Ctrl Alt Delete
Ctrl Alt Delete subverts the traditional career show. Instead, it's for people who are more interested in shaping their work rather than letting their work shape them. The main focus is work, wellbeing and creativity. Hosted by bestselling author Emma Gannon, she has a gentle line of questioning that starts with work, and ends up wherever the conversations lead. Named Best Business podcast by Vuelio, Webby award nominee and named 50 Best Podcasts by Sunday Times, Ctrl Alt Delete is a gateway into new ideas – with past guests varying far and wide including Elizabeth Gilbert, Reni Eddo-Lodge, Jacqueline Wilson, Lena Dunham, Julia Cameron, Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, Ava DuVernay, Gillian Anderson and Mrs Hinch. #386 Josh Roberts: Why We're So Bored At Work
My guest today is Josh Roberts, author of Anxious Man and Generation Drift (Why We’re Up Career Creek and How to Paddle Home). He is a mental health writer, speaker and consultant; and cohost of the Voicemale podcast with Jamie Laing. He started his career as a Strategy Consultant at Deloitte, before moving into advertising. Three years ago, he experienced a rather intense mental breakdown which culminated in being diagnosed with a Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Inspired by comments and stories he received, he resolved to quit his job and devote my time to trying to help others through writing, broadcasting and public speaking on the topic of mental health. I really enjoyed this new book on careers, mental health, comparison, success and why so many of us are ‘drifters’. Hope you enjoy this conversation and definitely recommend grabbing a copy of the book!LINKS:Join my Substack community and come and say hi! https://thehyphen.substack.com/Buy DISCONNECTED here: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/153/9781529373127Buy Anxious Man: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/153/9781529364927Buy Generation Drift: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/153/9781529377248My books: https://uk.bookshop.org/contributors/emma-gannonMy favourite 2022 reads: https://uk.bookshop.org/lists/best-reads-of-2022Social media:Twitter: Twitter.com/emmagannonInstagram: Instagram.com/emmagannonuk Hosted on Acast. #384 Clemmie Burton-Hill: The Power Of Classical Music
Clemmie Burton Hill on the podcast today. I became friends with Clemmie years ago now when she interviewed me at Hay festival about my book and ever since then we spoke about books, work, life and everything in between. Clemmie is a broadcaster, author, novelist, journalist, violinist and a lover of arts and music. On the morning of January the 20th 2020, only weeks before the pandemic turned the world upside dow, Clemmie suffered a catastrophic brain injury. One moment she was in a meeting in New York where she lives with her husband and two children. She is one of the most inspirational and magical people I know. Today we're discussing her brilliant book, Another Year of Wonder, a fantastic book making classical music more accessible to everyone with a song for every day. She's given me a song for every mood and every feeling that I can't really conjure up with words. I hope you enjoy this episode. My Substack page, come and say hi: https://thehyphen.substack.com/Clemmie’s book: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/153/9781472259370My books: https://uk.bookshop.org/contributors/emma-gannonBooks mentioned on Ctrl Alt Delete podcast: https://uk.bookshop.org/lists/books-mentioned-on-ctrl-alt-delete-podcastTwitter: Twitter.com/emmagannonInstagram: Instagram.com/emmagannonukCHOOSE LOVE: https://chooselove.org/Max Richter: https://www.maxrichtermusic.com/ Hosted on Acast. #383 Jamie Klingler: Reclaim These Streets (Part 2)
Trigger warnings for this episode, we discuss Sarah Everard, violence against women, rape and sexual assault in this episode. If you are not in the mood to listen to these topics, please protect yourself and perhaps give this one a miss.My guest today is Jamie Klingler, writer, activist, keynote speaker and campaigner for women’s safety as co-founder of Reclaim These Streets. This is part two of this full conversation with Jamie (part one available here). In this episode we are discussing her activist work, how Reclaim These Streets started, how to show up and make change and what we can do to help. The group began as a collective of women organising a vigil for Sarah Everard in March 2021, to raise awareness, make change and to stand up for all women who feel unsafe, have been lost to violence, who go missing from our streets and who face violence every day. They campaign, hold vigils, rally together volunteers and speak and act on women’s safety and even recently took on the Met police. They aim to use legislation, education and community action to ensure no woman has to be asked to 'text me when you get home' again. I will leave all the information in the shownotes below, and thanks again to Jamie for coming on the podcast to chat to me about her work. #382 Jamie Klingler: A Year of Intense Transformation (Part 1)
Hello and welcome back to Ctrl Alt Delete! (Just a heads up in this one we talk about weight loss, alcohol dependency, mental health and big life changes.) My guest today is Jamie Klingler, born and raised in Philadelphia and has lived in London for almost twenty years working in publishing and events. She is a writer and speaker/campaigner for women’s safety. In December she was named #9 in the UK Communicators of 2021 by PR Week for her work with Reclaim These Streets. In this part one of the episode we discuss Jamie’s life transformation over the lockdown period where she gave up drinking and overhauled her life. In her words in the Guardian, she "gave up booze, took up running and found the strength and stamina to fight for a better future”. In part two of this episode we discuss her brilliant work as co-founder of Reclaim These Streets, a group formed to remember Sarah Everard and campaigns for women’s safety. I am fascinated by Jamie’s story and how she speaks so openly about how a big lifestyle change enabled her to do more work in a space she is passionate about. A message from Emma
Come and have a look here >>> https://thehyphen.substack.comIntroduce yourself here >>> https://thehyphen.substack.com/p/shall-we-introduce-ourselves/commentsHello, listeners of Ctrl Alt Delete! First of all, thanks so much for being a regular listener of this podcast, I really enjoy making it for you! This podcast gets hundreds of thousands of downloads every month and I always wonder who you are, where you are listening from? What the episodes resonate the most with you? I know that this is a really warm and welcoming bunch of people who tune in every week and basically I’d love to hear from you and say hello! :)I now have the perfect place for us to chat in a two-way dialogue. Recently I have launched a community based newsletter on Substack called The Hyphen and it’s my place to write, share links, books, podcasts, all sorts of recommendations, and it’s already a wonderful community of like-minded people. It is a paying advertising-free community of $7 a month, the price of a couple of coffees, to access the community threads (every Tuesday we discuss a new topic which each other), Q&A columns from me where I write an answer on a specific reader question and tons more. There is a thread called ‘introduce yourself’ (see link above) where you can tell us a bit about you and what you do and what you like to do! I will also donate a portion of each month’s revenue to Choose Love, in particular at the moment I’ll be donating to the Ukraine Crisis Fundraiser. So come and say hi! I'd love to hear from you!E xo Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

#381 Fearne Cotton: Finding Meaning in a Messy World
Fearne Cotton is one of the best-known and most popular broadcasters in the UK and is most recently known as the founder of the wellbeing brand and podcast, Happy Place. This came off the back of her first book Happy in 2017 which was a Sunday Times Bestseller. This was the first in a series of books talking about her own positive, and some of the not so positive, experiences with happiness. Happy Place Podcast now has over 40 million downloads and had over 10,000 people attending two Happy Place Festivals in the UK. I really enjoy Fearne's laid back, warm and approachable vibe and I love her curiosity. In this episode, we discuss her new book Bigger Than Us, which brings insight and wisdom from lots of different teachers, from intuition and energy to manifesting, ritual, prayer and star signs. It covers so much and it is really intriguing, bringing some of the magical bits to us in a more accessible way. I went to Fearne's home studio to record this one and it was really fun, I hope you enjoy our conversation! My Substack! https://thehyphen.substack.com/Fearne's book 'Bigger Than Us': https://uk.bookshop.org/a/153/9780349415376My books: https://uk.bookshop.org/contributors/emma-gannonBooks Mentioned On Ctrl Alt Delete Podcast: https://uk.bookshop.org/lists/books-mentioned-on-ctrl-alt-delete-podcastTwitter: Twitter.com/emmagannonInstagram: Instagram.com/emmagannonuk Hosted on Acast. Hello and welcome back to Ctrl Alt Delete, my guest today is Jamie Varon: writer, designer, digital course creator, and creative consultant living in California. Today we are talking about her book Radically Content - Being Satifisied in an Endlessly Dissatisfied World. If you enjoy Jamie’s musings, vignettes and writing that she posts on her Instagram to thousands of people you’ll absolutely love having a physical copy of this book. Jamie and I crossed digital paths years ago in the blogging space and I thoroughly enjoyed this chat for the podcast as this topic of defining our own inner value system and ideas of success is something I’m writing about at the moment too with my next book. #378 Clover Stroud: Writing About Life & Death (Part 2)
Welcome to part 2 of this conversation with writer and journalist Clover Stroud, as we discuss her third memoir The Red Of My Blood: a brutal, bold and brilliant artistic piece of life writing about family, survival, death and grief. I really felt like I lived this book as opposed to reading it, as Clover really goes deep and invites the reader in to experience it all with her. Just a reminder to make sure you listen to part one first, as this is part two of the conversation!
