FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE & WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW WITH DR. LEKKOS
Dr. Lekkos is a functional medicine doctor and the founder of Bios Functional Medicine in Santa Monica. He earned his doctorate in osteopathic medicine from the University of North Texas Health Science Center, has a master’s degree in metabolic and nutritional medicine from the University of South Florida Medical College, and is board-certified in anti-aging, regenerative, and functional medicine. Unlike most doctors, Lekkos looks at you as a whole person. I was told by multiple people this man solves the unsolvable and man were they right. In our first session we just talked for two hours, just like, about who I am – which I don’t know about you, have never happened to me in a doctor’s office. Rather than bandaging symptoms, he looks at you as whole person, and address true underlying causes. His goal is to make you feel better now, while preventing disease so you can literally live your best life. He also offers really cool regenerative services using adult stem cells to activate the body's built-in mechanism of self-repair and restore function to once declining health - essentially, he’s a master bio-hacker. Listen, I understand a service like this comes with privilege, so until our healthcare system makes much needed changes, I did my best to you all answers you need, including what most people should be eating, the importance of sleep hygiene, what supplements most people should be taking, why we need to cut out chemicals and most importantly, how effects of mental health on your body. This conversation was important to me, so we decided to skip out on our relationship Q&A this week. Enjoy! From homelessness to the Forbes list with “alive ideas” with Suzy Batiz
We often hear inspirational stories, but Suzy Batiz, the founder and CEO of Poo~Pourri and Supernatural, really takes the damn cake. Although she recently tied the Forbes list of America’s Richest Self-Made Women with Reece Witherspoon, Suzy’s journey to success was a god damn battle. Suzy grew up in poverty, surviving childhood sexual and domestic abuse, two bankruptcies, three divorces and severe depression. She sold exercise equipment, opened a clothing store, a tanning salon, a beauty salon, sold lingerie, bought homes, sold homes and at certain points, became homeless. She was so focused on money solving her problems that she lost herself. Her “AH HA” moment came after reading Byron Katie’s Loving What Is, at which point she dropped everything and attended her 10-day seminar. Five years later, after filing for bankruptcy for a second time at 38, Suzy sold her first bottle of Poo~Pourri. I have been buzzing since we had this conversation and I am so lucky to share this story with you. Stick around and learn about my new favorite term, an “alive idea”, and stay tuned to the end of the episode to hear Davide and I answer your relationship questions. Legendary Chef Evan Funke and How Shaping Pasta Shaped His Life
Evan Funke is a legend. He is a man fixated on perfection. A two time James Beard nominated chef with arguably one of the best Italian restaurants in the U.S., Felix Trattoria. With over two decades of culinary experience, including working for Wolfgang puck and a quick stint as a teacher, Evan took a job he despised working under a chef from Bologna, who refused to teach him about his Italian cooking. So, he quit, bought a plane ticket, and moved to the Italian City for three months, learning from the iconic Maestra Alessandra how to make pasta. And so began the obsession – the shapes, the culture, the history….it came his life’s work. We talk about what it was like to opening his dream restaurant, and how hard it was to close it after realizing his partner was a con-man and how to rise from the darkness and get back up again. I am beyond honored to have him on the podcast – this story is one of resilience, dedication and faith.
