Tragedy Inspired Sebastian Terry To Find Happiness in A List of 100 Things.
Sebastian Terry was backpacking around the world when he received tragic news of a friends accidental death. Confucious said, "we have two lives & the second begins when you realise you only have one". That realisation forced Seb to consider his own mortality & it revealed that he was unhappy & unfulfilled. He was inspired to write a list of things that he thought would help him find true happiness. Along the way, his own journey of self discovery led him to helping others find real meaning in their own lives. '100 Things' was born & he now helps thousands around the world to build their own list & grant themselves permission to pursue their happiness. A very inspiring chat that resonated with me & I believe it will with you too. How To Break Up With Friends - Dr Hannah Korrel.
Dr Hannah Korrel is a neuropsychologist & the author of 'How To Break Up With Friends'. Whilst a PHD in Neuroscience & years of experience as a practicing doctor will help you understand neuroscience, it doesn't deem you exempt from the same friendship/relationship challenges you & I face. Have you ever found yourself giving so much of your time, love & attention to friends only to feel that same energy isn't reciprocated? Have you identified toxic traits in a friend & you aren't sure how to communicate that clearly with them? Or maybe you have identified personal insecurities & toxic traits that you wish to work on. We all have them, it is part of being human. Those questions right there are the reason Dr Han wrote & published her book, 'How To Break Up With Friends'. In this episode we discussed all these questions & more. As Hannah shared her personal experiences to help us understand what is at the core of these problems we all face. One of my favourite points from this conversation was surrounding the circle of thoughts, feelings & behaviours & how we can apply that in a practical manner. Stick around toward the end to catch that part of our conversation. If you loved todays episode follow Dr Hannah Korrel on instagram @nobullpsych for plenty of educational neuroscience content & grab a copy of her book via the amazon link below, at any good book store or listen on audible. https://www.amazon.com.au/Hannah-Korrel/e/B08M67J2YS/ref=dp_byline_cont_pop_ebooks_1 Don't forget to subscribe/follow & share around if you are enjoying the poddies. Battling Depression, Prostate Cancer & Bouncing Back w/ Mark 'Angry Dad' Orval.
Mark Orval is the star or as he remarks 'victim' of 'Angry Dad'. The social media videos took Australia by storm as his sons Mitchell & Dylan took the mickey out of their old man on film. Yet for all the laughs we've shared with the Orval family, there is a story that has deeper roots of more difficult times that Mark shared for the first time in his in his 2020 documentary 'F#!% Off Mitchell'. A story of broken dreams & a battle with depression, Mark shared his tale in a hope to encourage more men to speak up about mental health. Depression wasn't the last challenge Mark would face having received an urgent call from his doctor a few months ago, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer & just 12 weeks ago had it surgically removed. I had the pleasure of sharing a conversation with Mark as we discussed his journey, the lessons he's learnt along the way & his words of wisdom particularly focused at the notion of disappointment vs regret. A long journey ahead as Mark aims to find his health again but one I wish him & his growing family all the best with. Ellis Hall is the incredibly talented front man of Loretta. When the man walks into a room theres a few things I notice.
