1294 || a break from politics

Listen, we’ve gotten pretty political over the past month, and I wanted to defend my reasoning for the seasoning before I talk about why I wanna switch it up a bit. Unfortunately life is political. Not addressing the elephant in the room doesn't remove the elephant from the room.  And I wish more than anything we lived in a society where we didn’t have to talk about the ways the systems impact us and everything around us. That said, I never want to push anyone away from radical solidarity and community action. So, we're mixing it up over the next season of the podcast and we're gonna start infusing some neuroscience, psychology, art, friendship, and community themes back into the regular rotation so we can keep our momentum sustainably! "My medium spicy take is that it takes a lot of pressure off of you. You can celebrate any holiday any way you want because taking the holiday and changing it to fit to your needs is truly traditional. The important thing is we take days off work, gather together, and spit in the face of a harsh earth." - Alex Falcone."Amazon is everywhere but so are we." - Varsha Gandikota-NellutlaAlex Falcone: https://alexfalcone.ninja/Varsha Gandikota-Nellutla: https://www.instagram.com/varshagandikota/?locale=en_US%252525252Cen_US%252525252Cen_US%252525252Cen_US&hl=arAmazon Protest information: https://uniglobalunion.org/news/map24/A reason to boycott walmart: https://www.al.com/news/2024/11/birmingham-activists-call-for-walmart-black-friday-boycott-after-dei-rollback.htmlAnother reason to boycott black friday: https://www.essence.com/news/protesters-plan-boycott-black-friday/DONATE:www.pcrf.netGet Involved:Operation Olive Branch: Spreadsheets + LinksGET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. 1292 || contextualized history of thanksgiving

I tend to get a bit overwhelmed when thinking about Thanksgiving. When I feel overwhelmed by something, it's typically because I lack context. Here is some of the context I discovered on my journey to better understand Thanksgiving's true history, from the perspective of the Wampanoag people. 1291 || reframing violent rhetoric

Often these methods are effective at preventing or reducing backre. However, sometimes the perpetrators’ tactics fail, and backfire occurs. When it does, it is often because people relied on ve principles (which can be remembered as the “5 Rs” below) to heighten outrage and increase mobilization against injustice. These principles are:1. Reveal – Expose the injustice.2. Redeem – Validate the target.3. Reframe – Interpret the event as an injustice.4. Redirect – Mobilize support and avoid official channels.5. 1287 || hope guide to resisting political violence

"When threats achieve their intended results, they embolden those who use them. It’s clear that inciting PV has become politically or economically profitable for certain individuals and groups. Some perpetrators also find threat-making to be psychologically gratifying. For these reasons, the very small minority in the US who incite, threaten, and enact PV won’t stop on their own. We, the vast majority, must take action to stop them by imposing costs on their actions." - Hardy Merriman THE HOPE GUIDE PDF: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/666b71d25d155b3509763e61/t/6696c79b4483c7565da3e43c/1721157535696/HOPE+PV+End+Political+Violence+Guide+07-16-24+version.pdfDONATE:www.pcrf.netGet Involved:Operation Olive Branch: Spreadsheets + LinksGET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. 1286 || stay engaged

"We shouldn’t think of our struggle as a finite game, but an infinite game in which there will be many different opportunities to engage. We should be learning how to do better from our failures and our successes. Power may go back and forth over that period of time, over the years ahead of us, so don’t despair too much about whatever happens in the next couple months. Stay hopeful, stay engaged, and recognize that even if the pro-democracy movement loses some ground in this election year, we could also win." - Scot Nakagawa Read that here: https://wagingnonviolence.org/2024/08/anti-authoritarian-organizer-scot-nakagawa-participation-advantage-confronting-political-violence/Kristianna on tiktak said: “you’re using your imagination power to prepare for their best case scenario rather than thinking about how to use the chaos of this moment to make your best case scenario happen.Watch that here: https://www.tiktok.com/@mochaeinstein27/video/7437529671580814622)DONATE:www.pcrf.netGet Involved:Operation Olive Branch: Spreadsheets + LinksGET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. "People also need to avoid conspiracy theories — and they need to avoid scaring people and doing the job of authoritarians for them. Political violence is a key strategy of authoritarians because it scares people, right?
