St Paul is the patron saint of our Cathedral. The 25th January is the feast of the Conversion of St Paul and so, in this service of prayer and reflection, we remember and give thanks for his life and witness.

Sharon Prentis presents the last in a series of filmed reflections on visionary and prophetic voices to celebrate Black History Month. Sharon reflects upon the life of civil rights activist and priest Pauli Murray. (27 October 2020) The Revd Dr Sharon Prentis is Mission Enabler & Dean of Black and Minority Ethnic Affairs for the Church of England in Birmingham and Honorary Fellow, Edward Cadbury Centre at the University of Birmingham’s Dept of Theology and Religion. After gaining degrees in social sciences, anthropology and theology her research and teaching has predominately been in community and education contexts. In 2003, her work was recognised by the Department of Health when she was named as a Mary Seacole Scholar for a project on faith and the impact on health. Sharon is a member of the Committee for Minority Ethnic Anglican Concerns, a National group for the Church of England.

Anthony Reddie presents the third in a series of filmed reflections on visionary and prophetic voices to celebrate Black History Month. Anthony reflects upon the life of political activist and journalist Marcus Garvey. (20 October 2020) Professor Anthony G. Reddie is the Director of the Oxford Centre for Religion and Culture in Regent’s Park College, in the University of Oxford. He is also an Extraordinary Professor of Theological Ethics and a Research Fellow with the University of South Africa. He is a recipient of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s 2020 Lambeth, Landfranc Award for Education and Scholarship, given for ‘exceptional and sustained contribution to Black Theology in Britain and Beyond’.

Rosemarie Mallett presents the second in a series of filmed reflections on visionary and prophetic voices to celebrate Black History Month. Rosemarie reflects upon the life of musician Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Film at https://youtu.be/vpOGbBnkAhg (13 October 2020) The Revd Canon Dr Rosemarie Mallett is the current Archdeacon of Croydon, an honorary canon of Southwark Cathedral and was the first Director of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation for Southwark Diocese. Born in Barbados, she has travelled many routes to arrive as an urban priest in London. She has worked as a senior medical sociologist and ethno-cultural mental health research scientist, and is now very engaged in church and community development both locally and nationally, dealing with issues of justice and equity for women and minority ethnic people in church and outside.

Jarel Robinson-Brown presents the first in a series of filmed reflections on visionary and prophetic voices to celebrate Black History Month. Jarel reflects upon the life of novelist and activist James Baldwin. From 2013 - 2019 Jarel served as a Methodist Minister and entered the Church of England in 2020. He is preparing to serve as a priest in the Diocese of London. Prior to full-time ministry he studied classical music as a pianist and organist. He is currently researching Coptic Monasticism and Late Antique Egypt and is also interested in Liberation Theology, Queer Theology and the life of the Prophets.
