Getting Off the Grid, Home Electrification, Hiring, and More w/ Ben Parvey (OhmGrid)

Hello everyone and welcome back to CleanTechies the Podcast. This is episode 59.________If you are a climate tech founder with specific questions you'd like us to ask -- OR -- looking for capital and strategic partner introductions, please reach out to me via the Slack Channel or LinkedIn and we are glad to help in any way we can.  ________Today we speak with Ben Parvey the CEO at OhmGrid. Where they are helping residential customers get off the grid, they do this through a model where they effectively just switch out some equipment, and then you pay around the same price as your electricity bill. The difference is, that you'll no longer be reliant on the grid and will have guaranteed electricity. What they are doing is really cool, I feel it has a strong appeal to many people given the power outage issues across our country. The Main talking points of today's discussion are:IntroGetting into Energy SpaceStarting in the RecessionGoing off the GridResale ValueFinancingSolar ResourcesRegulationsUtilities & Incentive ProgramsSelling Back to the GridGrid Dilemmas: a Hodge-PodgeFuture of the GridInstall and OperationsWhat New Builders ThinkMultifamily ApplicationsRegulatory Stifling Clean SlateCyber SecurityEducating the People en masse TalentWrap UpWe hope you enjoy today's episode - please reach out with any specific questions or discussion points. Overall the concept is simple but it's very exciting what they are doing and what can come next as they continue to develop their technology to be deployed on a larger scale. I especially appreciated hearing Jaeson's experience that led him from a blue-collar background to becoming a founder of a very complex deep-science technology company that is helping advance the ClimateTech solutions.Main Talking Points: IntroWhere did the seed of your idea come fromWhat is the circular economyHow their chemical engineer worksWhat they are doingWhere is it usedEducating people Changing the meaning of Green WashingNon-Technical business founderStarting outCustomersInstallation Economics / ROIOff-take agreementsPartnerships Existing JobsManaging their brand and its evolutionCarbon in soapWhere it goesRegulatory landscapeCarbon taxEducation Carbon EconomyLooking forward in your industryWrap upWe hope you enjoy today's episode - please reach out with any specific questions or discussion points. Solving Energy Demand Spikes of Increased Electrification w/ Rekha Sharma (Solv4X)

Hello everyone and welcome back to CleanTechies the Podcast. This is episode 56.Today's conversation is with Rekha Sharma the founder of Solv4x. Rekha spent a number of years working for CAISO which, for those unfamiliar is the grid operator in California. During her time there she dealt with the issue of energy demand irregularities the more renewable energy that came on the grid and the more electrification permeated the grid. That experience led her to seek a solution which is what she's doing with Solv4X. In this conversation she walks us through the evolution of how she got to where she is, the steps she took to get here, and how the first vertical she's focusing on is the EV Charging space. Generally speaking, this was a really great conversation and I personally enjoyed it a lot as she was able to help shed light on the decision-making process to leave a stable job to start this business. Generally, very inspiring. Main Talking Points: IntroThe shift to electrification Her early careerThe evolution of the gridWhat is Solve4XSeeing CAISOs issues firsthandGetting startedFinding the right partnersGetting capitalMany small tweaks How the incubators helpedPicking the right incubatorDivision of labor & specialties in the labor marketUser experience Internships and the importance of hands-on experience Giving back to the people Wrapping up We hope you enjoy today's episode - please reach out with any specific questions or discussion points. Helping Utilities Utilize Wasted Data with Sean Murphy of PingThings

Hello everyone and welcome back to CleanTechies the Podcast. This is episode 55.If you are a climate tech founder with specific questions you'd like us to ask -- OR -- looking for capital and strategic partner introductions, please reach out to me via the Slack Channel or LinkedIn and we are glad to help in any way we can.  Today our episode is with Sean Murphy the CEO of PingThings. Ping things is, in technical terms, the world's fastest nanosecond-precise time series analysis and AI platform. To translate that,  they are able to analyze vast amounts of data very quickly. The application they are focused on currently is for utilities and grid operators. Specifically, transmission lines have a lot of sensors that are not used because most utilities didn't have the ability to actually read and utilize the data collected. With their technology, they are now able to do this and it can have massive impacts on the grid and on climate change. As usual, we discussed a wide range of topics including, his inspiration to become an entrepreneur, how the tech works, future trends, a misalignment of incentives among utilities, and education.Really fun conversation today. Reducing the Cost of GreenHydrogen w/ Mariam Awara (Pulsenics)

Hello everyone and welcome back to CleanTechies the Podcast. This is episode 54. Today our episode is with Mariam Awara. Mariam is COO at Pulsenics Inc. Pulsenics is a Canada-based IoT device company that is helping enable electrochemistry at scale. A simpler way to put it is; they have a hardware and software solution that helps significantly reduce the operating costs of electrochemical industrial processes. Today our conversation largely revolved around how they are helping significantly reduce the costs of creating green hydrogen. We discussed the existing problem, how their tech works, and how they are solving it. To give you a precursor, in the event you're not a big fan of deep science, they have a device that helps monitor the internals of expensive machinery such as electrolyzes to identify when issues are starting so they can be fixed before a large breakdown. The same way preventative health helps avoid health crises. Please enjoy today's conversation! Main Talking Points: Intro to MariamHow she got into ClimateTechEvolution of the companyHow hard-tech is developed What they are doingWhere do they fit into clean-electrochemical projectsHow they are helpingIntegration with existing techThe ROI componentThe industries they support (outside of GH) Common objections and challengesNext bottlenecks to solveRegulatory landscape and concernsTalent landscapeWhat degrees to pursue for this fieldFundraising and it's evolution Keeping long-term visionThe futureClosingWe hope you enjoy today's episode - please reach out with any specific questions or discussion points.
