Greg Laurie: A New Beginning

And there is a negative way that it can play out in our lives. But the Bible says, “For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life” (Galatians 6:8 NKJV). The Bible promises rewards — acknowledgment for our faithful service to the Lord. And Jesus said, “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work” (Revelation 22:12 NKJV). We must do His work. Are you working for the Lord? I’m not referring to working for your salvation, because salvation is a gift from God to you. Ephesians 2:8 tells us, “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God” (NKJV). Because of that, we should want to do something for the Lord, not working for salvation but working from salvation. A faith that works will produce works. A faith that doesn’t work won’t. The apostle Paul wrote, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58 NKJV). Jesus often made the statement, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” (Matthew 11:15 NKJV). In other words, “Pay attention to what is being said!” We all know what it’s like to tune things out when someone is saying something that we don’t want to hear. But when it comes to hearing and obeying God’s Word, Jesus is saying, “Tune it in.” The decisions we make and the lifestyle we choose now will impact us in the life to come. --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. In this Sunday morning episode, Pastor Greg Laurie offers an encouraging message from 1 Kings. With Elijah, we learn that everyone faces trials, but we can trust God to show us the way through them. Listen in for more! Notes God told Elijah to “hide himself.” This move was for Elijah's preservation and preparation. We learn things in deserts we do not learn anywhere else. Better to be in a valley or a desert with Jesus than anywhere else without Him. There has to be a cross before there can be a crown. God allows trials in our lives so we will grow up spiritually. God allows hardships to show us His power. Trials and testing produce a necessary quality in our lives. You can never be too small for God to use, only too big. An important lesson: “With God nothing is impossible.” We need to trust God in everything. God loves to take what we have and multiply it. God says the same to each of us, “Give Me your son, your daughter, your marriage. Growing up in a Christian home, Cooper always knew he needed Christ. But it took a dramatic turn in a drug-induced haze for him to realize he needed to recommit to Jesus Christ or he was finished. The son and grandson of preachers, Cooper knew who Jesus was and knew that Christianity was true, yet he wanted to walk his own path—a trail that led him to the heights of stardom, partying, and befriending some of the biggest names in show business. Then it all changed. His marriage was falling apart and Cooper was in the pits of alcohol and drug use when he decided to quit and get clean. He began going to church and said that it was the fear of God that brought him around, that he was terrified of Hell. Although fear brought him to the Lord, it was the love of Christ that grew him. The conversation also includes musings by Cooper and Laurie about the so-called “27 Club,” various legends of rock and roll, as well as a discussion about depression, suicide, drugs, alcohol abuse, and their power to destroy. Winston Churchill, during WWII, spoke at the school he once attended. Tradition records his entire speech as just 17 words: 'Young men, never give up. Never give up! Never give up!! Never, never, never-never-never-never!' Historians point out the words were slightly different, and the speech notably longer, but it’s still good advice.
