The film marks the directorial debut of Robert Redford and also stars a young Elizabeth McGovern and features a fantastic scene stealing turn from Judd Hirsch. The film was nominated for six Oscars and won for Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay for Alvin Sargent and Best Supporting Actor for Timothy Hutton. Based on MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors by Richard Hooker, the film depicts a unit of medical personnel stationed at a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) during the Korean War. It won the Palme d'Or, at the 1970 Cannes Film Festival and received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and won for Best Adapted Screenplay.
