Happy Hour #281: Nona Jones
My guest for The Happy Hour # 281 is Nona Jones. Nona is Founder and CEO of Nona Jones Ministries, CEO of eChurch Partners and serves as the Head of Global Faith-Based Partnerships at Facebook. She has been profiled by ESSENCE Magazine as an “Under 40 Woman to Watch," Florida Trend Magazine as one of Florida’s “30-Something All Stars," and has been recognized as an Outstanding Young Alumnus at the University of Florida. She and her husband, Tim live in Florida, and are the proud parents of Timothy, Jr. (9) and Isaac (6).
Friends, on today's show, Nona shares her story which includes childhood sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. Nona does not describe the abuse in detail. However, I want you to be aware of the topics we discuss in case those are triggers for you, so you can decide if you need to skip this episode. What Nona endured as a child and growing up is horrific, and Nona speaks about how the trauma from the broken relationships and abuse affected her in learning what being wanted and successful truly meant. In the midst of so much darkness, I got teary hearing how God showed up for Nona through the invitation of a friend in 6th grade, and when God sustained Nona through his word. As Nona puts it, her story is marked by abuse, but her life, her identity, and her purpose are all from the redemptive work of God.

Your Last Decade #3: Laura Tremaine
As we enter this new decade, I thought it would be fun to talk to a few friends and reflect back on what life was like 10 years ago. In these conversations, you’ll hear guests speak about what God has done in their life, dreams, goals, things they would have differently, and things they’re most proud of. And, looking back always causes me to look forward, so we’ll also chat about dreams for the next ten years!
On today's show, my friend Laura Tremaine joins me to talk about her last decade. Laura grew up in small town Oklahoma and moved to Los Angeles at 22, sight unseen! Laura is a writer, blogger, podcaster, and momma, and you guys, most of those things Laura dove into just as she entered this last decade. Laura shares with us how in 2010 she had recently left a career in film and television production. She was a new mom, and was struggling with feelings of being lost and lonely. Laura began her first blog, the Hollywood Housewife which opened doors to what would become her next career. I loved Laura's honesty when she talks about how it took the last decade to get where she is today - we "all want to skip the lame stuff", but we all have to take those first steps!

Happy Hour#280: Raechel Myers
My guest for The Happy Hour # 280 is Raechel Myers. Raechel is founder and CEO of She Reads Truth - an organization that, for more than 7 years, has been helping women (and men, and kids!) to be in the Word of God every day. Raechel lives outside of Nashville with her husband and two kids, and just loves the beauty, goodness, and truth of God and His world.
My friend Raechel is a woman who loves the Word of God, and we start off the show talking about the different barriers we may see to being in the word every day and even about starting or joining a Bible study! Raechel shares with us about one of her proudest accomplishments at He Reads Truth, and the difficult road she and co-founder Amanda Bible Williams walked this past year as Amanda's son Toby was critically ill throughout 2019. Raechel shares openly how she and Amanda navigated tragedy, friendship, business, and the need for rest by walking humbly in truth and love. In the last part of the show, Raechel reminds us how so important it is to listen for the truth in a world filled with so many sound bites and messages that are almost true. You guys, I told you that Raechel is a woman who loves God's word, and I hope you're inspired to try out a plan and dig into the word every day!

Your Last Decade #2: Colt McCoy
As we enter this new decade, I thought it would be fun to talk to a few friends and reflect back on what life was like 10 years ago. In these conversations, you’ll hear guests speak about what God has done in their life, dreams, goals, things they would have differently, and things they’re most proud of. And, looking back always causes me to look forward, so we’ll also chat about dreams for the next ten years!
Today my friend Colt McCoy is joining us to talk about his last decade. In 2010, he was a senior at The University of Texas and his team went undefeated and faced Alabama in the National Championship Game in Pasadena, CA at the Rose Bowl. During that game, Colt was injured in the first half and never returned. His team ended up losing the biggest game of his career so far. Colt got married to his wife Rachel, and was drafted by the NFL that same year. Over the past decade, Colt has played for 3 different NFL teams, and he and Rachel now have 3 children. We look back today on Colt’s last decade, and no matter if you are a football fan or not, you will enjoy hearing his perspective on how he has managed the mountain tops and valleys that come from playing football for a living.

Happy Hour #279: Natalie Green
My guest for The Happy Hour # 279 is Natalie Green. Natalie is a connector of people and lover of Jesus. She is the Director of Strategic Partnership & Development for Africa New Life. Rwanda is her second home as she has taken more than thirty trips to the land of a thousand hills, leading hundreds of donors and sponsors on visits to Rwanda alongside her Rwandan colleagues. On the show today, Natalie and I talk about Africa New Life: the incredible story of how it was founded, the work they're doing, and the trip to Rwanda I'm about to take with Natalie to see it all in person! I loved hearing Natalie speak about Rwanda and her heart and passion for the country and the people. Natalie shares about the need for funding to provide food for the children and how you can help (be sure to check out the links from the show!). I also got to talk with Natalie about her journey to motherhood. Natalie honestly shares about life as a single momma and each of the beautiful stories of how she became mom to her three boys.

Your Last Decade #1: Aaron Ivey
Welcome to the first episode of a special edition of The Happy Hour called Your Last Decade. As we enter this new decade, I thought it would be fun to talk to a few friends and reflect back on what life was like 10 years ago. In these conversations, you'll hear guests speak about what God has done in their life, dreams, goals, things they would have differently, and things they're most proud of. And, looking back always causes me to look forward, so we'll also chat about dreams for the next ten years!
For the first episode of this special series, I thought it only fitting that I bring back my man, Aaron Ivey. Aaron and I reflect back on what life was like for us in 2010, and how that year stands out as such an incredibly hard year as we brought home our children from Haiti. Aaron shares about the goals he set for this last decade and how those goals were accomplished. Aaron and I also share what we learned about hospitality in those years, and that it doesn't matter what kind or size of house you have, it's how you make people feel by welcoming them in. I also end up feeling all kinds of emotions as we talk about the next ten years which includes launching all of our children out on their own!

Happy Hour #278: Beth Moore
My guest for The Happy Hour # 278 is Beth Moore. Beth is an author, speaker, and dynamic teacher whose conferences take her across the globe. She has written numerous bestselling books and Bible studies, and she is also the founder and visionary of Living Proof Ministries based in Houston, TX.
Friends, I can not think of a better way to start off 2020 than by having my friend Beth Moore on the show! Beth talks about how she looks at the new year as an opportunity to look at life in a fresh way, and to spend time reflecting with God sharing hopes for the coming year. Beth and I then talk about how she so intentionally speaks into the next generation and her passion to prepare others. You'll get to hear more about Beth's upcoming book, Chasing Vines, and that we are meant to be fruitful including when the fruit may come through suffering. One of my favorite parts of our conversation was Beth's reminder that the absolute number one thing we can pray for someone is that they love Jesus - it changes everything! In the last part of the show, Beth shares her heart and passion behind the issues she has raised concerns about, and why she believes it's so important that we talk about what it means to be Christ-like and not simply Pro-Christian.
