The Importance of Grit and Initiative
In today’s competitive job market, Jack emphasizes the qualities that hiring managers seek most—grit and initiative. He believes that many job seekers fall into the trap of waiting for opportunities to come to them, rather than taking proactive steps to reach out and showcase their value. This insight is especially relevant for those looking to break into tech sales, a field that offers significant potential for growth and success.
Jack encourages listeners to adopt a mindset of ownership. He shares practical strategies for networking, including the importance of personal connections and the value of mentorship. By building relationships within the industry, job seekers can fast-track their success and navigate career transitions with confidence.
Startups vs. Established Companies
Another key discussion point in this episode is the difference between working for startups and established companies. Jack outlines the pros and cons of each, highlighting that while startups may offer higher pay and faster career advancement, they come with increased risks. Conversely, established companies provide stability and structured career development but may have lower salary offerings.
For anyone contemplating a career move, this detailed analysis offers valuable insights into making informed decisions based on personal goals and risk tolerance.
Practical Tips for Daily Success
In the hustle of daily life, Jack shares how he maintains his relationship with God and prioritizes family. He discusses the challenges of balancing work and personal commitments, emphasizing the need for intentionality in nurturing one’s spiritual life. Jack’s practice of setting aside time for prayer and reflection serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of grounding our lives in faith.
Join the Community
Jack is also the founder of a thriving online community called “Break Into Tech Sales,” where aspiring professionals can access resources and support to launch their careers. This community is a testament to his commitment to giving back and helping others experience the life-changing opportunities that tech sales can offer.
Wrapping Up
This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in tech sales, personal development, or the intersection of faith and work. Jack’s story is not just about career success; it’s about finding purpose and fulfillment through faith.

Embracing a Wholehearted Life: Insights from Pastor Kevin
In a world filled with uncertainty and chaos, the quest for meaning and purpose can often seem like an uphill battle. In the latest episode of The Erik Allen Show, I had the privilege of sitting down with Pastor Kevin, a husband, father, and the lead pastor of The Cause Church in Massachusetts. He shared his incredible journey of faith, the challenges he faced, and the profound lessons he learned along the way. His upcoming devotional book, Wholehearted, set to release just before Easter, serves as a beacon of hope for those seeking to deepen their relationship with God.
The Foundation of a Faith Journey
Pastor Kevin’s journey began in Barnstable, Massachusetts, where his family was among the first Brazilian immigrants in the area. Growing up in a small community, he experienced a childhood filled with love and challenges. However, his path to faith wasn’t marked by a dramatic conversion story; instead, it was a gradual unfolding of understanding who Jesus really was.
Kevin described his early life in the church, where he played drums and sang in worship. He initially aspired to be a physicist until a pivotal moment in high school redirected his focus towards music and ministry. His journey took him to Kentucky, where he sought to establish himself within a community of faith. It was in this season of searching and striving that he encountered grace in a profound way.
The Moment of Surrender
Many people have a defining moment that leads them to surrender their lives to Jesus. For Pastor Kevin, this moment came when he realized that he had been relying on his works and achievements to feel accepted by God. It was a burnout season—a time when he felt overwhelmed by the demands of ministry. After a heartfelt conversation with his wife, he decided to seek a church that would allow him to be rooted and planted rather than merely searching for a job.
This journey of surrender led him to a church that opened his eyes to the concept of grace—the understanding that he didn’t have to earn God’s love. This revelation sparked a transformative journey, igniting his passion for ministry and a desire to share that same grace with others in his community.
Maintaining Balance in a Busy Life
As a pastor, husband, and father, Pastor Kevin wears many hats. The demands of ministry can often overshadow personal and family time. However, he shared valuable insights on how he maintains a healthy family life amidst these responsibilities.
Setting Boundaries for Freedom
One of the key strategies Pastor Kevin employs is the intentional creation of boundaries. He emphasizes the importance of protecting family time and ensuring that church responsibilities do not encroach on quality moments with loved ones. A recent experience taught him that boundaries are not just limitations but can also lead to newfound freedom. By delegating responsibilities and empowering others, he found that he could operate from a place of rest rather than burnout.
This perspective shift is reminiscent of a study conducted with children in a playground. When boundaries were established, children felt free to explore the entire playground. Similarly, by creating healthy boundaries in his life, Pastor Kevin discovered a new level of freedom, allowing him to serve his community more effectively while nurturing his family.
The Heart of Wholehearted
Pastor Kevin’s upcoming book, Wholehearted, is a culmination of his experiences and insights gained over the years. He hopes to reach both seasoned believers and those who are just beginning their faith journey.
A Practical Approach to Faith
The book is designed to be accessible and practical, providing readers with actionable steps to apply biblical principles to their lives. Pastor Kevin believes that everyone—regardless of their background or level of familiarity with Scripture—can benefit from the messages within Wholehearted. It’s about cultivating a life that reflects God’s love and grace, empowering readers to embrace their identities in Christ.
Lessons Learned Through Writing
As Pastor Kevin delved into the writing process, he found it to be a period of introspection and growth. He articulated that writing the devotional reinforced a recurring theme in his life: perseverance.
The Power of Tenacity
One verse that encapsulates his journey is Galatians 6:9, which urges believers not to grow weary in doing good, for in due time, they will reap a harvest if they do not give up. This message resonates deeply, especially in a culture that often values instant results over the slow, steady process of growth.
Pastor Kevin shared his own experiences with fitness and church leadership, highlighting how consistency and resilience lead to meaningful outcomes. Just as he learned to push through challenges in his fitness journey, he encourages others to remain steadfast in their faith, trusting that God is working behind the scenes.
Responding to Fear and Stress
In today’s fast-paced world, feelings of stress, worry, and fear are common, especially among men. Pastor Kevin

Fight For Fairness | Tim Semelroth | Ep. 302
Have you ever felt like life’s biggest challenges leave you at the mercy of systems designed to work against you? For Tim Semelroth, a trial attorney with RSH Legal, fighting for fairness isn’t just a slogan—it’s a life mission. In a career spanning over two decades, Tim has dedicated himself to standing up for people when they need it most. From his upbringing in Iowa to leading the state’s top personal injury law firm, his story proves that purpose and empathy make all the difference.

–
Humble Beginnings in Iowa
Tim’s roots trace back to “Hiawatha, Iowa,” where he grew up as the oldest of five kids in a working-class neighborhood. His dad worked in a factory, his mom was a school teacher, and his childhood mirrored the freedoms and simplicity of 1970s and 80s America. Like many kids of that era, he remembers being out all day with friends, only coming home when the streetlights turned on.
That upbringing laid the foundation for the sense of community and fairness Tim brings to his work today.
Finding Purpose in the Legal World
Faith played a guiding role in Tim’s journey. Raised in Catholic schools, he was taught to view life through a lens of integrity and care for others. But it wasn’t until he was deciding what kind of lawyer to become that his faith truly influenced his career path.
“Some lawyers work for corporations or the government doing necessary and honorable work, but I felt drawn to something different,” Tim said. He wanted to give a voice to people facing unimaginable challenges. This sense of purpose has fueled his career ever since.
The Story Behind RSH Legal
RSH Legal, Iowa’s #1 personal injury law firm, wasn’t always the big operation it is today. Tim was the first hire at the firm when its founders built it from the ground up. Starting with just three lawyers, RSH Legal has grown to 17 attorneys, three offices, and 40 staff members—but the mission remains unchanged: “Fighting for fairness.”
The firm represents people injured through no fault of their own, individuals with disabilities, and families who’ve lost loved ones due to others’ negligence. For Tim, each case is deeply personal. “We’re here to speak for those who can’t speak for themselves,” he shared.
Mock Trials That Changed the Game
Tim’s legal passion was sparked unexpectedly as a teenager. At 14, he participated in a mock trial program introduced at his school. What started as a teacher’s ploy to keep him out of trouble became the catalyst for his career.
This experience was so impactful that Tim has spent nearly three decades volunteering as a mock trial coach. From working with middle school students to mentoring high school teams and coaching his own kids, Tim believes mock trials bring the legal system to life for young minds.
In fact, four current lawyers at RSH Legal are former mock trial students of Tim. Talk about full circle!
Why “Fighting for Fairness” Is Everything
Tim’s approach to his work revolves around one idea: fairness. But achieving that often feels like an uphill battle, especially when insurance companies prioritize profits over people.
“Insurance companies are not designed to give you a fair shake. They exist to make profits for shareholders,” Tim explains. This is where his role becomes invaluable. As a guide, he helps clients understand what they’re entitled to and ensures their stories are heard.
For Tim, telling clients’ stories isn’t just his job—it’s his “secret weapon.” By deeply understanding his clients’ lives, he can present their stories authentically, whether to an insurance company, judge, or jury.
What Makes RSH Legal Different
RSH Legal’s team is dedicated to telling authentic stories that showcase clients as real people—not case numbers. They take time to visit clients’ homes, interview loved ones, and learn about the unique roles these individuals play in their families and communities.
Tim emphasizes that the line separating any of us from tragedy is far thinner than we like to admit. “Terrible things can happen to anyone,” he said. The team’s goal is to craft real, relatable stories that resonate with decision-makers, ensuring clients get the help they need.
Tackling the Fear of Lawyers
Tim has noticed a common thread when it comes to lawyers: fear. Many people hesitate to reach out, assuming the process will be overly formal, expensive, or intimidating.
“I always remind people—the initial consultation is free,” Tim says. His team works hard to break down barriers, creating a space where clients feel comfortable and heard.
He also makes it clear that his role isn’t to pressure clients but to lay out their options and let them decide what’s best.
Lessons from Life and Family
As a dedicated husband and father of three, Tim balances his professional success with lessons learned at home. Married to his high school sweetheart, Tim credits his wife for being a supportive partner who allows him to thrive in his career.
For his kids, now teens and young adults, Tim says the biggest lesson is letting them carve out their own paths. “Just because I enjoyed high school and college a certain way doesn’t mean their journey needs to look the same,” he says.
His time coaching them in mock trial, coupled with seeing them develop their unique interests, has solidified his belief in individuality.
What’s Next for Tim
Tim looks forward to the next phase of life as his kids grow older and he explores potential opportunities for teaching or working from anywhere with an internet connection. But in the short term, he’s excited for the holidays—having his college-aged kids home under one roof makes this time of year truly special.
Conclusion
Tim Semelroth’s story reminds us that fairness, empathy, and purpose aren’t just talking points. They can guide us through life’s challenges and inspire us to be better for the people around us. Whether he’s advocating for clients, mentoring young minds, or spending time with family, Tim lives by the values he promotes.
Stay inspired, stay connected, and keep fighting for fairness in your own life.
