NIL Eve: Questions and expectations for the Name, Image and Likeness era (06/30)
The Cover 3 crew discusses what’s ahead with college athlete endorsements. On July 1, nearly a dozen states will enact legislation allowing college athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness without jeopardizing their eligibility and the NCAA is set to approve temporary rules to provide that same opportunity to everyone across the country. So here on June 30, we wanted to know: what will the NIL era look like for most college football players (1:30), how much money can we expect to see in these deals (10:00) and how will schools use their resources to help players with the process (19:33)? Then, how much does recruiting factor into non-conference and road scheduling and vice versa? As recruiting has modernized does making those trips to talent hotbeds for road games still matter (30:15)? 2021 Oklahoma Drill Draft: Texas A&M, Alabama, Ohio State well represented (06/28)
The Cover 3 crew is assembling the best Oklahoma Drill squad with 2021 college football players. After doing an all-time Oklahoma Drill Draft earlier this summer, we’re back with the same format (two OL, two DL, one RB, one LB) but this time only using players from 2021 college football rosters. The draft starts with a run on the trenches and nothing but linemen picked in the first two rounds (1:33) before Bijan Robinson breaks the seal on the running backs in the third round (10:00). After the offensive linemen positions were all filled by the end of the fourth round (19:40) the attention turned to running backs and linebackers in the final eight picks of the draft (26:30). Then, grades and analysis for everyone’s draft (34:40), the best players not picked from the big board (42:20) and a quick note on how NC State’s College World Series fiasco should inform our expectations for college football in the fall (51:20).
