For the 4th piece in this mini-series of stories I WISH would have made into the book or movie, Black Hawk Down, I was honored to sit down with Dan Jollota, a highly accomplished Army Aviator who served for 40 years, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 5 (something very few Americans have achieved). Ep. 106:(Part 3) Stories I WISH would have made it into Black Hawk Down- Kurt Smith

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the events known as Black Hawk Down, we’re in a series of stories I WISH would have made it into the book and movie. For this episode, I got to sit down with Kurt Smith, who has heavily impacted me not just as a warrior, but as a man. We served together for years in Special Operations, and in Somalia in 1993, he was part of the "main effort" during the fight. His friendship during that time was vital for me and many others. You’ll hear:Why we both believe the force put together for the Somalia mission is one of the best ever assembled in historyHow we got to know each other when we were neighbors as Sergeants in the Ranger RegimentA time when his example gave me a punch in the gut and challenged me to be a better manWhy I was so impressed by the speed and efficiency with which his unit operatedAn honest discussion of what it’s like to be in some of the heaviest gunfire Americans have ever seen and watching people we admired die right before our eyesLeave a review of this podcast on your favorite platform; it helps us get these stories out to more people who need to hear them!To give specific feedback directly to us on what you like about the podcast and what you don’t, fill out this 5-minute survey.Don’t let fear win. Ep. 105: (Part 2) Stories I WISH would have made it into Black Hawk Down- Brad Paulsen

This series is true stories of valor and courage that should have been in the book or movie, Black Hawk Down. In this episode, I interview Brad Paulsen, who is without doubt, the bravest man I’ve ever seen in a firefight. In 1993, he was a young Ranger who hadn’t been in the Army very long. He was a turret gunner in Somalia, and his ability to remain calm multiple times when he was certain he was going to die amazed me. His actions saved many lives (including mine), and I am truly honored to have served with him. You’ll hear:How he ended up in the Ranger RegimentWhat went through his mind when he was being shot at from all directionsHow he maintained composure when doing one of the most gruesome tasks a warrior ever doesHow he successfully operated a 50 cal weapon with a severely injured hand (something VERY few people could do)How we could have all been killed if he did not have perfect accuracy with a grenadeWhat he did that I believe is the greatest single act of valor I’ve ever seenLeave a review of this podcast on your favorite platform; it helps us get these stories out to more people who need to hear them!
