It gets harder to focus on the reformation we need when it seems like things in the world are too much to digest! We have to remain as honest as possible with what we see, our ability to take action while still taking care of ourselves. It's EXHAUSTING! Christians, in general, have been too willing to compromise our values when it benefits us. Jay visits Matthew 5 to remind us the beatitudes still have a place in how we live. Remember that the message of non-violence, community and empathy is at the heart of Christianity. Keep having the hard conversations and love each other. We can do better. It's important to remind ourselves that dignity matters. Scapegoating and vilifying others doesn't lead to a conversation and continues to divide us. If we love our enemies, as the Bible talks about in Matthew 5:43, we're forced to reconcile the cruelty that others are being shown and decide to do better. What are the things that keep us from grace or allow us to live a full life of showing grace to others? Paul clearly describes characteristics for us to follow in order for people to know that we're following the example and teachings of Jesus. He also encourages RESTORATION! Who would have thought that he'd encourage us to promote building relationships and openness to the fact that people can change! "I wish they would castrate themselves". Paul speaks about the contradictions that come together in grace in extreme terms! When we lack compassion, it's even more difficult to com to a place where we can show grace to others. "Justice has to have a bit of love in it, or it becomes cruelty". This is a great talk from Galatians 15 that includes one of the most important reminders "you shall love your neighbor as yourself". Hope you all have a great week. Some people think that grace and faith and forgiveness isn't enough. Paul warns about rebuilding the old laws and putting limitations on receiving these gifts.
