Unlocking Kingdom Growth in Everyday Life

Are you living a “Kingdom of God lifestyle” today, in a very real sense? Do you feel like growth, abundance, and victory are all a part of your community life and church experience? This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, Caesar and Heath discuss how Jesus explained normal life and growth in the Kingdom of God. In This Episode You’ll Learn: The true definition of a Missional Community. Caesar’s story of a pretty rocky start to all of this 😳 How Jesus explained life (all of it) and growth, and what to expect. The Pattern and Promise we see throughout the Parables in the NT. Get started here... From this episode: “There is a reason Jesus lived and taught in the ways he did. He wasn’t random or cleverly trying to adapt to the local customs of his day. Yes, his methods were rooted in real life, and they were immersed into his culture, but there was something far more eternal and subversive going on.” Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. The “Jesus Model” For Loving Your Neighbor

There was a time when neighbors knew each other’s names... when children and old folks in the neighborhood had more than their families looking out for them. What happened? This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we talk with author, Lance Ford, as we ask the question: can you really love your neighbor as much as you love yourself? We live in an age when it feels like we have very little time for new and trusting relationships–and it’s hard to trust people! So we tend to isolate or stick closer to home and keep to ourselves. But people are dying for real relationship, and isolation only breeds further distrust. Maybe it’s time to change the narrative. In This Episode You’ll Learn: What the Bible really says about loving your neighbor. What we have lost as a society through hiding away and loving ourselves. Why incarnational presence is the “Jesus Model” for loving your neighbor. Practical steps to restoring our neighborhoods to become communities filled with love and redemption. Get started here... From this episode: “People are dying for relationships and connection. We can choose to push back against the consumerism and individualism that is so toxic. Let’s not let our affluence buy the very walls that keep us apart from real gospel-centered relationships.” Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. How To Talk Politics As a Family

Political talk is everywhere right now — it’s on the news and all over social media, it’s happening between friends and family, and it’s most likely happening at your kitchen table too. I wonder... what are your kids hearing? In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, Caesar shares insights on how to talk politics as a family. You’ll get the tools and gospel perspective to discuss and make wise political choices throughout life. In This Episode You’ll Learn: Why talking about politics with your kids at an early age is important. How to teach them NOT to believe everything they hear. How to use gospel-fluency to frame the conversation around politics. 5 Tips for changing the conversation right now. Get started here… From this episode: "As parents, we want to transmit a value system to our children. For most of us, the idea of our kids switching from blue to red, or vice versa, is pretty scary and maybe unacceptable. I think what we want to do is seek to help our kids grow political literacy, equipping our children to make considered, rational choices from a place of integrity and the gospel, regardless of whether they adopt our specific political party and beliefs." How This Small Group Became a Community on Mission

What happens when you feel God leading you, beyond a weekly meeting with a handful of other Christians, out to make disciples in the most underserved neighborhood in your city? In this episode, Caesar is joined by author and community builder Terence Schilstra. You'll hear the exciting story of how his traditional church small group slowly morphed into a missional community. Along with several other Christian families, they've become connected to over 30 families in their new neighborhood as they make disciples. In This Episode You’ll Learn: How a "small voice" became a much louder calling from God. What personal challenges they faced to follow God deeper. The problems their small group experienced. (Not everyone loved the change!) The amazing adventure that this community now lives! Get started here… From this episode: “Our calling to make disciples among a specific group of people requires us to be present with them. Just like Jesus came to us as a human, and took on the rhythms and customs of the people he was with, so must we give our lives, not just our programs, to that God calls us to. Making disciples is an all-of-life engagement that ultimately radically reorients our time and resources for God’s glory.”   Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. Can You Be a Christian and Not Be a Disciple?

Church doctrines of grace and salvation can sometimes hinder us from fostering the expectation that we should be and make disciples. Do our current evangelism and discipleship models fall short of producing genuine followers of Jesus? This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we explore the importance of reclaiming a strong understanding of the gospel and the vital link between conversion and discipleship. Joining us is Bill Hull, a "discipleship evangelist" (a term I adore!) and author of several bestselling discipleship classics. In This Episode You’ll Learn: A historical definition of “conversion” that you’ll find clarifying. Why conversion and discipleship are two sides of the same coin. The problems the Church experiences having split (or ignored) these two functions. Why having a bigger view of the gospel is the solution to this problem. Get started here... From this episode: “You’ll never make a disciple from a non-discipleship gospel. A gospel that does not include disciples making disciples, and all true Christians are disciples of Jesus, is actually a very truncated gospel and not really the gospel Jesus proclaimed and preached.”   Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. Rediscovering the Bible’s Relevance Today

More and more people are questioning the validity and relevance of the Bible in today's culture. Is it all true... is it literal or figurative… does it apply to our lives today? In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we’ll walk you through the most common misunderstandings about the Bible and the ways people read this unique document that are leading to confusion and distrust. And we’ll give you the tools to properly read the Bible in light of the divine author’s original intent. In This Episode You’ll Learn: The Bible was originally an oral document. Why the Bible should not be viewed simply as a history book. How scripture was originally read together in community and why. Why understanding the genre of each book in the Bible changes everything. Get started here... Quote from this episode: “The Bible is best read and understood as a series of stories, narratives, that God has given to us humans to best understand who he is and what he is like. He proves this over and over as the Story that unfolds really does repeat itself from a zillion angles. All of this shows us what is true about us, our identity and how God sees us and how we get to live in this world and rightly interact with God and care for his creation, which includes other humans.”   Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. Are You Picking The Right Leaders?

Whether it’s in your church, non-profit, or missional community, growth requires you to develop your next generation of leaders. How will you know who they are? Is everyone really a leader? Could you be wasting your time developing the wrong people? In this episode, Caesar and Heath talk about how to effectively identify your best leaders. We'll show you what to look for and how to spot faithful, servant leaders that are right in your midst already. In This Episode You’ll Learn: A new paradigm for developing people in community. How discipleship and leadership development work together. 3 Questions to ask yourself to know who specifically to develop as leaders. 5 Qualities you want to look for in anyone you place in a position of leadership. Get started here… From this episode: "Competency is something that can be developed in any person who has character and capacity. In my experience, those with high capacity are continuous learners and develop new competencies all the time. I put competency at the end of the list because, to be honest, it is something of a “second-tier” concern. It matters, but not as much as the others." 5 Ways Church Leaders Need to Be Cared For

Leadership within the Church is much more than just getting tasks and jobs done. Biblical leadership does get things done and serve the Family, but effectiveness as a leader is more about character, the condition of the heart, and a growing ability to speak and model the Gospel in all of life. In this episode, Caesar gives you 5 ongoing essentials that every missional church leader needs in their life. Unfortunately, almost no one was trained for the type of leadership that missional communities require. Let's be the ones that change that! In This Episode You’ll Learn: Why the commitment to developing leaders attracts great leaders. What to do if YOU are not getting these 5 essentials as a leader. The importance of every leader having an apprentice. What happens if you're missing this type of care. Get started here… From this episode: "Treating people like “stop gaps” to our problems in an area of ministry only reinforces a DO=BE mentality and ultimately demoralizes people. Seeing and treating your leaders as divine Image-bearers and like members of your family puts you both in a humble position to receive the ongoing grace that our heavenly Father offers–regardless of our performance or less-than-perfect leadership record." A Community of Welcome In a City of Loneliness

There's an epidemic of loneliness and isolation in our cities today, whether they're big or small. More people are living alone and wondering where they'll find community and hope. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, Caesar is joined by disciple-maker and church planter, Gino Curcuruto. They discuss how the Church is in a perfect position to extend hospitality to people around us who are seeking guidance and care. In This Episode You’ll Learn: How even the government is alarmed at the amount of loneliness there is. Why the Church has been perfectly suited to combat this issue. How we are an extension of the welcome of God we have received. Ways we can "set the table" for others to find a family to belong to. From this episode: "We are those who have received the hospitality of God, the welcome of God. And we are the extension of the hospitality of God, the welcome of God to people. We're perfectly positioned in so many ways to simply be the church and meet a need that the culture around us is crying out, saying, "Hey, we don't know what to do about this epidemic of loneliness and isolation we feel."
