Mini: What Goes Wrong when we Compare Ourselves to Others / MIND

Our society really struggles with comparison. We scan and we scroll through the social feeds of others and often wind up putting ourselves in a position of comparison. If insecurities within us get activated, which normally happens, we can wind up feeling pretty poorly about ourselves. There are a few things to do that can help you move away from comparison, including understanding it's root and really asking yourself what you're looking for when you find yourself going down that rabbit hole. LESSONS: Comparison can be a huge struggle for many of us and activate deep insecurities. Remember that comparison can be rooted in the initial need for belonging. If you are comparing, might you want to be connecting? Take a good look at your behaviors. You may need to hit the pause button on those that exacerbate comparing behaviors. Ask yourself, What am I really looking to find when I compare? Mini: The Importance of Your Contribution with Dr. Lara Pence

Each and every one of us is on this planet for a reason, and we all have a unique contribution to make. In today's climate of comparison, we can often get caught up in what others are doing and attempt to emulate them, whereby ignoring what our own contribution might be or how our individuality matters. It is important that we all recognize that it IS the uniqueness of each of us that matters and in order to meet your own purpose you must show up fully for who you are rather than attempt to be someone else. LESSONS: We each have a unique contribution to make in this world. When you compare ourselves to others and attempt to be like someone else, the world not only loses out on who you are but you also lose out on the benefit of true authenticity. During these times, remember that your contribution matters - no matter how small you think it might be. We need to you to show up for yourself so that you can show up for others. The World's Strongest One Armed Man Logan Aldridge

At 13 years of age Logan lost his arm in a wakeboarding accident - has that limited his life? Nope- not at all! You may not be able to control the adversity you face, but that doesn't mean you don't control your destiny! In this interview, he discusses how he will never accept the expectations of others and is dedicated to spreading awareness and opportunities through education. Logan says you have to accept the reality of the situation, be grateful for the abundance that you have, be mindful what you focus on, and always keep learning. As he states, "the deterrent or the interest (of what I do) does not come or stem from having one arm or what I'm capable of doing- it's just what I'm interested in and I will figure out the rest later." As his mom said right after the accident- "Logan, it's just an arm." You are more capable than you believe and can conquer any obstacle on the course or in life. Mini: How to Get Things in Control with Dr. Lara Pence / MIND

When things feel really out of our control, we often move into a position of helplessness. We can operate from a victim mindset, throw our hands up, and believe that we've got zero power. The truth is, there are absolutely going to be times in your life when things happen outside of you that are not in your control. However, there are ways that you can shift your perspective to give yourself a sense of greater control. By considering the things that are in your control and implementing greater agency over your emotional response, you can put yourself in the driver seat again. LESSONS: Sometimes there will be things in your life that you cannot control - when this happens perspective is key. Exercise self-agency by thinking of all the things that you can control, rather than what is out of your control. Remember, something that you can always control is your emotional response. So respond to your own emotions with clarity and strength.
