Hazardous Hospital Food
A hospital is supposed to be a place of healing and a pillar of health. Yet, many are serving the foods that may have helped land the patient in the operating room. Learn about the big money contracts between hospitals and fast food restaurants that generate millions of dollars every year as "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll sits down with Leslie Rudloff, Director of Legal Affairs at The Physicians Committee. Rudloff has obtained the contracts and has found just how much money burgers and fries can bring in to the medical facilities. Raising A Vegan Kid
Is it healthy for a child be vegan and not eat meat or dairy? Will they still get all of the vitamins and nutrients they need? Despite what you might have heard from skeptics, the answer to both is YES! In fact, the vegan kid in school probably isn't alone anymore. With an increasing number of adults turning to a plant-based diet, it is a logical assumption that their offspring are following suit. They're not the "weird kid" anymore! The reality is that the current standard American diet is failing our children and the rate of childhood obesity has skyrocketed over the last half-century. Meanwhile, plant-based diets have been proven time and again to be great for weight loss. Currently, one out of five kids is considered obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Sadly, many of these children are now facing some very adult problems, including high blood pressure, fatty liver disease, and even heart disease. On this show, "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll explores the myths and stigma surrounding children on a vegan diet with Dr. Asha Subramanian, who specializes in family medicine. Gretchen Housel, M.S.N., N.P.- C. also discusses her personal experience raising a young child on a plant-based diet. She has good advice for parents wondering how to handle the potential peer pressure and other outside influences that their children may face. We also revisit an interview with vegan NASCAR driver Landon Cassill who talks about raising a couple of vegan children from a father's perspective. The Inspirational Story of Josh LaJaunie
Josh LaJaunie is a man who no longer believes in the word "impossible." He no longer thinks he can achieve a goal; he knows that he will. It's a critical distinction that the Louisiana native discovered while doing what he believed to be impossible at the time. Josh achieved a lifelong dream of shedding a massive 400-pound frame and becoming the person he always believed he could be, inside and out. In this conversation with "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll, you'll hear about Josh's plant-powered journey in his own words. The inspiration for his first steps stems from the two biggest loves of his life, his wife and the New Orleans Saints. After the latter marched to an improbable Super Bowl victory, he began developing a game plan of his own. It wasn't long before he stepped out of his front door and went for a run. Shortly thereafter, he ran his first race and hasn't ever slowed down. To date, he's run thousands of miles and has is now at the forefront of the plant-based movement among athletes. The comradery shared by Chuck and Josh in this interview is eye opening. Although both have kept the weight off for a number of years, every day is still viewed with a fresh set of eyes. Now, the only thing the self-professed football fanatics enjoy more than Sunday afternoons during the fall is helping others experience that same wholesome vision.
