Ed Bisch's story is a tragic example of the devastating impact of the opioid crisis in the United States, which has claimed the lives of thousands of people. OxyContin, a prescription painkiller, has been a focal point in this crisis due to its potential for abuse and addiction. Ed Bisch's advocacy through RAPP (Relatives Against Purdue Pharma) reflects the anger and frustration of many individuals and families who have suffered due to opioid addiction and overdose deaths. Purdue Pharma, the company responsible for manufacturing OxyContin, faced significant legal challenges and lawsuits for its role in the opioid epidemic. In November 2021, Purdue Pharma filed for bankruptcy and reached a settlement agreement in which the company and the Sackler family, who owned Purdue Pharma, agreed to pay billions of dollars to address the opioid crisis.
