heard a lot (when I got started). It’s an app, it’s tech, I have ‘zero experience in tech’. And every time I heard that, it was almost debilitating. If you’re thinking ‘I’m starting from nothing, how do I even start, I have zero experience’ and all the time that’s constantly what you’re hearing, it is kind of hard to get started. But I look at it like we’re never really starting from zero experience. We have something. If you lay out whatever project is in front of you and break it down in pieces there is something you know, something you can relate to.”Kimberly Jackson, Founder of Stand In, joins us.Full show notes available at www.discoveryourinnerawesome.com. S8E3 - Ben Hewitt: How Do You Uphold Your Integrity?

“As I’ve grown and been influenced by people, and had mentors that have been very successful in the venture capital community, very successful businesspeople, the connection between all of them is their integrity. And it doesn’t matter what kind of vertical they’re in, what kind of market they’re in, that’s what makes them successful.”Ben Hewitt, Partner & Head of Sales at Hunt Club, and Operating Partner at New Coast Ventures, joins us.Full show notes available at www.discoveryourinnerawesome.com. S8E2 - Erik Severinghaus: How Do You Navigate The Abyss?

“Something in the order of 70-80% of companies fail, and they don’t fail because the entrepreneurs are weak, or because they just don’t give up--as the advice suggests. It’s actually a far more complicated phenomenon than that. But we reduce it into this idea that you just keep fighting through the abyss and you’ll get there. And so, this oftentimes ends in tragedy in a lot of ways for entrepreneurs...So what’s crazy is, we take people who, as a population are predisposed to these sorts of challenges. We then push them into some of the hardest and most lonely professional situations imaginable. We give them very little support. And ultimately our advice to them as a society is reduced to, ‘just keep fighting harder. And as long as you’re strong enough (i.e. as long as you’re not weak) you’ll make it and become successful.”Erik Severinghaus, serial entrepreneur, angel investor, and Chief Strategy Officer of SpringCM, joins us.Full show notes available at www.discoveryourinnerawesome.com. S8E1 - Matt Wilson: How Do You Build A Sustainable Life?

“I just started going down this rabbit hole of self-discovery because I knew the person that I was at that time was not who I wanted to be. I was not connected with the things that I love, which are the outdoors, being in nature, doing action sports and activities, being physical with my body. It was literally being hunched over my computer all the time, with these devices resting on my genitals...As I started to (change things), eventually I figured out things business-wise a little bit better where I was then able to make investments in my own health. Now I feel like any investment I can make, I am making as early and often as possible to make up for all of the years that I put myself through hell.”Full show notes available at www.discoveryourinnerawesome.com.Our Season 8 theme song is from Sidewalk Chalk, entitled "Take The Time", from their new album An Orchid Is Born.
