Exploring Maturity in Coaching: A Discussion with Professor David Clutterbuck

In his last session as host of Coaching Uncaged, Robert Stephenson is joined by Professor David Clutterbuck, author, coach, mentor, supervisor, speaker, lecturer - and occasional comedian. Professor Clutterbuck starts by delving into the etymology of the word coaching and provides a snapshot of the history of coaching that spans thousands of years across different cultures. He then shares insights on the transitions that coaches go through as they become more experienced and mature, touching on some long-term and ongoing research on the levels of coaching maturity. Rob and Professor Clutterbuck then discuss coaching mastery and how mature coaches are able to pull from their wealth of experience and interest to work within complex, adaptive systems of coaching. Exploring the Shadow: A discussion with Nick Thorpe

In this fascinating episode of Coaching Uncaged Animas Centre Director Robert Stephenson is joined by coach, trainer, author and facilitator of our upcoming masterclass Nick Thorpe to explore his work around coaching the shadow. Nick shares the background that brought him to coaching, and his current work, and touches on what is meant by ‘coaching the shadow’, with reference to Carl Jung’s original ‘shadow’ concept. Offering examples from his own journey, he highlights the benefits of truly understanding the shadow for our own self growth, as well as being able to bring it into the space with the coaches we work with. Nick explains how the things that anger, frustrate or upset us in others are often a projection of something from our shadow that we can take back to explore how we might reframe it and . Nick also touches on the relationship of the shadow and being ‘triggered’, and offers some examples of ways that you can start unearthing your shadow. Exploring an Ubuntu Approach to Coaching: A Discussion with Nobantu Mpotulo, MCC

In this thought-provoking episode of Coaching Uncaged Animas Centre Director Robert Stephenson is joined by Executive Coach, Organisational Development Specialist, and one of the very first African coaches to be awarded MCC credentialing Nobantu Mpotulo as they dive into the exploration of an Ubuntu approach to coaching. Nobantu starts by sharing the story and winding journey that led her to becoming an executive coach in South Africa, offering snapshots of how the coaching landscape in Africa looks and feels, and the way that she works with her clients, sharing both the challenges and rewards of this work.  Nobantu explains in detail what she means by an Ubuntu approach to coaching, sharing the translation ‘I am because we are’ to highlight that it’s an approach that’s really all about ‘walking alongside your coachee arm in arm.’ She talks about the heart-centred work of Ubuntu, being completely attuned to those you’re working with and speaks to the importance of completely loving your coachee, even if you don’t particularly like them! Exploring Time to Think Coaching and Thinking Environments: A Discussion with Lucy Gourlay

In this episode of Coaching Uncaged Animas Centre Director Robert Stephenson is joined by Time to Think and Transformational Life Coach Lucy Gourlay as they dive into Nancy Kline’s Time to Think approach to coaching, as well as sharing some information around the upcoming Animas one day ‘Thinking Environment Masterclass that Lucy is delivering on 18th September. Lucy shares more about the Time to Think approach, what sits behind it as a coaching concept and shares her background around this fascinating work, as well as her journey as a coach. Exploring the Role of Self-Work in Becoming an Inclusive Coach and Why It’s So Important: A Discussion With Ashana Crichton

In this thought-provoking episode of Coaching Uncaged Animas Centre Director Robert Stephenson is joined by Professional Development Coach and Diversity and Inclusion Facilitator Ashana Crichton as they delve into the role of self, the work we need to do as coaches in order to be more inclusive in our practice, and why it’s so important. Ashana shares her journey to coaching and her background around Diversity and Inclusion. She details the work that took her from the UK to the US and back, and what finding herself in that new environment offered her and her practice through a new language around diversity and inclusion. Exploring Social Impact and the Creating Space Programme: A Discussion With Head of Social Impact Emma Koubayssi

In this captivating episode of Coaching Uncaged Animas Centre Director Robert Stephenson is joined by Head of Social Impact at Animas Emma Koubayssi as they dive into all things social impact and explore the new Creating Space initiative that is poised to roll out its second wave shortly. Emma details her background around social impact, sharing some of the big campaigns and projects she worked on around the world. Projects often focused on making an impact on young people, health and education. Emma also shares her own definition of Social Impact and the work being done around finding Animas’ own definition of what social impact means to us as an organisation. Exploring the Role of ‘Inner Work’ in Facilitating Difficult Dialogue: A Discussion With Simon Cavicchia

In this thought-provoking episode of Coaching Uncaged Animas Centre Director Robert Stephenson is joined by executive coach, gestalt trained psychotherapist, author and Ashridge faculty member Simon Cavicchia as they explore the self work we might need to do to better facilitate dialogue around the more difficult or triggering topics of conversation. Robert and Simon look specifically at the topic of diversity and inclusion as they delve into what makes particular dialogue difficult. They touch on the idea of defence and attack stances that can come into play when dealing with difficult conversations, the importance of recognising our own triggers and biases, as well as exploring how as coaches, we might use our knowledge of human relationships, human beings and psychological safety as coaches in service of creating conditions for dialogue. Exploring the Development of the Coaching Profession: A Discussion With Cheryl Procter-Rogers, MCC

In this new episode of Coaching Uncaged, Animas Centre Director Robert Stephenson is joined by MCC coach, public speaker, author and PR consultant Cheryl Procter-Rogers as they delve into the growth and development of the coaching profession, and explore the impact that coaching can have in so many different areas.  Cheryl shares how she first came to coaching, touching on the realisation that she was actually coaching before she even knew what coaching was - something that is no doubt familiar for many coaches listening to this episode - before mapping her journey from a career in PR, to training as a coach and recently achieving her MCC credentials - one of only 1235 worldwide coaches to do so.  Cheryl shares more detail around the process she went through to achieve her MCC credentials, why she is so glad to have done it, what it offers her and her coachees, as well as what taking two attempts at submission taught her about herself and her coaching.  Robert and Cheryl discuss how far the profession has come in the last few decades, touching on how it has matured into a ‘true profession’, sharing where they feel it might head in the near future.
