Kill Shot

The United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), which represents West Virginia coal miners, urged Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) on Monday to revisit his opposition to President Biden's Build Back Better plan. Nate Silver's data journalism blog, FiveThirtyEight, is a political website with no politics — or rather, no politics beyond a mute approval of the status quo. Former President Donald Trump just announced that he will be holding a press conference on the one-year anniversary of the January 6th Capitol riots. The two deputy district attorneys, who prosecuted the trucker sentenced to 110 years in prison for causing a fatal pileup on Interstate 70, exchanged a trophy-like gift featuring a truck’s brake shoe after the guilty verdict. Anthony Fauci, the nation's leading infectious disease doctor, is calling for the firing of a prominent host on Fox News following comments the host made suggesting activists ambush Fauci and go for a rhetorical "kill shot" to his credibility. Hosts: Ana Kasparian, Cenk Uygur Hosted on Acast. Shots Fired!

Mitch McConnell is subtly showing his support for the January 6th Committee. Given the weak slate of potential Democratic primary candidates in 2024, could Hillary Clinton run again? Bernie Sanders torches Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema for 'arrogance' and 'acting like Republicans.' Tucker Carlson said, "Yes, COVID has killed a lot of people. So has prostate cancer. Imagine telling people about your prostate every day for the next two years."Hosts: John Iadarola, Cenk Uygur, Farron Cousins Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Abortion Executions?

Congress and top Capitol Hill staff have violated the STOCK Act hundreds of times, but the consequences are minimal, inconsistent, and not recorded publicly. Sen. Joe Manchin vented his anger with the media in the wake of a report that he wanted to drop the child tax credit from President Biden’s expansive climate and social spending package. With the Supreme Court now considering Mississippi’s abortion after 15 weeks, and apparently open to rolling back half a century of reproductive rights, conservative Republicans in other states are pushing even more extreme bills -- and some big corporations are helping them. Nikki Fried, Florida's agriculture commissioner and a Democratic candidate for governor, has accused Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis of trying to leverage campaign donations over members of the Florida public university system's boards of trustees.Hosts: Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur Hosted on Acast. Build Back Belated

Senate Democrats are pushing Biden’s Build Back Better to the back burner and are ‘aggressively’ pursuing voting rights legislation. The House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol released new text messages obtained from former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows that were sent to him in the days leading up to the insurrection and while the Capitol was under siege. Laura Ingraham responded to Rep. Liz Cheney reading aloud a text the Fox News host sent to Trump chief-of-staff Mark Meadows on January 6th. Sen. Rand Paul lamented on Fox News on Tuesday what he called CNN’s “dishonest” coverage of his view of disaster relief following tornadoes that devastated Kentucky and other Midwest states over the weekend. The Biden administration won’t extend student loan relief and confirmed student loan payments restart on February 1, 2022. The largest modern home in America could be auctioned in January starting at $250 million.Host: Ana Kasparian Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Get Fired or Die!

According to multiple officials, a single top secret American strike cell launched tens of thousands of bombs and missiles against the Islamic State in Syria, but in the process of attacking the enemy, the shadowy force sidestepped safeguards and repeatedly killed civilians. At least five workers said supervisors warned employees that they would be fired if they left their shifts early during the catastrophic tornadoes in Kentucky. Screenshots of a system used by Scripps Memorial Hospital show markups as high as 675% being imposed automatically during medical treatment. In Hawaii, fears grow over unsafe levels of petroleum in drinking water. Nancy Pelosi will stay around to lead House Democrats through the next election -- and perhaps beyond.Hosts: Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Monster Storms

The southern midwest region of the U.S. was plagued by severe storms and once-in-a-century tornadoes that ravaged communities, homes, and businesses. So far there are dozens confirmed dead and even more still missing. Six workers in an Amazon warehouse died after a tornado leveled the building. The retail giant is being criticized for not allowing workers to carry their mobile phones on the warehouse floor, preventing them from receiving weather warnings. Education in the U.S. is so underfunded that teachers are reduced to collecting dollar bills on their hands and knees for entertainment. In response to the recent Texas abortion law, California Gov. Gavin Newsom says he is working on a bill to allow private citizens to sue anyone who makes or sells assault weapons. Julian Assange is about to be extradited to the United States.Hosts: Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Learn more about your ad choices. Boom Baby Boom

President Biden and the Democratic Congress are set to preside over the strongest two-year performance on growth, jobs, and income in decades—so long as the current cycle of inflation eases, and the Omicron variant does not trigger another round of shutdowns. Kellogg's says it will permanently replace striking workers after their offer of 3% annual raises was rejected. A divided Supreme Court refused to block the Texas law that has banned most abortions but narrowly opened the door for abortion providers to challenge it before a federal judge.
