Take Your Shoes Off w/ Rick Glassman
Rick Glassman
Hi, I'm Rick Glassman, and I'm a goofy guy and a cute boy. As a kid, I had debilitating OCD. I still have a lot of “things.” The title of my podcast “Take Your Shoes Off” is a microcosm of my need for control and order in a world that... keeps their shoes on.
I created this podcast to showcase a more serious side, as I have conversations with some of the funniest and most interesting people in the world. I’ve learned the language of comedy in an attempt to survive this shoes-on world, so of course there will be some goofs and spoofs, but think of this podcast as you being a fly on the wall, as opposed to being an audience member in a theatre.
Please, take your shoes off, and enjoy!

Sarah-Violet Bliss & Charles Rogers (The Balcony Series)
Another double guest balcony session with the incredibly talented and dynamic co-creators of "Search Party," Sarah-Violet Bliss & Charles Rogers. Rick invites them over to discuss how creating and running your own show compares to working on established projects, like the "Wet Hot American Summer" television series. They discuss their first official project together, "Fort Tilden," debuting at the SXSW film festival where is ALSO won that year's Grand Jury Award, then creating the critically acclaimed (then TBS) HBO Max series, "Search Party." They deep dive into all things creative process and career highlights as well as how they work seamlessly together. Weathering the outside elements of the balcony like consummate performers, they contend with wildfire ash, poop raining down, as well as some pretty great pyrotechnics. Lots of great advice and insight into being young writers, the path to success, and the culture of writing-rooms (aka boys club culture). A great episode for some inside-baseball style info for those wondering about or wanting to join the entertainment business. If you read this whole description, leave 5 stars and write "I like poopies" in your review. Jon Rudnitsky 3.0 (The Balcony Series)
He’s back for the third time JON RUDNITSKY! Taking to the balcony to get stoned, Jon decides to do it sober but Rick finds out after he already ate an eatable!! ...and the chaos ensues. Jon comes in, second guessing and unsure of himself, which high-Rick leans into as a faux-bully who doesn’t know when he’s gone too far. They attempt a script reading session which is a certain fail and discuss Jon’s insecurities and Rick being too-much and “always on." Jon nearly gets to tell us about his recent engagement and we get to hear both the boys attempt something near an Irish and Scottish accent. Jon shows us his epic air piano and they form an impromptu air-instrument band. This episode is full of Rick-direction and lots of visual Goblin Bits (watch on YouTube!) which if you want to see the BTS of how Rick gets his guests to copy we upload them to Patreon weekly!! Khalyla Kuhn (The Balcony Series)
This week we have the wonderful better half of TigerBelly, Khalyla! She comes prepped and ready to have fun and even initiated some goblin bits. Rick enquires about her initial opinions about him based on a confident first introduction at The Comedy Store, her own insecurities and the origins of the #TigerBelly Podcast. Khalyla explains her journey from the Philippines to America and her career as a near-Olympic swimmer, which lead to her college scholarship and a brief career as a nurse. The two bond over similar anxieties and navigating the podcast world. Dotted in amongst some heavy conversations, Khalyla joins in on snaps, costume changes and goblin poop moments like a consummate professional. They dissect Bobby Lee and her compatibility, what it’s like looking out for him, and the chaos that has become their everyday life. Have your idea for an app or custom software made. Adam DeVine (The Balcony Series)
Welcome back to another episode from The Balcony Series. It's Adam Devin!! CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE IT?! He’s one of the best young comedy actors and accidental romantic leads from films and TV shows like Workaholics, Pitch Perfect, Isn’t It Romantic, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and most recently Magic Camp, to name a few. Adam proves to be just as funny, playful, and sincere on the balcony as in many of his roles, and he and Rick get straight into directing some goblin bits (and guzzling some goblin bits!). The two have an insightful conversation about Adam’s new documentary produced by Lebron James that goes into detail about a horrific near death accident Adam experienced as a child and about growing up after scars and all. The boys recount meeting at UCB and Rick being somewhat enamoured while Adam retells some foresight in knowing about Rick’s Stand Up future. Adam is somewhat interrogated about how he prepares for nude scenes to Rick’s disbelief and we get to see more than we bargained for as an audience member. We hope you love this very animated conversation, Boppers! Beth Stelling (The Balcony Series)
Ever wanted to know who Rick’s female comedy counterpart is? Well, she’s on the balcony today! It's phenomenal comedian, Beth Stelling. Days before releasing her hour-long special on HBO Max, “Girl Daddy”, she climbed over to the balcony to chat with Rick about all comedy and business. They naturally slip into some mustache bits and we get to know Beth and her process from filming her first special. Rick reveals his female body hair gripe and Beth details her 4 comedy-career rules, none of which she still keeps. The two discuss their issues with repeating jokes and why it’s been a struggle for them both. Is their struggle of needing to continuously write in fact part of their... "genius?" Beth battles feelings about self promotion whilst being extremely introspective. She talks about performing on the road with Sarah Silverman and gives her take on Bill Burr’s story about being groped by a female comedian, and the double standards of that reversed behavior being common place for a female comedian. It's a tit-slapping good time, goblins! BE SURE TO CHECK OUT BETH'S SPECIAL, "GIRL DADDY" ON HBO MAX THIS WEEK -- on AUGUST 20TH!! Ethan Suplee (The Balcony Series)
We’re back again for another episode to brighten your Mondays! This week's guest is actor and podcaster, Ethan Suplee. You’ll know him from nearly every film you’ve ever loved… he’s been in movies with Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, Edward Norton, and Johnny Depp. The boys meet for the first time on the pod and have a very snaps heavy, bits galore 90 minutes. They discuss how Ethan got into the business from visiting a childhood friend on set (The Wonder Years) and how he ultimately ended up on the TV show Boy Meet’s World. Ethan divulges his personal struggle with drugs from a young age and why he regrets not going to University. They touch on filming American History X, Wolf Of Wall Street, and what it’s been like working alongside the biggest and most respected actors in history. Rick also farts mid-way through the interview which starts… something?! They go into depth about “fitting in” to the entertainment industry, learning your work ethic, being prepared, and appreciating other people's work. They also discuss self esteem and how Ethan navigated being overweight very young and his journey to health and fitness. Ethan invited Rick over to do his podcast American Glutton which will be coming out later this month. We’ll put the link up soon! Will Forte (The Balcony Series)
This is a BIG one Boppers and Goblins. Comedy Legend, Will Forte, joins us for the continuing Balcony Series! You’ll know him from Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock, American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, The Last Man on Earth and as the title character in his own creation, one of the FUNNIEST comedies ever, MacGruber. Will comes for the Marshall Rug’s ads, Goblin mischief and Snaps, but stays for the costume changes and not so PG edits (poop). Rick met Will on the set of their Netflix film, A Futile And Stupid Gesture, and they discuss taking their mom’s to Disneyland together, the logistics of Standards & Practices on set, and how to feed the birds with your own urine. Will details how he's never laughed and broken character when filming, and what it's like to see the great Bill Hader and Will Ferrell break. He attempts to give Rick a gift which feels somewhat like the tables turning on Rick’s own ongoing Justin Timberlake Book Gifting bit! And we are again blessed with Rick’s singing talents (kind of). The two bond over OCD rituals, accepting their quirks as part of being comedy professionals, and how they both manage to navigate their idiosyncrasies in conversation and life. Rick expresses being such a fan of Will and the dynamics of being a fan of your own friend. Will then turns into Bacon. #BaconMeExcited #MacGruber RICK GLASSMAN MERCH: https://www.rickglassman.com/store PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/takeyourshoesoff INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/rickglassman DISCORD: https://discord.gg/XXy4brb WILL FORTE: TWITTER: https://twitter.com/orvilleiv https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/article/macgruber-is-a-misunderstood-gem-of-a-cult-comedy/ Sound Mixing & Editing: George KrikesSupport the show: https://www.patreon.com/takeyourshoesoff

Brent Morin & Jason Collings (The Balcony Series)
Welcome back, Goblins! We have a rare episode with not one but TWO GUESTS! Brent Morin climbed up the balcony with his podcast-other-half and fellow Stand up comedian, Jason Collings. Together, they are collectively known as the hosts of The Lions Den Podcast. Jason, a rookie goblin didn’t come prepared for the heat, so he proceeded to sweat for 90 mins (in a t-shirt). However Brent wore his finest mesh tank top… and just in case that wasn’t uncomfortable enough, he also spends 89% of the episode staring deeply into the camera. SO if you’re starved of affection and intimacy you’ve come to the right show. IF you opted for the audio-only version, then you’re really missing out. Watch on YouTube here! The boys get straight into dissecting play-on-word jokes, improvise commercials (cue Brent’s deplorable British accent), and how they’re all coping without Stand Up during these trying times. Jason reminisces about going on a stadium tour with Russell Peter’s and staying in the same hotels as Drake while Rick drops a joke about Family’s that may get them all canceled. The trio do a great job dissecting comedy audiences and the math of jokes. They also tell the story where they witnessed Rick’s biggest on stage stand up bomb to date and why his set's are sometimes misunderstood. All in all a wonderful meshing of podcast worlds and worth a watch on youtube, if only for Brent’s intense gaze. Thanks for sticking by us Boppers!! We hit 20,000 YouTube subscribers last week!!! ...And we’ve decided when we get to 50,000 subscriptions, we’ll finally release the Will Smith Episode so get clicking :) RICK GLASSMAN MERCH: https://www.rickglassman.com/store PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/takeyourshoesoff INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/rickglassman DISCORD: https://discord.gg/XXy4brb The Lion's Den w/ Brent Morin & Jason Collings: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-lions-den/id1493601563 BRENT MORIN: https://www.instagram.com/brentmorin JASON COLLINGS: https://www.instagram.com/jasoncollings OTHER TYSO APPEARANCES: Brent Morin 1.0: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzyyiQpo57o Brent Morin 2.0: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jihUDSrry9M Noches Con Platanito: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHh51kYhQKgSound Mixing: George KrikesSupport the show: https://www.patreon.com/takeyourshoesoff
