#76: Too Dumb For Fiction (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 76th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode, we discuss Portland going off the rails again. More riots and vandalism happened downtown, and we went to document some of it: the Apple store, the dumpster fires, the volunteers picking up trash, the companies proclaiming that we are “united by love” while (only) the white women in their displays are crossed out by activists. Meanwhile, the public schools debate changing names and mascots, and we are told that we need to register our cats. Then: a discussion of four numbers in the news this week. Three: shots now needed for the Pfizer vaccine. Ninety: the percentage of false positives from Covid tests in England. Thirteen: the proposed new number of Supreme Court Justices. 2.5 billion: the number of T. rexes who once roamed the Earth. Penultimately, we discuss lizards that aren’t lizards (but are in fact salamanders). And finally: footage from a coyote den that we (or rather, our dog) found near us, which had in it a mother and two kits. Our book, A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century, is now available for pre-sale at amazon. #75: Stop Disrupting Childhood (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 75th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.  In this episode we discuss privacy, and the amazing things that we (and you) can see with game cameras: beaver, river otters, nutria, coyotes. Then: should children be allowed to medically and surgically transition? One approach to understanding our answer is to consider type-I vs type-II errors in statistics. And: shall we drug children to get them to fit with modernity (specifically, a new ADHD drug)? What helps breed “persistence” in children? On a different topic: on the villainification of Jordan Peterson by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Finally: sunlight really is the best disinfectant (of SARS-CoV2). Our book, A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century, is now available for pre-sale at amazon. #74: Nothing to Ad (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 74th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. This episode marks the first episode in which we broadcast ads. After speaking two ads at the top of the show, we devote the rest of the episode to a critique of advertising, a history of ads in nature (bird plumage or song, bright coloration or patterning on a toxic frog or butterfly), and a discussion of how ads have been used to drive editorial content in some places, notably magazines aimed at women and girls. We then provide eight pro bono ads: products or things that we think are awesome (or not), and why we think so. This was fun; we hope you think so, too.Our book, A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century, is now available for pre-sale at amazon. #73: Arroz by any Other Name (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 73rd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. This episode marks the one year anniversary of the Evolutionary Lens! We discuss its origin, and talk about the books we’ve read from on-air over the last year. In other news: A ship is stuck in the Suez Canal; Bret has an Evergreen take on the situation. Also the former head of the CDC, Robert Redfield, says that lab leak is the most likely origin for SARS-CoV2. Meanwhile, RT wants us to believe that the Amazon rainforest causes global warming. In happier news, saffron seems to lift depression. And finally: why we should absolutely be talking about detransition, which is what happens when people who have transitioned decide that they made an error, and work to regain their former sexual identities, health, and lives. Our book, A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century, is now available for pre-sale at amazon. #72: Dogs, Frogs, and Viral Analogs (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 72nd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. It’s the Spring equinox, and there are frogs—frogs who are anatomically able to tune out some of the voices of other frogs whom they have no interest in. Then: Bret’s challenge to Ibram Kendi, which includes a simple proof involving dogs and anti-racism. And: the left are increasingly gullible; we provide an example from a class action lawsuit in California against the use of CRT in state agencies. Finally: Is widespread vaccination during a pandemic safe? We discuss the views of a scientist, Geert Vanden Bossche, who argues “no.”  Our book, A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century, is now available for pre-sale at amazon. #71: Make Dopamine While the Sun Shines (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 71st in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode, we talk about trees and mental health and lockdowns and polar bears. Among other things. Does having trees outside your window help mitigate depression? If so, how close do they need to be? Does it matter what species they are? What’s so great about trees anyway? What about rivers or birds or volcanoes? Also: how do extended lockdowns affect teenagers in particular? What do we lose when we close schools, shut down organized sports, keep people from socializing? And: what do polar bears eat when melting sea ice keeps the seals out of reach? Duck eggs of course! Our book, A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century, is now available for pre-sale at amazon.
