The Rollup

The modular ecosystem is still in its infancy stages. We are at the cusp of an acceleration of sovereign rollups built with Celestia underneath. This idea, while new to many, has been at the root of Celestia's roadmap since inception. In today's video we take you through everything you need to know about sovereign rollups, with a focus on Forma. We discuss how Forma has been carefully designed to leverage the unique properties of sovereign rollups, a key distinction that allows it to operate independently of traditional chains by settling directly to Celestia. We go into some of the technicals such as their custom pre-compiles and a specialized execution environment meant to handle detailed metadata and intricate interactions between NFTs. Their goal is to allow artists and onchain creators to build more nuanced and dynamic digital assets. We ask about their thoughts about using TIA as gas token and how they plan to align Forma with a broader community of over 600,000 active wallets. We were also joined by Achilleas from the Celestia team to discuss Modularium and the upcoming weekly mint cycle. Blockchains, as we know them today, are imperative. We believe in a future of verifiable computation. The modular future cannot exist without zk. After last weeks video asking "Will ZK eat the modular stack?" and realizing its all but guaranteed, we have set out to learn more about how zkVMs and ZK will make an impact. Our focus today centers on how RiscZero utilizes zk proofs and how zkVM works. At the core of RiscZero's mission is the democratization of ZK technology, making it accessible and simpler for everyone. This effort is crucial as it enables the verification of computations in significantly less time than it takes to perform them, fostering scalable cross-verification without redundancy. VCs have been getting a lot of hate recently. The era of high FDV, low float launches may be coming to an end soon...or will it? In today's conversation we sat down with Mads Mathiesen, a long-time crypto researcher and now leading research for an elite crypto VC Maven11. He was writing about data availability and Celestia in 2019-2020, before anyone was really paying attention to modularity. We talk about Maven 11's big bets on modularity and why VCs are under fire in the current regime. We also talk about the evolution of crypto funding models in from the 2017 ICO craze to the structured funding models of today, the landscape has evolved dramatically. We also explore potential shifts in VC strategies to better align with the unique timelines and risks inherent in crypto projects. The modular thesis is growing week by week. We are seeing the rise of new L2s and appchains happening at a rapidly accelerating pace now. Our second podcast as a team featuring Sam Kazemian from Frax Finance is here. Frax started its journey as a decentralized stablecoin and has expanded significantly to include a broader range of DeFi tools and assets, making their modular L2 more appealing from our POV. The backbone of Frax's operations is its modular L2, Fraxtal, which brings together protocols, liquidity, and monetary policies within one chain. Fraxtal enhances efficiency and transparency, setting a foundation for Frax to function akin to a decentralized central bank. Within this framework, Fraxtal uses an incentivization system known as Fraxtal points, which rewards popular contracts based on their usage and gas consumption. This creates a reputation-based system that promotes sustainable development within the Frax ecosystem. Additionally, we discussed how Sam plans to encourage the development of L3s atop of Fraxtal. LM 💤 🥱 Did you know that Celestia was originally called LazyLedger? The idea behind this laziness stems from Celestia's minimalistic properties. By solely focusing on data availability with minimal smart contracts & execution, Celestia is able to provide cheap and secure data verification while outsourcing execution to other chains. In today's episode, we set out to understand the origin story of not only Celestia, but also the now iconic Celestine Sloth Society NFT collection. The success and significance of the Celestine Sloths Society has came at a perfect time for the modular community. We were joined by Zaki Manian, and Steven (sk) from the Celestine Sloths team and Nick White from Celestia to discuss the impact and origin story of the Sloths. The Celestine Sloths Society was introduced with a fair launch exclusively for Celestia stakers, requiring one TIA token to mint each NFT, with a limit of one per wallet. They quickly soared in value and even surpassed Bad Kids in floor price, the biggest collection in Cosmos. We discussed this rise of popularlity as well as the choice of the sloth as a thematic symbol for the modular community which creatively reflects the concept of the 'lazy ledger'—a playful nod to Celestia. We went on to unveil potential future developments, like modular sloth bodies and the expansion of the sloth IP. Many of the community members are excited for the potential modular project token distributions to Sloths (like Lava, Mitosis, Initia, Movement and others), we also touched on whether there could be a Sloth token in the future.
