Ancient-Future Medicine: Psilocybin Mushrooms and Psychedelic Therapy with Jahan Khamsehzadeh
Jahan Khamsehzadeh, Ph.D has spent two decades researching psychedelics in the context of both evolution and psychotherapy and says he “knows of no more powerful means of transforming consciousness than those that use the assistance of psychedelics.” In this in-depth and eye-opening discussion Jahan shares a pivotal psychedelic mystical experience. He presents key scientific research into the efficacy of psychedelic therapy for depression and other health issues, why modern Western culture has had such a legal and moral antagonism towards psychedelics and the emerging therapeutic landscape which integrates academia, science and traditional shamanism. He also gives context to microdosing with psilocybin mushrooms. ---Jahan's dissertation on psychedelics in the Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness program at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco was later published as the book The Psilocybin Connection: Psychedelics, the Transformation of Consciousness, and Evolution of the Planet - An Integral Approach (North Atlantic Books, 2022). He graduated from the University of Arizona with a major in Philosophy and minors in both Physics and Psychology then going on to earn a master’s in Consciousness and Transformative Studies from John F. Kennedy University. Additionally, Jahan has taken a comprehensive Hakomi somatic-psychotherapy training, assisted with the Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy Certificate training at CIIS for two years, mentored at the newly emerging School of Consciousness Medicine and trained in the Mazatec mushroom tradition. The Wisdom of Herbs for Healing & Wellness with Matthew Wood
Matthew Wood has been a practicing herbalist since 1982. He studied botany at the University of Minnesota, receiving his Master of Science degree from the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine. An international lecturer, he has authored ten books on herbal medicine, including The Book of Herbal Medicine (North Atlantic Books, 2017) and The Earthwise Herbal Repertory (North Atlantic Books, 2016). In this episode Matthew shares with us early insights regarding the natural world and his realization that "nature is alive". An expert herbalist, he walks us through how he works with clients from intake through diagnostic approach and herbal remedy. Matthew shares how as his practice has matured over the decades he has learned to simply “follow the energy”. We discuss the homeopathic principle of treating like with like and what the extracellular matrix is and its role in whole organism communication. He describes the role of constitution in holistic health and gives examples from Ayurveda’s dosha system, Native American animal likenesses, and the modern “body types” idea of endomorph, ectomorph and mesomorph. We examine the healing mechanism of adaptogenic mushrooms like Reishi and Chaga and how they fit into a herbalist framework. He also recommends certain sustainable tonic herbs that can have long term benefits and explains the concept of “the green power” of Viriditas, espoused by the middle-age mystic Saint Hildegard. Matthew discusses the growing challenges in people’s wellness in a complex era of experimentation, sharing his vision of our relationship with the planet and Mother Nature in which our hearts are aligned with the love of the Earth. Matthew has helped tens of thousands of clients over the years, many with difficult health problems, and has maintained a practice of traditional Western herbalism during a period when many others have turned to the exotic traditions of India or China. While Matthew believes in the virtue of other healing modalities, he has always been inspired to learn, preserve, and practice the tradition of herbal medicine descending to us from our European, Anglo-American, and Native American heritage. He is a registered member of the American Herbalists Guild and teaches online through the Matthew Wood Institute of Herbalism.www.matthewwoodinstituteofherbalism.comEnjoyed the episode? I'm Not Coming Back: Experiencing Enlightenment with Ananda Abinou
Ananda Abinou achieved his enlightenment in 1973. Since that time he has travelled extensively, giving freely to whomever sought his knowledge. In 2001 he released his teachings to the public in the book I'm Not Coming Back; Talks With Ananda Abinou (Epinoc Publishing). Ananda muses on all things consciousness related, from esoteric teachings to the nature of reality. He has been called a Black Buddha and the Sage of the West. In this meditative episode Ananda shares his awakening process, the act of letting go at a radical level, and how he didn’t come to awakening through any spiritual system. We discuss what enlightenment is in relation to what he calls "the moment", how psychological tension effects the body and the physical adjustments he experienced after his spiritual awakening. Ananda shares how reality is a “vibrational frequency”, and the importance of the power of choice, focus and responsibility. He highlights how we limit ourselves through our investment in beliefs and how an individual contributes to the collective. He discusses moving beyond duality and coming to wholeness, the singularity of consciousness and our responsibility to truthfulness. Finally, Ananda exemplifies the importance of laughter, joy and why it's important not to take things so seriously!Enjoyed the episode?
