SBG 79: Descendants with Grace Rolen
Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with TikTok star Grace Rolen (@fullofgracer) to talk about why Disney’s Descendants movies Should’ve Been Gay. We discuss the inherent queerness of magic, villains, and archenemies. We also do a line for line breakdown of Mal and Evie’s love duet, Space Between. Almost every character in these movies, particularly the ones from the Isle, is queer and there are so many possible ships! The Isle full of villain kids is a queer allegory if we’ve ever seen one. We talk about the chemistry between Mal and Uma and how obvious it is that they are exes. We also talk about how in love Mal and Evie are the entire time and how bland Mal’s relationship with her actual boyfriend is in comparison. One thing is for sure, Descendants Should’ve Been Gay. 513: Everlasting Lovin'
Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) tackle the age old question of how to maintain desire in a long term relationship. This question comes up a lot, especially in lesbian relationships. There’s a reason people talk about “lesbian bed death” and most of it is rooted in the patriarchy. Societal expectations around sex and desire are based on men and this can cause a lot of issues for women. At the start of a relationship when your hormones are vibing through the roof, it probably doesn’t feel difficult to get turned on or conjure up that spark of passion. But by the 3 year mark when our hormones start to stabilize and our bodies stop sabotaging our ability to think clearly, it might take a little something extra to ignite that desire. We share tips for navigating the changes to your sex life that occur naturally as your relationship progresses. SBG 78: Kim Possible with Clarissa Thibeaux
Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with actor Clarissa Thibeaux (@clarissa) to talk about the early 2000s “girl power” Disney animated series Kim Possible. Call me, beep me, if you wanna reach me. When you wanna page me, that’s real gay! This show had everything from the kick-ass teenage heroine in a problematic age gap ship with her nemesis to the campy gay villain with Frank N. Furter vibes. Shego singlehandedly made an entire generation of baby gays recognize their queerness and that’s not a feat to be taken lightly. Kim Possible also has iconic queer fashion that still holds up to this day. Don’t even lie, there are cargo pants and a crop top in your closet right now. We know one thing for sure, Kim Possible Should’ve Been Gay. Follow along on Twitter: Lez Hang Out (@lezhangoutpod) and answer our Q & Gay at the end of every episode. 512: Lez-ssentials Dickinson
Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) talk about the Apple TV series Dickinson for this Lez-ssentials episode, a recurring segment on the essential movies and TV shows in the lesbian canon. Dickinson is essentially Emily Dickinson fan fiction, and it wastes absolutely zero time before giving us Emisue. They make-out in the very first episode. We love to see it. We break down each season and dissect Emily and Sue’s relationship throughout. We talk about the real historical people that the characters are based on and the real life relationship between Emily and Sue. At the end of the episode, stick around to hear our original song based on Dickinson titled “Leave A Mark” written by Leigh Holmes Foster and performed by Ellie Brigida and Leigh Holmes Foster. SBG 77: Swanqueen with Queer Field Day
Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with two of the founders of Queer Field Day (@queerfieldday), Lilly Brown (@lilly27sings) and Kayleen Casey (@kayleencasey) to talk about the iconic ship Swanqueen from Once Upon A Time. This show is the perfect set up for an enemies to lovers ship. It’s basically a lesbian Parent Trap. Once Upon A Time is queerbaiting at its finest and all these years later we’re still not over it. If Emma were a man, their story would’ve been written to be a romantic relationship. Swanqueen was so many people’s gay awakenings and yet they never actually got together. We know one thing for sure, Swanqueen Should’ve Been Gay. Follow along on Twitter: Lez Hang Out (@lezhangoutpod) and answer our Q & Gay at the end of every episode. 511: Who Tells Our Story with Mariko Tamaki
Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with writer Mariko Tamaki (@marikotamaki) to talk about telling our stories. We discuss Mariko’s new YA murder mystery novel, COLD, coming out this February and her experience writing the story. We dive into the creation of COLD (in a spoiler free way) and Mariko’s decision to tell the story from multiple perspectives. We talk about tropes and the weight Mariko felt when telling a story that involves the death of a queer character. We talk about the differences in stories told by straight people that happen to include queer characters versus when we get to tell our own stories. We also talk discuss the importance of fandom, Mariko’s first experience at a queer comic convention, and why she avoids her GoodReads reviews. SBG 76: The Devil Wears Prada with Candida Valentina
Leigh (@lshfoster) hangs out with founder of the Queerly Beloved Revue, Candida Valentina (@candidavalentinaofficial), to talk about why the movie The Devil Wears Prada Should’ve Been Gay. Who better to dissect the extreme gayness of this movie than the absolute ruler of the queer burlesque scene? We break down why these characters are so gay. We’ve got Miranda, the power gay that everyone aspires to be, and Andy, a baby gay with a praise kink. Andy meets Miranda and can’t decide if she wants to be her or be with her. And we could not relate more. So many scenes in this movie have zero heterosexual explanation and we just want to know what the writers think was going on. We know one thing for sure, The Devil Wears Prada Should’ve Been Gay. Follow along on Twitter: Lez Hang Out (@lezhangoutpod) and answer our Q & Gay at the end of every episode. 510: Collabor-GAYtion with Out in Love
Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) chat with storyteller and producer Elishia K. Constantine (@elishiathegreat) and screenwriter and director Kristina Pupo (@kristinapupo) about the art of collaborgaytion. Elishia and Kristina met at Clexacon in 2019 and quickly realized that they had complementary vibes, goals, and skillsets. Together they created the series Out in Love based on Kristina’s real life experiences. Since then Elishia has founded the independent production company Canon Divergence and is working with Kristina on several projects including a fiction podcast and a feature. We sat down with them to talk about the benefits of collaborating, how to find the right person to team up with, and what their creative journey has been like. SBG 75: Bridesmaids with Never Normal
Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with comedians and hosts of the podcast Never Normal, Renee Santos (@reneesantoscomedy) and Jackie Monahan (@jackiemonahan) to talk about why the movie Bridesmaids Should’ve Been Gay. Bridesmaids is quite simply gay from casting to credits. Nothing about this movie has a heterosexual explanation. The only reason anyone would have for being that jealous of their friend making another friend is if there was a secret crush going on. Bridesmaids should have ended with Annie and Lillian recognizing their romantic feelings for one another and finally getting together. Alternatively, we would accept a throuple situation between Annie, Lillian and Helen. One thing is for sure, Bridesmaids Should’ve Been Gay.
