HH #666 How to Grieve Well with Guest Host Toni Collier and Debra Fileta

Happy May 1st friends! We are beyond excited to be in the month of May because we have so many things to celebrate with you! Jamie will be returning to the show this week and we can’t wait to have her back! The Happy Hour is also turning TEN YEARS OLD next week! We can’t get over how God has allowed us to be in this space for ten years, and we are so thankful for all of the guests and listeners who have showed up in this space with us! We love sharing stories of hope, encouragement, and God’s love with you! On today’s show we have Guest Host, Toni Collier, and Debra Fileta walk us through how to grieve well. It’s so easy to bury, numb, or run from grief, but at the end of the day, in order for healing to take place, we must honor the space of loss and allow our community to support us in seasons of grief. Toni and Debra emphasize the need to heal and move forward, taking ownership of our role in relationships and finding closure. Walking through grief may feel burdensome, but it’s nothing like trying to walk through life unhealed! We believe God can bring healing and redemption in the midst of hardship, and you can trust his good plan for your life! Thanks for listening and sharing this episode with a friend!SHOW LINKS:-Connect with Toni Collier-Connect with Debra Fileta-Connect with Jamie-Subscribe to Jamie’s Newsletter-Join the Why Can’t I Get it Together Book Club

HH #665 10th Birthday Countdown: The Very First Convo with Susie Davis

Hey friends! Welcome back to another birthday countdown episode! We are so excited about turning 10 years old in just a few weeks! Every Friday we've been playing episodes from our very first season. If you haven't caught up, we highly suggest you go back and listen! It's crazy how topics we talked about over ten years ago can still have so much relevance and meaning today! On today's show we throw it back to the very first conversation with Susie Davis. Susie is an author, blogger, speaker and church founder. Susie is married to Will Davis Jr., the founding and senior pastor of Austin Christian Fellowship, and together they have three children. Aside from family and ministry, Susie is helplessly addicted to horseback riding and McDonald’s coffee. In addition, one of her all time favorites is cooking and enjoying family dinners. Jamie and Susie discuss how they both ended up in radio accidentally, and also how hard it is to follow your passions individually when you also feel as though you are supposed to be giving so much to your family. Susie shares about what started her down the road of being a fearful person and how that ruled her world for so many years. We know by the end of this episode you'll be encouraged to live unafraid and kick fear to the curb! Thanks for listening and sharing this episode with a friend! SHOW LINKS:-Unafraid: Trusting God in An Unsafe World-Loving Your Man Without Losing Your Mind-Parenting Your Teen and Loving It-Uncovered: Revealing the Secrets of a Sexy Marriage-The Time of Your Life: Finding God's Rest In Your Busy Schedule-Connect with Susie Davis-Connect with Jamie Ivey

HH #664 The Connection Between Humility and Peace with Guest Host Esau McCaulley and Joel Muddamalle

What comes to your mind when you hear the word, "humility"? Do you think doormat, walk over, self-deprecation, or strength, wisdom, boundaries, and peace? Humility can be a tough subject to tackle, but today we have the perfect duo to walk us through the connection between humility and peace: Guest Host, Esau McCaulley, and Dr. Joel Muddamalle. Esau is a long time friend of The Happy Hour and has provided us with incredible conversations around his books, Reading While Black and How Far to the Promised Land. Esau is an author and associate professor of New Testament at Wheaton College. His writing and speaking focus on New Testament theology, African American Biblical interpretation, and Christian public theology. His book Reading While Black: African American Biblical Interpretation as an Exercise in Hope won numerous awards, including Christianity Today’s book of the year. Esau is a contributing opinion writer for the New York Times. His writings have also appeared in places such as The Atlantic, Washington Post, and Christianity Today.Joel serves as the Director of Theology and Research for Proverbs 31 Ministries and Lysa TerKeurst, and is a part of the preaching team at Transformation Church with Pastor Derwin Gray. Joel earned a PhD in Theology under Drs. Patrick Schreiner (NT) and Michael Heiser (OT) with an emphasis on Paul's household language in Ephesians as it relates to the Old Testament. He loves studying and teaching the brilliant truths found in Scripture and unpacking how they relate to our everyday lives.Whether we've incorrectly defined humility or underestimated its relevance to our daily life, we believe humility is the missing piece for the security, strength and confidence we all want. It's time to stop trying so hard to avoid our limitations or overcompensate for them. God has better for us and it begins with bowing low in humility! Thanks for listening and sharing this episode with a friend! SHOW LINKS: -Connect with Esau -Connect with Joel -The Hidden Peace-Connect with Jamie
